Sony E3 Conference EVERYONE CRIES

So Sony has a big ol conference tomorrow. Something about CASUALS and guitars and Final Fantasy 7 and noone was all that impressed.

Let's talk about it!

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Jul 14, 2008 04:08 PM

Is E3 still in America? If so, I wouldn't expect much from Sony. I think even they've admitted that PS3 is strictly for Europeans and Japs. Apparently it's only the UK and US where the 360 is still outselling the triple now.

FatsDomino Jul 14, 2008 04:15 PM

E3 is held in outer space. That's what my friend told me.

Shenlon Jul 14, 2008 04:21 PM

I once heard that shanting its theme near a rainbow will reveal the bald sony guy and lead you to e3 but you need the golden ticket beforehand or you'll be taken to the world of ruined games.
E3 is a myth.

value tart Jul 14, 2008 04:41 PM

Who is this bald sony guy you speak of?

Infernal Monkey Jul 14, 2008 06:53 PM

I hope they reveal Lemmings 2. It was on release lists for a while then vanished. You can't just remake Lemmings 1, put it on all three Sorny systems and leave it at that. You need Lemmings 2!

AND A LEMMINGS 3 >=|

Elmoogle Jul 14, 2008 09:16 PM

Sony will announce that HOME closed beta signups are reopening in 2011. Also, Little Big Planet will go multi-platform, but Duke Nukem Forever will be an exclusive. More companies will rush to announce their intentions to not support trophies. God of War III will be slated for a Q4 of 09 release date, but will be scaled back to a T rating in order to appeal to a wider audience.

Gigantic new update will add unprecedented new copy protection for blu ray discs including regional lockout and inability to play a movie or game if it has ever been played on another PS3 console. Final Fantasy VII remake will be announced for FoCoMa mobile phones. New 10gb model will be announced with a $379 price point, slated to replace both current models on the market. It will be bundled with a copy of Alone in the Dark and will feature an all new technology called 'negative backwards compatibility' in which it will actually crush and incinerate any Playstation 2 game inserted into the disc drive.

Every new PS3 will now ship with $1.50 in Playstation Network Points and complimentary anal lube. I called it first.

Hay guys Sony's conference is like an hour or so away right? It's 3:30 AM here, I guess I might as well be a He-Man and keep going.

FatsDomino Jul 15, 2008 12:31 PM

Infernal, I'll love you forever if you do. I'll love you forever if you don't. I'll love you forever. :)

Kilroy Jul 15, 2008 12:32 PM

Incredible. Sony has a chance of stealing the entire show... just by showing some real games. Even REAL TIME WEAPONS CHANGE and Giant Enemy Crab would be win at this point...

Oh my! Maybe I can stay up and sleep at the same time, this chair has sturdy arm rests!

El Ray Fernando Jul 15, 2008 12:39 PM

Even if Sony announce a new Oral Sex peripheral for the PS3 it still won't top that megaton that dropped in regards to FFXIII.

I suspect as always the Sony presentation to be a bunch of smoke and mirrors they'll say as little as they can and then make a hoohah out of it. RIIIIIDGE RACCCCERRRRRR!!!!!

I dare sense a FF7 remake out of sheer desperation.

Andrew Evenstar Jul 15, 2008 01:20 PM

Only thing left for Sony is the FFVII remake lol

El Ray Fernando Jul 15, 2008 01:44 PM

I love how he has to start explaining the life cycles of the PSone and PS2 to somehow justify the crappy start the PS3 has had. We heard the PS3 visionary talk 2 years ago.

Oh and talking about Blu-ray again we heard this all 2 years ago.

BREAKING NEWS: PLAYSTATION HOME GOING MULTI-PLATFORM

Wow just wow.

El Ray Fernando Jul 15, 2008 01:47 PM

I think I'm about to go to sleep.......................

I like how he mentions PS3 had huge releases and mentions 2.5 games.

@Mush if that quote has any trickle of truth (I doubt it) thats some major lol. I wouldn't be surprised if it did come out for another system before Sony releases it. But again I just don't see Sony letting that happen.

Scarletdeath Jul 15, 2008 01:52 PM

WTF IS THAT THE CLOVERFIELD MONSTER IN RESISTANCE.

Aardark Jul 15, 2008 02:03 PM

A next-gen powerpoint presentation. This is living.

El Ray Fernando Jul 15, 2008 02:07 PM

Is it me or are they being forced to hype the PS2 again as in his words 'an entry level' to gaming so as to compete it with the Wii at the lower price range.

I like how he spurges that gaming used to be about isolation and that the PSnetwork has brought people together. After the failed PS2 online play it was only because of Xbox LIVE that they even gave a shit about people who wanted to play online.

Nintendonomicon Jul 15, 2008 02:08 PM

What is this William Shatnet lookalike talking about? While the Little Big Planet presentation was briliant, they jump to PS2 after showcasing only 2 PS3 games?

