Gelf's Crap!
Here's a bunch of stuff from class. There's a bit of nakedness, but nothing graphic.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I love gesture drawings. they're so much fun to do, and with limitted amounts of time for each pose, they always seem to come out in this rather interesting half scribbled look while still having recognizable shapes and details to them.
I like the one of the person crawling. the form really shows through on that one. nice job~ There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Something I did for conceptual illustration a few weeks ago. I really should've colored it, but oh well.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Haha, I'm just trying to picture you as the same guy drawing bunnies and cheering frogs and stuff. That turtle's crossing the line yelling "Fuck you, junior members!"
In all seriousness though, it looks cool. =P I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I like your bunnies a lot. You should draw more of them.
Ahem. I really like your animals. Do you enjoy drawing the concept piece? The varied expression really bring out the dynamics between the characters. The character lines concise and animals are easily recognizable. The placement of the tree is good, but texture doesn't feel like tree, however. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Thanks guys, and yeah magi, you're definitely right about the tree. Originally I had plans to color the picture which wouldl've hopefully corrected the problem. I wanted to give a watercolor effect similar to a Beatrix Potter book. Despite my "fuck junior members!" attitude from time to time, I still have the ability to draw things that are just too cute for their own good. I think a lot of it comes from drawing little animals and stuff like this for girls in middle school. It was always, "Draw me a bunny!" "Draw me a kitty!" and I'd cave... I'd do anything for a pretty girl.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Here's a new one as of lastnight. A watercolor seascape for a class called stylistic development.
FELIPE NO |
Stylistic development? So this is approching this as a graphic design perspective rather then a painting perspective? How big is it? Since you only started it, I am assuming that you haven't got to some of the deeper shading ahd shadows.

Nah, it's actually done. The class on stylistic dev has us go through all of our previous work and find a general trend to our style. Afterwards we apply that to a subject matter and medium that we usually don't use, and see if our "style" comes thru or not. I rarely do landscapes, and rarely use watercolor, but most everybody in the class could tell that it was "my style."
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Is sylistic development a special topics class or art class?
I like the little turtle and bunny sketch as well. Some of the life drawing sketches were cool as well. I need to audit that class sometime. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I love the Slow and Steady drawing! You should really illustrate children's books or something.
The painting is also very nice. I like the light, washy feel to it, and the fence looks really nice! This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Thanks!
Yeah, Stylistic Dev is actually ART412 with Ron Floyd. The Slow and Steady one is for Conceptual Illustration which is ART 400. I've currently got it as an online course with Paul Andrus, but you can take it at school with Linda if you want. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
How is the conceptual illustration class? I've been thinking of taking it.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
ohh... art students..
I want to attend art classes, you know, just to have some formal way of learning stuff. Nice figure drawing man, the human body is a complex thing to draw, having classes about them really helps in developing your art. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
nice I love the life art. I've tried that but I was told that I'm too "tight" ~_~
It'd be great if you post some of you older works as well, those were awsome. FELIPE NO New Record! |
I like the lighthouse drawing mainly because I love pics of Beaches and the Ocean. I would like if it had some sort of sunlight in it though.
The Turtle and the Hare drawing is very nice and very detailed. Not to mention, cute. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Thanks for the feedback guys. And Shenlon, I'll see if I can't dig up some of my old stuff and put some links in the first post.
Here are my last two projects for the conceptual illustration class. They were pretty rushed, but oh well. This first one was supposed to illustrate a sound metaphorically. I chose the sound of "excitement" as the noise a fishing reel makes when a big fish hits. This last one kind of a political cartoon that remained partisan neutral. My teacher is a Dem and I'm a Rep, so I didn't want to assert my point of view in fear for my grade. Neither did I want to sell out and do something that I didn't agree with. This was the result. I decided to go with the caption of "You fellas play nice" but it could just as easily have been "I wanna see a clean fight - Let's get ready to rumble!" Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Hey Chris, how is the conceptual illustration class? Worth taking? What do you learn in there?
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Haha, weird, nobody on here has ever posted my real name.
I'd say it was a pretty good class. You have a total of 5 projects including the final where you have to illustrate a preset concept. The first one was to illustrate the nursery rhyme "Jack and Jill" where Jack and Jill could be anything except the obvious, a boy and girl. Basically then, we had to draw in a series of panels the idea of ambition gone wrong in the stages of the poem. I did Jack and Jill as pirates finding treasure, and then betraying each other out of greed. It's a pretty good class just for the excercises. Really though if you want a lot of feedback and constructive crits, it depends on who the instructor is. I had Paul Andrus who also teaches figure drawing, and he was pretty good. You can also take the course with Linda. I've never had her before, but I hear she's good as well. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Was it supposed to be a secret? I'll edit it if you want and you're welcome to call me by my real name.
Cool I'll have to check it out. I've been interested in it, just wanted some actual student feedback on it. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
|
Ok since nobody liked my animation, it's back to the drawing board. Here's crap from doodling in class.

I really like your drawing style. It's so clean. Just curious, the fourth drawing in your first post, how long did you have for each pose? It's amazing how you can convey so much with so little detail. I'm having trouble with this myself.
I also really like your sketches that you recently post. I'm rather quite envious of your imagination. I can't seem to draw past what I see or anything else beyond the notion of realism. SO MUCH ENVY FELIPE NO |
Hey thanks for the comments Kazyl. The 4th drawing(s) that you asked about, I believe we were given 5mins for the pose. Whenever I begin a gesture drawing like that. I usually put the head in first, or sometimes just a main gesture line of where the spine is. Afterwards I lay in the angle of the shoulders and hips, and then begin to build on top with contour lines of varied weight. With the remaining time, I'll block in some values in the highest constrast areas to emphasize the illusion of depth.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
That "Slow and Steady" illustration is awesome! I also really liked the level of detail on the political cartoon, as well as the drawing above it. Your recently posted designs are quite cool as well. Keep 'em coming!
