Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright - The Greatest Game Ever Made

Announced today, Professor Layton VS Gyakuten Saiban (or Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright, as it'll probably end up being turned into over here) is a collaboration between LEVEL-5 and Capcom, which apparently combines the gameplay of both games as the Professor and Phoenix team up to solve something or another.

It's coming out for the 3DS, as well!

In this thread, we discuss how this is the best game idea ever and how many copies we are going to buy.

The 3DS can now cost 1000 dollars.

And I will consider it a cheap price to pay.

Looks like they messed with Layton's proportions a bit to have him match Phoenix.

What's with the hiding picture? It's not like Phoenix and Layton ever really did any harm, all they do is think and occasionally point at people. And Nick yells sometimes, but really.

I am getting this game so much.

Wait, Capcom's making a crossover game and they're not cramming Ryu into it somehow?

I've been saying for years that Ace Attorney case endings need to make far less logical sense.

Finally my wish is granted.

OK, so it's both regular and 3DS, right? This has bearing on how fast I can get the game when it comes out.

Also, looks like despite having new proportions, Layton will still have the beefy neck. Fantastic.

Um, no.

It specifically says 3DS. Why do you think it would be on the regular one?

This is the most ridiculous cross-over news that I have ever heard (since Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.) As a fan of both series, this tingles my spider sense most pleasantly. Looks like I'm gonna have to shell the cash for the 3DS.

Also wonder what it would look like if they messed with Phoenix's proportions to make him look more like Layton. :???:

Start?

I think I can answer this. The announcement mentioned that the Story Teller is the main villain. If you look at the cart the horse is drawing, it's got him on it, writing away. So, they're probably hiding from him.

Sorry, but Phoenix Wright is pretty much confirmed not to be in MVC3 in this interview.

I don't really understand why everyone wants him in the game; he's not a fighter. I could see him jumping out and yelling "Objection!" with the word bubble doing some damage as a support character if it were like MVC1, but it just doesn't make any sense to give him a fighting game move set. If anyone from that series would fit in as a fighter, it'd be Franziska von Karma. At least she uses a whip.

Here is a quipless post. I hope the following trailer makes up for a lack of smarmy remarks on my part.

I literally cannot deal with how fucking awesome that trailer is. Fuck. FUCK.

Someone on GAF posted a rough translation of the trailer:

Quote:
Here is my broken Japanese attempt at translating.

Professor Layton: The person who threw this city into (chaos/disorder??) using her powers of magic...is YOU!

Blonde Girl: No, you are wrong. I am not a witch!

Professor Layton: If that is true...then how did you know the contents of a book that you could not have read?

Phoenix: [smirk] Objection!

Phoenix: Professor, there is a large contradiction in your argument!

Narrator: Strange incidents are happening in Labyrinth City. A professor of archaeology versus a lawyer. A shocking development will challenge both of them!

Narrator: The Witch Trails.

Luke: What is written here in this book is coming true!

Maya: There's no way this is happening!

Narrator: The (Creator?) that rules the city...the ultimate culprit, "Storyteller."

Blonde girl: I am going to be killed. It was written (in that book!)

Phoenix: I will not let things happen the way they are (written in the book!)

Professor Layton: Mr. Wright...it seems we had a large misunderstanding.

Narrator: Hershel Layton...Phoenix Wright: A shocking (collaboration/teamup).

Professor Layton: Luke, doing the right thing doesn't always mean following the law.

Phoenix: (Unknown word) It seems he cannot be satisfied easily, this Mr. Silk Hat.

Narrator: This time, the puzzles are filled with contradictions!

I swear by Ace Attorney. I say i have favourite games, but it must be remembered that Phoenix has a place above all of that trivial placement value stuff.

I have never played a Layton game. I have always wanted to, and i guess this will be my introduction to the franchise. Or should i be searching high and low for the backlog?

Skills is correct. Go and find any of the three of them. You don't have to play them in any particular order. The stories are entirely self-contained, the only thing that changes game to game is some of the frills, like the memo system or bonus puzzles.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