El Ray Fernando Jul 15, 2008 02:15 PM

'Fat Princess'?? You have to be kidding.

Scarletdeath Jul 15, 2008 02:19 PM

Definitely getting Rachet and Clank. And it's kinda sad that a flower game looks more interesting than the others so far.

El Ray Fernando Jul 15, 2008 02:50 PM

Time to get the developer suits to big up the PS3 dev kit. Its more like a plea to get dev's not to stray to the 360/wii.

GOW 3 onw of the biggest titles Sony has to offer barely gets 45 seconds.

Inhert Jul 15, 2008 02:55 PM

so I'm guessing that this new 80gb core pack for 399$ is like the 40gb and doesn' have the ps2 backward compatibility?

Dark Nation Jul 15, 2008 03:00 PM

So far, the only thing I've seen that was at all interesting was Valkyria Chronicles for the PSP.

Well, God of War 3 is nice to be confirmed, but that was practically a given anyway, and I don't count Multi-console titles (Mirror's Edge)
right now for this.

MAG looks neat in concept but only that, in concept.

Shenlon Jul 15, 2008 03:02 PM

No the new 80gb is exactly the same as the 40, just the same price but more storage space.
Oh and i was exited to finally see GOW3 but it was just a damn teaser. I guess it's somewhat too soon expect some gameplay

El Ray Fernando Jul 15, 2008 03:07 PM

OMG was that it??????

Besides Valkyria Chronicles; that was useless.

This seems to be the running theme for all three this year.

Shenlon Jul 15, 2008 03:15 PM

it was all mostly the same things as the years before. Show off little big planet. Try to get people excited over Home. Now they want to sell shows and movies tonight.

Kostaki Jul 15, 2008 03:17 PM

You won't ever hear of backwards compatibility returning because Sony would rather have you purchase and download titles from PSN rather than play what you already have. Such an announcement would have helped them and potentially pushed me into buying a PS3, but alas.

I was expecting something huge from Sony to counter Microsoft's "We got FFXIII too, but only for the lulz" announcement, but the most we got was God of War III and a crying plea to try their dev kit just one more time. Valkyria Chronicles looks hot though, something nice to look forward to for PS3 owners on top of the Eternal Sonata announcement. Everything else just seemed average.

Kilroy Jul 15, 2008 03:18 PM

Hi guys! You are all forgetting Ratchet & Clank. I thought that bit looked great. And the giant Shadow of the Collossus-thing from Resistance 2 was cool too.

Better than Nintendo, for what that's worth...

Scarletdeath Jul 15, 2008 03:19 PM

Infamous looks like Force Unleashed + GTA. Honestly, what happened to all the RPGs on the PS. Quite unbelievable to say that I'm getting a 360 for RPGs now.

Oh wait. I thought that Sony said they're going to focus on having ONE SKU which will be the 80GB with everything for $399 (I want to play my PS2 game at [upscaled] 1080p :(). If that the case, then I'll probably (still) go for the $499 version.

FatsDomino Jul 15, 2008 03:37 PM

I missed the end of the conference around where developers started saying oh hay we love using this system and shit. Did anything besides God of War 3 happen?

The conference was okay but kind of a bit long for what was shown. Why did they even show PS2? Waste. Of. Time. Little Big Planet presentation was pretty awesome though.

at the end they just tried to show off a new mmo call MAG - Massive Action. . . .Gagger?
It was just a cinema as sony trailers always try to hype up their games with. So overall the little big planet was the most interesting part.
So you missed nothing at the end.

eprox1 Jul 15, 2008 04:46 PM

Well, I think MAG has potential, anyways. Sounds like it's going to be SOCOM with....230 additional players. Does anybody know what type of game this is? 1st/3rd/7th person view?

All I really heard was 'tactical shooter' :/.

Shenlon Jul 15, 2008 05:28 PM

well all they really said was that it was a shooter mmo. My guess is that maybe they'll make it 3rd person but with rpg elements in which your be able to make your character customizable in every way such as speed, strengths in weapons etc. If thats not the case then they better deliver with something especially with what the guy said before the presentation. "Only capable on the ps3' ~_~

Oh and Fat Princess, I started laughing once I saw that. When they thought of the game did they just think that it would be a funny fun game or just a game they pulled out of their ass.
They should have Brought back Team Buddies, that would have been fun.

No. Hard Pass. Jul 15, 2008 07:59 PM

Hey Sony. Where's my White Knight, fuckers? WHERE IT AT?

Also, Skills, why do video games hate us now? Why can't anything be cool like it was on the SNES and the PSX? Did games stop loving us? Is that why they left? Is it because we did something... wrong?

