Laptop CD drive problems...

My friend is having problems with the CD-ROM drive on her laptop. It used to read music and data CDRs just fine until recently. Every time we put a data CDR in there, we get an error message saying: "D:\ not accessible. Incorrect function".

How do we fix this?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Ugh. The same trouble hit mine. Restarting is all I know of that could fix it. Until next time

There's nowhere I can't reach.
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

Try uninstalling the device in Device Manager and restarting.
You might need to do a firmware upgrade on the drive, but, in my experience, that error is caused by the drive temporarily fucking up. Allowing Windows to reinstall it should fix the issue.

Sorry, I should've told you what we've done so far. We restarted the computer quite a few times and the error is still the same. I uninstalled it and it reinstalled itself a few times with no success.

Reinstalling Windows REQUIRES the CD though! Paradox~ ;___;

I was speaking idiomatically.

I meant, "Allowing Windows to reinstall the optical drive after rebooting"...
Plus, the drive would probably work with a Windows install due to its lack of dependency on the installed SPTI/ASPI layer.

A firmware update, then, may be necessary. (Maybe the drive has partially died >_>)
Unless you have Roxio 4.0 and earlier installed on the machine (assuming that it's Windows XP).

Now that I think of it, check to see that the drive's "Enable CD recording on this drive option is checked":
Right-Click on the drive in My Computer->Properties->Recording Tab->check the "Enable CD Recording On This Drive" box if it is not checked.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
