Its back online here, and yes you're right about flOw. Its unfortunate though. This is bad for Sony especially since Nintendo just released A Link to the Motherfucking Past in VC. I'm about to go spend my virtual money on VC games. No joke.

This just in, PS3 Firmware 1.5 is now available for download, and it's confirmed to fix the BC issues with PS1 and PS2 games. I haven't tried it myself, but people are reporting the games look "perfect" now. I have no idea if they look "better", but I'll get back to you on that.
EDIT: Okay, I gave FFXI a quick spin, and it definetely looks as good as it does on PS2. The opening FMV is no longer embarrasingly compressed, and the textures are as clean as they were on the previous console. Even better, it's no longer required to change the PS3's resolution any lower than the max your TV can do (1080p in my case), as it will automatically change to 480p once you start the game. Does it look any better? Hard to say. I suppose the textures look a tiny bit cleaner, but that may have more to do with the fact that it's on HDMI rather than any upgrading from the PS3. However, this is certainly good news as it fixes one of the system's major problems. It also opens the door for improved textures on BC games. That March update is looking more and more promising. I was speaking idiomatically.

omfg! this is a WONDERFUL news!!!! damn I was pretty worried that the problem was more hardware, but apparently it is not! wow I'm happy XD now I don't need to see all those jaggy lol I guess my ps2 can fully retire now (sorry ps2 but you will collect dust in the closet XD)
I think it's a pretty good thing that sony manage to solve that problem, now there's really nothing much to say about the BC beside some little bug in some game (I still didn't find any bug that make the game unplayable or not enjoyable so it's a good thing ^^) What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |

Sony and Namco Bandai have fused DBZ style to from a new company called "Samcai" not really its actually called Celius. http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=7424
The article does not state whether or not this means Namco will no longer develop for other systems. FELIPE NO |

Namco produced for other companies since SoulCalibur 2 and Tales of Symphonia? Anyhow, at least that makes it pretty much a sure bet now that Tekken 6 and SoulCalibur 4 won't be jumping ship to the 360.
As for the new firmware update, BC=WhooHOO!!! Now if only MS could do the same for the 360 (want to play Unreal Championship 2 again). According to Joystiq (not very reliable I know) you're supposed to be able to use your own pics and audio clips for the system sounds now too, however there was something in there too about buying that support or something, I don't know. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
If that Sony/Namco partnership means a revival of Xenosaga for the PS3, then I will be.....
.....cautiously intrigued. Oblivion is out in February, right? Port or not, this will be the first notable PS3 release after Resistance, won't it? There's also Virtua Fighter 5, but I'm not quite as excited for that one as other diehard fans. The lack of an online mode (purposely left out by the director) hurts. How ya doing, buddy? |
That's only because online doesn't work for fighting games. The lag is killer, where in other genres it's managable. Hell, Street Fighter 2 didn't even run well over X-box LIVE, nor Capcom VS SNK2, nor Guilty Gear X, DOA4. Namco and Sega know this and therefore don't want to waste development time on something that can't work with today's internet.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
How's this for a PS3 launch lineup in Europe.

Considering all those titles are coming in March, we'll have the same amount by then. So I'm rather "meh" on the subject of their launch being larger than the US's.
I was speaking idiomatically. Reading -- Bleach, Claymore, Chun Rhang Yhur Jhun, NOW, Zero: Beginning of the Coffin, Black God, Twelve Kingdoms (novels), History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi Watching -- Bleach Playing -- Fable II, Valkyria Chronicles, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Star Ocean: First Departure, LittleBigPlanet, MegaMan 9, Mirror's Edge |
wow I'm really happy now that I got a 60gb version at launch because apparently Sony did a mistake with the price of the 60gb version in Canada. The 60gb version now cost 40$ more, so the price is 699$ instead of 659$ like I paid XD
well 40$ is enough to have bought me a new ps2 game or I could have got another sixaxis... still even if they did a mistake, I really don't think this is good publicity for Sony... What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I'll believe it when I see it. Conventional news sources are some of the least reliable and biased kind of reporters of the gaming industry. I'll believe it when I hear it from an actual gaming news source. However thanks for the heads-up if things do decide to develope.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
well the 1000$ thing I don't know if it's true but the price rise for the 60gb version in canada is true, just check any canada website like bestbuy and futureshop , they all change their price to 699$ when at launch it was 659$...

I have until christmas to get my PS3.... sadly no HDTV too... so I have to save up for that one as well... *sigh* Hi-Def gaming is really expensive
There's nowhere I can't reach.

$999.95 ($780 US) is the official price for the PS3 in Australia, yes. They announced that months ago. $120 first party games, too ($90 US). Game companies completely raping the exchange rate is nothing new though! This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
PS3's are now officially $1200 NZD here. That's $840 US dollars. Games will be $150 NZD ($104 US) a piece.
Yeah, no comment. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
It's almost as if these jokers don't want this thing to sell. I was speaking idiomatically. The text is part of the image and the two squires aren't exactly even. |
In March 07, when the PS3 will be released for $1200 here, you'll alternatively be able to purchase a retail PS2 for $200 and which often includes a platinum (greatest hits) game. So basically for the price of a PS3 here, you can purchase a PS2 and roughly 20 games (throw another one in there if you get a free game with the console). If you want some games for the PS3, it'll be $1550 for a PS3, 2 games and an additional controller. That's $1077 USD. I'm not sure what all the above listed is in USD nor do I even care because I won't be purchasing one. That's the 60GB PS3 I'm talking about, anyway. It's a little difficult to comprehend Sony's reasoning behind this. If I read correctly, UK will pay $2 USD less for the PS3, which will still be 425 pounds/$848 (I think; off the top of my head) USD. A little price comparison in New Zealand dollars would be: PS3 60gb console: $1199.95 Xbox 360 Pro console: $679.95 Wii console: $499.95 What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
The expected Danish price is around $865. If Xbox 360 is any indication, games'll be around $86-104.
I wouldn't be surprised if the price for PS3 is larger, though. FELIPE NO |
Hahaha, no pun intended right Kilroy?
10 bucks says that they'll follow the same traits as the PS2 and quickly drop their price over the period of the next year. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Most likely, it seems that Sony is trying to follow the trend of the PS2 in every way. From lack of systems, to sub par launch titles, to making the system hard to develope for. We'll have to wait and see if it works in the long run.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Heck, the PS2 still isn't $99 MSRP, which goes to show how stingy Sony is with the drops. Glad to know the old dog was just as costly over there as the PS3, since those prices are... apalling, to say the least. There's nowhere I can't reach. The text is part of the image and the two squires aren't exactly even. |
I couldn't find a Resistance thread anywhere, but I was wondering if anyone played it online. I just started a week or so ago but it would be cool if I could play with some of you guys. I do good in close quarters combat matches, but I suck bad at sniping.
