Battle Week? I was wondering what that was about. Well, here's my two cents. I assume voting is the same as any other week.

Super Monkey Ball- I can't believe it won last week. I thought it was pretty boring and preppy. A shame, there were some good tracks last week.

Plok- Alright, hillbilly sort of theme that doesn't evoke what I'd call good gaming in me.

Planet She- One of the best songs I've heard in a long time. Kudos to the nominator, there, it's gorgeous.

Ultimate Destroyer- High energy but not the most interesting song ever, and too repetitive.

MegaMari- A wonder how it won anything, it sort of reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing a bit, which annoyed the heck out of me.

Maple Story- Nice, smooth piano. Not as great as Planet She, but it is very mellowing. I almost expected it to break out into a "I can see clearly now the rain is gone" solo.

an cinniuint- WHOA. Was not expecting anything like this. Evokes a little bit of Nightwish, but remixed and hillbilly like Plok (but this is a good one). If only it went somewhere.

Addams Family- What the heck. Honestly: what the heck. Is this a weak week or what? Weird and melodic but altogether too child themed for me.

Planet She- 3 points
an cinniuint- 2 points
Maple Story- 1 point

Will nominations from last week go to next week? I assume so.

It turns out that today is opposite day, so all of what you have said is true, so you should probably just go.

HAHAH! MITSUDA FIGHTING!!!!~~~

>.>

Anyways, points this week:

~~~POINTS~~~
1st --> Battle with the Devil 3 pts
2nd --> Izayoi Sakuya Stage 1 pt
Ultimate Destroyer 1 pt
Main Theme 1pt
I decided my points last week, considering that batch of songs was decent, not amazing. I would have given max 6 points to Battle with the Devil, that song is great (there's a reason I nominated it). But I couldn't. Anyways, GL BwtD! (and the other songs i guess.. meh.)
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
If this battle consisted of all the 2nd placers instead, this would've been the greatest Battle of all time.
I had two of those second-place finishers, so I'm taking that one as a compliment.
Seriously, though: Illusion, Factory Beat, Sound Test Music 05... that would've been epic.
I'm not considering this an epic battle, as a lot of the first place finishers weren't that impressive, in my opinion. So, I'm gonna give up a modified shotgun blast to the ones that aren't that bad.
2 Points: Maple Story (Game Rip) - Above the Treetops
1 Point: Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz (Game Rip) - Staff Credit Game
1 Point: Plok! (SNES Game Rip) - Main Theme
1 Point: STELLA DEUS BGM ReArrange Album - Planet She
1 Point: www.ssh.ne.jp - Ultimate Destroyer
Bathroom ~ Ending was the winner of a very unimpressive week and although it tugs at my heartstrings for the Addams Family representation, the track itself doesn't live up to the standards of a Battle winner.
Izayoi Sakuya Stage was cool the first couple times but felt more ordinary with successive listenings.
Battle with the Devil is a quality track, but the knee-jerk OMG MITSUDA!! reaction still rubs me the wrong way and I can't justify giving Mitsuda anymore exposure than he already gets, whereas there are some other deserving candidates in this list who need the boost a lot more.
'Above the Treetops' emerges as the slight favorite for me and I wish it luck.
3 points - Battle with the Devil
2 points - Plok! Main Theme
1 point - Planet She
I can't give Battle with the Devil a handicap just because the composer is well known... I could see myself doing that if it was recieving underserving points, but the fact of the matter is, it's just better than the rest of the competition.
Drakken mentioned to me yesterday that it might be a good time for another queue shuffle. It's been a while since the last one, and we haven't been getting enough new nominators to have a significant impact on the queue order (compare the green names in weeks 72, 75, and 78), so I'm inclined to agree.
As with last time, there's of course the chance of being promoted or demoted: people at the top of the queue have a greater chance of having to wait longer for their track to come up, and people at the bottom have a greater chance of having to wait less. I remember the last time we did this, you could choose whether or not you wanted to keep your spot in the queue, but I don't remember whether the default choice was to stay or go (whether you had to opt in or opt out).
Seeing as I'm not exactly swimming in nominations and I'm almost assured to have my turn next week, I'm in for the shuffle. Prolonging the search is ok by me. Seems like someone nominated a PinkSweets track (the wrong one), and that was going to be my next resource to tap anyhow.
- STELLA DEUS BGM ReArrange Album - Planet She
- Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz (Game Rip) - Staff Credit Game
- MegaMari: Marisa no Yabou (Game Rip) - Izayoi Sakuya Stage
I'm okay with my queue placement for now--asking for a shuffle would probably be asking for trouble.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz (Game Rip) - Staff Credit Game Not bad, but tries to cram too much into its running time and winds up just sounding chaotic and rushed. Any one of its multiple personalities would have made a great song on its own if developed.
Plok! (SNES Game Rip) - Main Theme Follin's first winner, and the best Plok track thus far in my opinion. Jazzy, cute, and bouncy to a fault, I couldn't understand the negative reaction some people had to this one. Maybe it gave them a cavity.
STELLA DEUS BGM ReArrange Album - Planet She My nom, and my second-ever SoTW winner. I'm obviously biased, but the combination of a killer original melody with a brilliant piano arrangement still gets me every time. I find myself fingering along even though I don't know how to play the piano.
www.ssh.ne.jp - Ultimate Destroyer Not-bad mix of the synthy and rocky. I've always felt vaguely uneasy about these SSH tracks, maybe because the entry rules were sorta bent to let 'em in.
MegaMari: Marisa no Yabou (Game Rip) - Izayoi Sakuya Stage Cute bit of synthy jazzin' that vagely reminds me of another Mega.
Maple Story (Game Rip) - Above the Treetops Very nice piano and guitar parts here, though I'm not as thrilled with the synth rhythm bits, since they tend to overpower everything else. Still, a nice peaceful track.
an cinniùint - Battle with the Devil It's Mitsuda! Frankly, it's harder to find a track he's written that doesn't mop the floor with its competitors. This one's not one of his best, but still a nice combination of atmospherein' and Celtin'.
The Addams Family: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt (SNES Game Rip) - Bathroom ~ Ending The winner of a very weak week, this synthy little thing just can't compete with the big guys in terms of complexity or memorability.
I think we've got quite the strong bunch here, and point assignment was a little tough.
The Point Spread
3 pts. - Planet She
1 pt. - Above the Treetops
1 pt. - Plok
1 pt. - Battle with Mitsuda
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
Yeah, since S.S.H. has composed for a video game, we allow his unpublished arrangements and original works in addition to his actual VGM compositions.
I do like Bathroom ~ Ending for its synthy, bubbly soundscape. I felt it was a superior track in its respective week, and still holds up well here.
Yea for both a shuffle, and allowing anything Phantasy Star.
