Woman kills herself holding her wee for a wii
A local radio station in my area was holding a contest with a Wii as the prize. All you had to do was drink as much water as you can without going to the bathroom. Then this lady dies from water intoxication. Good one!

The radio station should have known the effects of holding so much water in your body. I feel sorry for the woman's kids =/ There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
It seems irrelevant... But did she even win the Wii?
And will the liability waiver mean her family won't be able to get compensation? That sucks, especially for her three kids ![]() How ya doing, buddy? |
When I first saw the title of this thread, I immediately pictured an overzealous Wii fan killing herself in anticipation of getting a Wii. How silly of me. It's a pretty unfortunate way for a person to die, however I can't place to much judgment, 'cause according to the video in that youtube link posted, no link has been made, that "link" being whether or not the water-drinking contest had anything to do with the death (but it's hard to think it isn't to blame).
An extraordinarily idiotic contest made by an idiotic radio station. How could they have not been aware of the dire consequences which can ensue from drinking superfluous amounts of water without using a toilet? A strange death for poor Jennifer Strange. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
The fact that these people (both the radio station people and the contestants) didn't even know how dangerous this was is just baffling. I mean, can they really be that stupid as to have never heard of water intoxication? I wouldn't really blame the station though, since it's not like she was forced to compete or anything.
And really, if she was feeling that much pain immediately afterwards, she was most likely feeling pain during the contest, so she should have quit sooner. I really see it more as being her fault than the station's, though they're not toally guilt-free either. Spoiler:

This is truly unfortunate. This is just a prime example of how crazy people are to do something for a brand new video game system especially if it has the potential of being free. This woman was probably not aware of the dangers of holding in a lot of liquid within your system, and it was probably the station's responsibility to let them know of all possible concerns.
I do agree that their probably should of been a physician to let people know the dangers of holding a vast amount of fluid within your body without going to the bathroom. Despite signing the liability clause this is not going to be the last we hear from this story, and there is going to be some kind of potential lawsuit. I do pity the kids actually because their mom tried to get them something they wanted to enjoy but she had to pay the ultimate price. I don't care how much I want a piece of new age technology, I am not going to put myself through hell to get it. I would like to have a wii as well, but I have patience I'll wait for them to be a little easier to get in stock. I just think we have to stop putting ourselves through mental and physical abuse just to get a hard to get piece of technology. Its kind of unfortunate how different mediums of commercial society love to exploit our needs and wants to get the latest piece of technology on the market. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Wow, sounds like NEStendo really needs to hurry up with the localization of their Common Sense Training game! Whatever happened to just getting people to jump around on stage like a retard with your pants falling down in front of a heap of people to win video game shit? That's how I got Metroid Fusion. :]

I've heard of people dying from this condition before. Usually extacy users who drank way too much because the drug made them feel hot, so they drank too much to compensate.
I never heard of anyone dying like this for some competition though. The poor woman was only trying to do what she thought was best for her kids too. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |

This is hard to comment on.
On the one hand, you can see that the woman was doing it for her kids selflessly, but on the other hand, she really should have stopped when feeling pain. It's rather unfortunate either way. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
um Hydrogen dioxide is H02 dihydrogen oxide would be H20
Assuming you meant water by that Jack. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() ![]() SIG POLICE SAY: Technically only two images allowed in a sig at once, unless special clemency is granted. So seek out special clemency if you try it again. kthxbye. PS what you've got is still pretty annoying |
I'm depressed for the kids. I assume the radio station gave them the Wii, but to lose your mother like that has to be depressing.
Like, how could the radio station NOT understand that excessive amounts of anything in the body is bad for you. And they might not have even had a physician on hand (I would think a physician wouldn't have even allowed the contest to take place) is just stupid. I was speaking idiomatically. |
I'm wondering the same thing as Franposis... did she win the Wii? I mean, yes, her death is sad and silly, but if she lost, then how much water did the person who won the Wii actually drink? And how is it affecting his/her health? Hope people have been checking on the other contestants, at least...

It doesn't surprise me that something like this could happen - water poisoning isn't all that well known despite the few high-profile deaths (as in they hit the news, at least) that have been caused by it. And I don't think you'd feel the effects hit until some time after you've taken in a life-threatening amount. Saying that she should have stopped when she felt pain is kinda pointless, because she wouldn't have felt the signs of water intoxication until it was really dangerous. Any other pain would have been purely bladder pain, I think.
I hope there's some sort of compensation for the family despite the waiver. FELIPE NO |
As a water-lover, I think I'm going to the bathroom after seeing this.
That's really unfortunate. :/ What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() (Old sig back in 2001ish) ![]() |
I feel obligated to clarify the confusion. This woman didn't die because she was "holding" her pee. She died of poisoning caused by the water. Let me put this another way. She would still very likely have died even if she had "relieved" herself. Water in large quantities is bad for you regardless if you pee or not. Be careful of how much water you consume is my advice.

That's a fucked up way to die. I feel sorry for the kids she left behind.

What a tragedy, owned like hell.

When i saw this, i thought you was joking. I'd have just bought one insted of doing that.

You'd think the danger of water poisoning would be more well-known, considering that we take in that substance every day.

That is horrible. I feel really sorry for the kids too. I hope they get some something from the radio station despite the wavier. The people who actually thought of the stupid game should get fired because of their stupidity.
But I want to know too, did she win the Wii? How ya doing, buddy? |
The tree of life is ever self-pruning.
The lady works in the medical field. She should have known of the dangers of electrolyte imbalance. Better her than someone she's responsible for. Goodby and good riddance. I hope your children inherited their intelligence from their father. That said, I also hope all those involved in the planning of the contest get fired. They should also have known about the dangers of "water poisoning" (electrolyte imbalance brought on by drinking too much water). Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]()
