Where exactly were we going to put the new city? The most sensible place might be the wooded hill up where Pang is sending the settler but if we built it on the single square of land below the mountain up north, we could sail ships through it to reach the other side of the island (If it is an island).

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Looking at it, my thought was either on the hill, or in the fields, so that we're near an ocean square, and also have both the Cow and Iron. Honestly, I don't think we're in a position where we're going to be building a lot of boats very soon, and right now we just need good cities with lots of production so we can spread quick. I admit the strategic value of the canal down the road would be pretty valuable though, it would just be a crap shoot for what resources are available to the North.

I was thinking we could perhaps build one more workboat than we need for the clams and send it off on a voyage of discovery, at least so we know whether to expect invading land armies from the south. If it's a really long way round the continent to the south, a canal might come in handy although I guess a port with decent production on the western half of the island would do just as well.

Are you going to take the next turn Areas or shall I take it? I guess whoever does gets to name the city...

I was speaking idiomatically.

Well, I thought Turbo was going to take the turn. Lets give him his day, and if he doesn't take the turn and found the city, then we can just start the cycle back at the beginning and you can pick whether we end up with a canal city or a more traditional one.

Looking at the save, I'm thinking I skip this one for the new city placement and future planning as this is the stage of the game where I tend to make more mistakes..

You sure Turbo? We're just taking a stab in the dark ourselves if we take the turn, and from the talk above, neither of us is sold on which option would work out better for the future. Wouldn't want you to feel like you can't make critical decisions or affect strategy. Half the fun's just dealing with what other people have chosen.

Yeah, go on Turbo, be bold. Just make sure you give the city a suitably silly name.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Alright. My turns are done. Founded the city near the cow and iron. Improving some resources, connecting cities together and just general maintenance. Researching compass because I believe we'll need to build boats if we're to explore further and no sign of barbarians.

Cool, I'll take my turn when I get home tonight.

Turned out pretty uneventful. Once the courthouse was completed in Amsterdam, I built a Settler then an Archer and sent them off to Cow Town as a stop off to go and found another city. I then started on a work boat to go and explore the coastline a bit. Powahowsa finished its aqueduct so I started on another Archer, thinking that'd speed up the process of yet another defended city. We can build a settler in five turns in Amsterdam currently so I reckon we ought to fill up our immediate continent with cities as soon as we can. There's scientists and prophets and shit being born all over the shop, we might want to build some stuff to get us more great people.

Got the save, and running a bit late. Currently sitting in an airport on the road, but I'll take this as soon as I'm able. May be able to finish it off before I get to my destination.

Still working, but here's the turn so things can progress.

Founded another city down to the SW, and have another Settler / Archer combo heading out West. Otherwise, built a temple to have some more happiness at our Capital, which is raging mad, and built a work boat to get some fish.

They have built the Hagia Sophia, we definitely need to speed it up.

If you guys don't mind, I wouldn't mind jumping back into this - i have BTS and will be back at school next week, should be able to settle back into my usual routine of being antisocial and chronically depressed most of the time within a couple of weeks. The best place to put me in the rotation would be right before Araes again - i have his e-mail already so i can send the file via e-mail on account of my unwillingness to fix the fact that i can't use the internet properly.

Sounds fine with me Hawkeye, and glad to have you back. Until Shin takes his vacation, you can slide in after him, and that should segue well into what he suggested. I'll add you into the rotation on the initial page.

Yeah, im sorry. Having a bit of a rough time at the moment, haven't been able to sit down and get my turns done. I apologize and for this round it would be best if I sit out. Hopefully things will have cleared up by the time my turn swings around again. `

So we've now met Roosevelt of the French, who immediately offered us open borders, which I accepted. We built a missionary in Amsterdam who I sent off to Utrecht to spread the word before building some walls round the city. We also got a great prophet in Amsterdam which I used to build the special Muslim building thingy. I started on a market once the walls were done.

Around the rest of the empire, things were largely quiet, except for another settler getting produced which I sent off towards the north west corner.

Excellent, thanks for the update, and got the save. I'll take it before our Labor Day celebrations are done with.

Additional Spam:
Unfortunately, I forgot that you had rejoined us Hawkeye, so feel free to take your turn after me.

Our scene opens on a nation which is somewhat behind the times and surrounded on all sides by barbarian ships, yet for some reason has none on its land at all.

I quickly get to work founding Rotterdam, as everything is in place for this fine new village.

And shortly thereafter, one of our wisemen realizes, that while its been quite handy to be able to mine and process all of these wonderful minerals, its all rather useless unless you can make them into interesting shapes.

And everybody gets to work making Forges.

Of note, we lose trade with Elizabeth because she has developed Mercantilism... oy, and we also meet up with Hammurabi of the Mongolians, who gets to have an olive branch of love.

Micro has moved us up a few more points, yet we're still being tripled by our competitors, and many of our settlements are having growth issues. At Powa, I was considering building a Hamlet / Village at the two food square, as they need something besides one food with shields.

I'm guessing the lack of any opposition units wandering around our continent suggests that even if we're not technically an island, we're separated from eveyone else by impassable mountains? Handy for defence of our realm, not so useful for sending out missionaries and the like.

How ya doing, buddy?

Likely right Shin, and since I've been seeing Barb ships moving all over the place around our lower border, my suspiciuon is that our landmass extends a b it out of our sightrange South, and then ends.

Hawkeye, shame to hear you're passing this turn, after just joining, but if so, Pang you're up.

Finished up Construction, grabbed Monarchy and switched to it before going for Alphabet, spread both our religions to our remaining cities which were lacking, sent a Warrior to finally explore the rest of the damned continent (it will take him some time to get over there, though)
