Nintendo DS vs DS Lite

So I wiped the cobwebs off of my Nintendo DS then went out and picked up Contra 4. Everything was fine until I had to deal with enemies and platforming on both screens. It's incredibly disjointing to say the least. First of all for anyone who's played both versions of the NDS I'm wondering if the screens are closer on the Lite version? Secondly am I the only one who's a little put off by quick reflex games which happen across both screens?

This about the DS or the game?

It's about the same distance.

Yeah, it's roughly the same distance between the screens. I had a bit of trouble with Yoshi's Island 2 at first for the same reason, but you get used to it pretty quickly. As for the difficulty, well, it's Contra. That should answer it all.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm not a fan of the setup, but I am getting used to it. Looking at Nintendo's past with the Super Gameboy and GBA adapter for the GC something tells me they've got to be considering a way to play DS games on the Wii. Classic controller + Wiimote FTW.

I'd honestly be very surprised if something of the stort materialized. I think you'd be better off waiting for a working DS emu than that.

No offense, but how is having to connect a controller to a remote in order to play a game "FTW".

Basically you would use the wiimote as the stylus. I for one can say that Phantom Hourglass would be awesome with the wiimote.

A nice big screen and a blunt. That would make me happy.

I agree about the wiimote being used in phantom hourglass... the stylus blocks the view. Get's annoying sometimes.

I've played both versions of the DS, and while the lite looks more stylish and ipod-like (yes, everything will resemble the ipod in a decade), I really prefer the older DS. I like how the buttons feel on the old one, definitely prefer the stylus and the placement of the stylus on the old one, and I honestly think something is wrong with the placement of the microphone on the DS-lite. My friends complain about hearing echos or their own voices at times while playing MP: Hunters, and I notice that when we play Mario Party DS (which is a lot), I have NEVER lost a game that involves blowing on the microphone. I'm not embellishing that; I mean never. So yeah, the regular DS wins on pretty much every front for me. I just wish the screen could be a bit brighter.

Is the volume control on the original DS as stupid as the Lite? I swear it only has two settings on mine. Off and way too fucking loud to ever have on in public.

Didn't we had this kind of discussion before?

Anyway, it seems like the sound and speaker problem aren't consistent. So it varies from one DS phat/lite to another. I have to say I got the "perfect" DS phat. From the start I had no deal pixel problem, speaker problem and sound problem. My brother got a DS lite and the only problem with his DS lite is the speaker are crappy.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yeah, launch DS phat is probably the loudest of all the models. The DS phat has a better D pad but only slightly and you can get used to the lite's in time. The DS lite from stylus to screen is better in every other category.

I haven't any trouble with the two screens in Contra 4. It's a bit disorienting at first, but I've yet to die through anything that wasn't my own fault.

I do have trouble with the very, very tiny buttons of the Lite at especially hectic moments though, I keep pressing A by accident when I'm supposed jump while holding down Y.

I find the DS Lite so much easier to handle than the original DS.

I have a phat myself and I love it. I've tried my friends Lite once, but even though the screen was somewhat clearer I found the colors to be very red-ish/strong overall and borderline ugly in some games on the Lite. Is there something wrong with my friends Lite or are all Lites like this?

Sounds like it's your friend's Lite to me. I've seen the phat DS, and the screens just look dim and grey compared to Lite's crystal clear and lovely screens. My GBA games look amazing compared to my old GBA too
