I have to admit, I never got what the big deal was with LBP before, but after that presentation I'm moderately excited for it. Still not something I must get right away, but something I could see getting a little bit down the line.

And the only thing I was really excited for at the press conference was R&CF: Quest for Booty. I'm a big R&C fan, so seeing what looks to be a somewhat fully featured game that's actually developed by Insomniac and coming out for only $15 is fucking awesome.

Oh shit, the new 80GB won't have backwards compatibility?

I called it.

I motherfucking called it.

They shot themselves in the foot AGAIN.

They've now officially mastered the art of delivering messages in the form of "Here's some good news... followed by bad news that's worse than the good news. Here, you get more hard drive! But you lose the backwards compatibility for no particular reason. Enjoy!"

Damn. What a shame. I've compared playing ps2 titles on my ps2 and my ps3 upscaled to 1080p with smoothing on. The PS3 makes PS2/PS1 games much more tolerable on my 46" widescreen 1080p Sharp Aquos. The backwards compatibility is very good. And the fact that you can save all your games to the ps3 drive makes it even better than having 10 thousand memory cards.

They perfected it and then they killed it. I say buy the good 80GB model while you still can.

uhh what you don't know Little Big Planet??

This game is going to be better than MGS4 and GTAIV combined. Well, maybe not, but it's still going to be good.

Or don't buy a PS3 at all because it's a costly failure.

Sony's conference was the disappointment I expected it to be. Weak Sony. Really weak.
No surprises. Lots of gadgety stuff like downloadable movies. VERY few interesting games.
And those can not possibly hold so much as a candle to the GARGANTUAN HYPE MACHINE of MS, cannot possibly make people BUY a PS3 for, or care for them more than for the hype MONSTERS Halo and Gears (think of them what you want, it's really the HYPE that counts...).
The PSP stuff was nice and all, LBP sure will be great, Resistance 2 also, God of War III as well, but those still aren't the iconic killer apps. And where the fuck was Killzone? Where was Team ICO?
Sorry Sony. If THIS is what you have in store for the "year of the PS3", I really don't want to know what happens when it's over.

Fuck.

I was planning on waiting for a while before picking up a PS3, but it looks like I'm going to have to grab it off of eBay now if I want it later (for a ridiculous markup, no doubt) as I have no plans for picking it up in the near future. Having me download off of PSN might sound convenient, but then I'd have to pay for the game I already own a physical copy of. That and the biggest reason that I know damn well Atlus/NIS games won't ever see life on PSN.

Bullshit.

Also, is there anyway to differentiate between the old 80GB version and the new 80GB version physically, without popping in a PS2 game to find out? Because searching for this thing on eBay will be a bitch.

SuperSonic Jul 16, 2008 08:58 AM

If they have pictures on ebay (I know, it's a long shot), look to see if the picture of the system has 2 or 4 USB ports. If it is going to have the "same features as the 40gb", the 40gb has 2 usb ports and no flash card readers. The old 80 gb is supposed to have 4 usb ports and a flash card reader.

However, this is just mere speculation as I'm going by that statement "same features as the 40 gb" so that's all I can do to help.

According to pspfanboy, the Valkyria Chronicles footage on PSP was a mistake, and the game in not being released for PSP after all...

Shenlon Jul 16, 2008 10:56 AM

that figures, some of the video editing during the conference did look a bit hashed up. Although it doesn't seem impossible for the psp to support that kind of game especially after seeing the resistance game.

EDIT: Video store is up with a bunch of great movies which I'm still not willing to pay for but its good to see that we have the choice to now rent from here for those of you who still go to blockbuster or hollywood videos.
I would have thought that at least somethings as short as a ATHF video would be free but at the moment it seems like sony is out to make money not lose it.....even more than they have.

EDIT AGAIN: Woah wait a minute, there are going to be exclusive PSN videos for download.

BONEN NO XAMDOU
YouTube Video
Visually it looks awesome only time will tell if the show will be good but if there are more psn exclusives like this then the video section might not be a waste of time after all.

Inhert Jul 17, 2008 10:32 PM

I have a question about a video that was playing at the start of the conference.

they just put it in the playstation store (called: playstation family sizzle)

anyone know the song that play during it?
