PS3 or XBOX 360 or Elite on the BBC Micro

Hello folks,

I am going completely crazy. I must chose one of those 2: xbox 360 elite or a PS3. I've been reading all the threads i could find for at least 2 weeks, checking the specs and the game library... Almost all those things are identical (i don't really need a blue-ray) except some specs here but then it's balanced with another spec there or exclusive games like Halo or ninja gaiden... So i still can't decide. That's why i ask you the question, i don't need more specs or game list but more your opinions, you who have those consoles for a while, what would you advise?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I have both an Xbox 360 and a PS3. I have not spent more than a total of maybe 4 or 5 hours playing any game on my PS3 in the past five months. I play my 360 almost every day. There, I have made a point without providing specs or a game list.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I've been wondering this myself. In about a month, I'll have saved up enough money for one, and I gotta choose.

I'm leaning towards the 360, but games like MGS4, the next FF and KH, make me take a harder look at the PS3.

If only there were more non-shooters for the 360. The decision would be so easier.

And I'm just the opposite of russ. I have a 360, PS3, and a Wii, and my PS3 is pretty much the only machine I use. I bought the 360 for Mass Effect which is coming out for the PC today and the Wii...well I'm giving that away to my mother.

I think it boils down to this -- are you a Halo/Ninja Gaiden fan? Get a 360. Are you a Metal Gear Solid/Final Fantasy fan? Get a PS3.

If you're a videogamer in general, there's no reason not own a 360. If you're more RPG desperate, then the PS3 is one with potential. Then again, right now the 360 has Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata, so.

I have both a 360 and a PS3. Or rather, I own both, but my friend has my PS3 right now as I don't play on it.

They're both fine machines and while 360 has the obvious benefit of a superior controller, it really comes down to which has the exclusives to interest me. Of the big PS3 exclusives everyone's all excited about, I myself am not all that anxious for MGS4 or FFXIII. Motorstorm 2 and Project Thrico though? Those are going to be great.

EDIT:

With multiplat games I prefer to go for the 360 version because of the better controller. Can't really recall which 360 exclusives I'm looking forward to. Perfectly content playing my backlog of old Xbox games, actually.

Xbox 360: where even the RPGs are shooters.

Kind of has a nice ring to it.

Most of the 360 shooters (outside the exclusives) are on PS3 as well (even Bioshock now). That's current gen in general, not just 360.

Not that the PS3 doesn't have its share of exclusive shooters either. Resistance 1 and 2, Killzone 2, Uncharted (anyone who calls this an adventure game is an idiot) and Haze recently.

Well, when i look at titles like Halo and Ninja Gaiden, mixed with the amount of people sharing their friend code, i must admit that the xbox 360 elite attracts me more than the ps3.
I think that when i ask other people's opinion, i secretly am looking for people to comfort me in the idea to buy the xbox 360. It perhaps means that, deep down, i already know which one i want...

One the tech side, isn't the ps3 more adapted for wifi connections (my case)? and has more codecs for playing all my animes?

I don't know about the codecs, but yeah the PS3 has a wireless network adapter built-in, whereas you're gonna throw down another $100 to get that same setup on your 360.

DualShock 3 ftw, Q.

Dual shock 3 still has the shitty triggers. Confirm or deny? Additionally, the analog/control pad layout is just silly, since how many games primarily use the d-pad now, yet it is in the more prominent location. Sorry, but the 360 controller's layout makes more sense, and the triggers do not feel like peanut butter.

To each his own is the ultimate answer here russ. You like the 360 controller, which I'm not saying is bad either, but I prefer the Dual Shock 3.

I've never minded the layout of the dual shock. The triggers are admittedly crappy, but my biggest issue was always the flimsy analogue sticks. They are just too light and loose for my taste and make playing most games requiring aiming a bigger chore than it should be. Which is why I, again, go for the 360 versions with multiplats. The sticks are pretty decent for platforming and adventuring.

Codec wise they are the same, and since you mentioned anime i take it you'll only need xvid/divx which both support.
If you want a pure media center go with the ps3, bluray player and the new firmwire puts in support for hdmi 1,3 and ps3 has better support for hd sound with 7 speakers.

Game wise a lot is the same, ps3 has mgs4 and 360 has halo i guess. Microsofts multiplayer service is much smoother and better in my opinion. But the nerds above me know more about the games then me so insert whatever they said.

Would it not be advantageous to test out which one you'd like more by going to your nearest blockbuster and renting them each for a week with a selection of whatever titles you're interested in? It's probably a much easier way to decide than going off the thoughts of anyone here. It'll save you money in the long run if you end up deciding you're not a fan of whatever you just bought.

Controller: 360 takes the cake. Do they even sell the Dualshock3 with the consoles in the US now? I know they don't do that in Europe (yet). The pad layout of the 360 pad is better than the old Dualshock one. The anlouge sticks themselves are better and more responsive. The triggers are better. Overall, the 360 pad feels more solid, heavier, just... nicer to touch and to hold.

Games: 360 takes the cake. At least for now. It has the advantage of being out a year longer. Thus there are more games for it. Plus, most multiplats are better working on 360. At least for now.
The PS3 though has SCE and their teams, which are very good companies all of them (Naughty Dog, Team ICO, etc.). They just haven't gotten around making that killer app yet, sadly.

Console itself: PS3 takes the cake. It's much quieter. It produces a lot less heat (in summer that's kinda important...). And due to the RROD issue, which is mostly a psychological thing - with me at least - you won't have to fear the console kicking the bucket every time you have a longer play session. Plus, it doesn't have an external PSU, and can be plugged in with a standardized cable.

I guess it really depends. The 360 already has a very solid library. The PS3 is just spinning up in that department, and will probably have a good library with the coming christmas season. They're both pretty good machines (one with a faulty hardware architecture, but as long as it doesn't break down it's a good machine).
Nonetheless, Skills has a point. You also could just set up an account on PSN / LIVE! and download some demos to see if you like the consoles line up.

Thank you all for your answers. If i could i would rent the consoles, each for a week but i live in a very small town and unfortunately there isn't any place where i could do it T_T
That's why your opinions were very nice, i know all i was wondering about. And i think i'll just go for the 360, the game library, the paddle, the online stuff, that's a lot on one side of the scale... So thank you all again ^_-

Hey man, that plastic tree has a lot of sentimental value. The one of them has an older brother (let's call him Steve) who used to own it just a little while ago, and the other one's father was murdered by Steve in cold blood almost 4 years ago.

Just because their neighbour went out and got a new tree doesn't mean shit to these folks.

On that note, I'd suggest not bothering with the Elite and getting the normal model. You can then spend the money you save on the wireless adaptor. Unless you're going to be storing a shit load of media files on it, you're very unlikely to fill up the HDD on the standard model and unless you're gay for black consoles, there's little other benefit I see in buying an Elite.

Talking

I think you've made the right choice going for the 360, on the overlook of both at this thread we can easily see that for games and gameplay (offline and online) that the 360 is just a lot more solid and has it's roots already very much set in the game market soil while PS3 is still only just sprouting really and yes i have kinda said what everyone else has but i felt i wanted my opinion to be heard for your help.

P.S. Moderators i am sorting my signiture out just plz don't give me anymore points thanks it will be sorted shortley
