Strange file extensions on a PC game disc.

I have no idea how to extract the music from this disc, can anyone help? The only (big) files on the disc which may hold the music are .(a), .HE2 and .HE4 files. There are many other files, of course, but they're all under a MB and I doubt they hold any music.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Do you mean this is for the Heroes of Might and Magic 4? The music is compressed actually, but some groups have made the patch. please try keywords "h4unpacker" in google (I forgot the site, sorry). The patch will decompress the archive and you could access all the music. I don't know about any other games than this.

Nope, I'm afraid that didn't help - I'm looking to extract music from the game "Putt-Putt Enters The Race", and other Humongous Entertainment (damn nostalgia...). If you need any more information that what I gave you, feel free to ask.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Try Galbadia Hotel, they probably have the soundtrack you're after. (Click the "View-All" link to see a complete list)

Also Game Audio Player can scan and read formats of many games, give it a try and see if it can play back your files.

Unfortunately, Galbadia Hotel doesn't have the soundtracks (rips) I'm looking for. And GAP didn't help me either, unless I'm using it wrong...

Any other methods? Please feel free to share!

Well, instead of making a new thread I'll just add a post here (on the same subject). Instead of ripping these games' music, I have decided to record the music using Audacity and Cool Edit pro. Firstly, can anyone recommend any better software for recording (game music)? Preferably freeware.

Also, when recording the background music, the character often does annoying things such as scratch their head or stomp their feet - this causes them to appear in the final version of the mp3...does anyone know how I can get these annoying sounds out of my recordings?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. Go into the Options and turn the "Sound" or "SFX" volume down to zero.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

can you send me those .he2 and .he4 files?
I´ll try to rip them, cause it´s interesting to see what JS did in his young years!

There's nowhere I can't reach.

But what will you use to extract that file? I thought muzza will do it alone by recording the game, I assume you must have the .iso to rip the entire game.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
You all think you got good deals, huh? Ha! You frugal and observant shoppers have more to learn.

None of that approaches this:

The Mr. Methane CD, purchased over ebay for .01¢. Yeah, free shipping. This guy performs all sorts of neat stuff, including the doot doot, doot doot from the Blue Danube.

Allow me to share a track from this CD. Here ya go.
I think he should have paid you .01¢ instead.

Oh, I just realised people were still posting in this topic =P Don't worry, I'm (slowly) recording all the Humongous Entertainment games I own - I may share them when I'm finished if I think the recording is good enough.

IIRC the ScummVM developer team has also written some interpreters for software from Humongous. Maybe you can find some info in their Wiki or write a mail.