FatsDomino Jul 15, 2008 09:12 PM

I'm sorry guys. I diddled my Super Nintendo. It's all my fault. :(

IT'S TO SAVE MONEY FOR YOU, DEAR CONSUMER.

speculative Jul 15, 2008 11:33 PM

Why hasn't the PSP goodness been mentioned in this thread yet? Also, though it's supposedly cross-platform I'll post this here since it applies to the PSP and there doesn't seem to be much else going on: E3 2008: Apogee returns - News at GameSpot

PSP on the official E3 site: PSP Games at E3 | E3.net However, I heard several places that the Sony presentation mentioned a Resistance title on PSP, as well as Patapon 2, Loco Rocco 2, Gran Turismo (not my style-especially can't see running endurance races on a handheld!!), etc. The PSP is #1 in Japan now. With a lack of good times comin' our way from the big boxes, it seems like '09 is the year for the little boxes to rock.

Also, BG&E 2? How can this be bad? http://www.e3.net/games/?game_id=84

Rockgamer Jul 16, 2008 12:27 AM

I have to admit, I never got what the big deal was with LBP before, but after that presentation I'm moderately excited for it. Still not something I must get right away, but something I could see getting a little bit down the line.

And the only thing I was really excited for at the press conference was R&CF: Quest for Booty. I'm a big R&C fan, so seeing what looks to be a somewhat fully featured game that's actually developed by Insomniac and coming out for only $15 is fucking awesome.

Oh shit, the new 80GB won't have backwards compatibility?

I called it.

I motherfucking called it.

They shot themselves in the foot AGAIN.

They've now officially mastered the art of delivering messages in the form of "Here's some good news... followed by bad news that's worse than the good news. Here, you get more hard drive! But you lose the backwards compatibility for no particular reason. Enjoy!"

Miles Jul 16, 2008 12:55 AM

Damn. What a shame. I've compared playing ps2 titles on my ps2 and my ps3 upscaled to 1080p with smoothing on. The PS3 makes PS2/PS1 games much more tolerable on my 46" widescreen 1080p Sharp Aquos. The backwards compatibility is very good. And the fact that you can save all your games to the ps3 drive makes it even better than having 10 thousand memory cards.

They perfected it and then they killed it. I say buy the good 80GB model while you still can.

Tagonist Jul 16, 2008 02:18 AM

Sony's conference was the disappointment I expected it to be. Weak Sony. Really weak.
No surprises. Lots of gadgety stuff like downloadable movies. VERY few interesting games.
And those can not possibly hold so much as a candle to the GARGANTUAN HYPE MACHINE of MS, cannot possibly make people BUY a PS3 for, or care for them more than for the hype MONSTERS Halo and Gears (think of them what you want, it's really the HYPE that counts...).
The PSP stuff was nice and all, LBP sure will be great, Resistance 2 also, God of War III as well, but those still aren't the iconic killer apps. And where the fuck was Killzone? Where was Team ICO?
Sorry Sony. If THIS is what you have in store for the "year of the PS3", I really don't want to know what happens when it's over.

Fuck.

I was planning on waiting for a while before picking up a PS3, but it looks like I'm going to have to grab it off of eBay now if I want it later (for a ridiculous markup, no doubt) as I have no plans for picking it up in the near future. Having me download off of PSN might sound convenient, but then I'd have to pay for the game I already own a physical copy of. That and the biggest reason that I know damn well Atlus/NIS games won't ever see life on PSN.

Bullshit.

Also, is there anyway to differentiate between the old 80GB version and the new 80GB version physically, without popping in a PS2 game to find out? Because searching for this thing on eBay will be a bitch.

SuperSonic Jul 16, 2008 08:58 AM

If they have pictures on ebay (I know, it's a long shot), look to see if the picture of the system has 2 or 4 USB ports. If it is going to have the "same features as the 40gb", the 40gb has 2 usb ports and no flash card readers. The old 80 gb is supposed to have 4 usb ports and a flash card reader.

However, this is just mere speculation as I'm going by that statement "same features as the 40 gb" so that's all I can do to help.

Zuare Jul 16, 2008 10:50 AM

According to pspfanboy, the Valkyria Chronicles footage on PSP was a mistake, and the game in not being released for PSP after all...

Shenlon Jul 16, 2008 10:56 AM

that figures, some of the video editing during the conference did look a bit hashed up. Although it doesn't seem impossible for the psp to support that kind of game especially after seeing the resistance game.

EDIT: Video store is up with a bunch of great movies which I'm still not willing to pay for but its good to see that we have the choice to now rent from here for those of you who still go to blockbuster or hollywood videos.
I would have thought that at least somethings as short as a ATHF video would be free but at the moment it seems like sony is out to make money not lose it.....even more than they have.

EDIT AGAIN: Woah wait a minute, there are going to be exclusive PSN videos for download.

BONEN NO XAMDOU
YouTube Video
Visually it looks awesome only time will tell if the show will be good but if there are more psn exclusives like this then the video section might not be a waste of time after all.

Inhert Jul 17, 2008 10:32 PM

I have a question about a video that was playing at the start of the conference.

they just put it in the playstation store (called: playstation family sizzle)

anyone know the song that play during it?
