freeipods.com

So, are they really free? Do you really have to subscribe for the offers? or just go through the links (same with the 'refer your friends' do they have to subscribe or just go through the links?)?

Didn't realize indirect blatant advertising could fly around here, lolf.

Back on topic. Yes, you can really get a free iPod by clicking a few links here and there.

As far as I know there are several offers available which don't require having to actually pay for anything. Provided you refer people, these "pyramid scheme" sites do in fact work.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

There is a small chance that you will get one, but you will be better off using your time to find a real job, instead of looking for free iPods on the internet.

at this point in time. most everyone has already heard about it.
the people who have gotten freeipods from the site had to be one of the first people. i only know a few people personally that have gotten the free ipod.

How ya doing, buddy?

MSRP/$50 seems to be about 10 referrals, AND they have to successfully sign up. I think you'll need lots of open-minded friends to help you get your free ipod, since they may need 10 more friends each to get their share. so that's like 100 people already!

Fortunately I wasn't tempted to try it out, thinking there'll be external signups requiring payments. Those free ipod ads are sure fun to click though.

It seems "legit", but yeah, you need to constantly draw more people into it, so if you're not one of the first, and don't have a large pool of friends that can reliably sign up, then you're better off just buying an Ipod (or whatever they're offering).

You can probably sort of scam them by signing up for a trial offer or something (blockbuster might work, unless they're making you wait until the trial period ends now before they send it in), have 5 of your buddies do the same thing, and once they get confirmation emails, then cancel the trial (or something to that effect).

The wikipedia article (and one of the links on the bottom) mention websites where people apparently repeatedly sign up for stuff, and others on that site do so as well to help them (and get helped in return), but I don't know of any sites that do that "conga line" thing (wired seems to have a link to one, but it seems suspicious to me).

All in all, I wouldn't bother with it (particularly not for stuff like the Xbox360). And anyone posting those threads here asking for peeps to sign up should be banned immediately (particularly if they're a new account and only have a few posts at most. Maybe we should write a program that detects a spam link to one of those sites, it should auto delete the message or something lol).

Ya, if I really wanted one, I could buy about 50 right now, but my sister gave me this shirt that says "i <3 ipods freeipods.com" and I wondered if it was really the case (one of her friends actually did get one too).

These are pyramid schemes. Don't participate in them. If you want an iPod, but can't afford one, check eBay.

I know several people who got a free ipod, but the amount of time and effort involved is not worth it. Not to mention the fact that about 50 people were harrassing the shit out of me trying to get me to sign up for stuff about a year ago when this craze was in full force so that they'd get my referral. I did it for like two people - and nobody ever did mine. Thanks a lot, guys. Real cool.

But it's just as well. If you do this you should feel sort of sheepish or embarrassed for bothering, and having to be a tool to your friends and be like OH GOD PLEASE SIGN ME UP ADU I NEEaD A FREE PIEPOD

piepod was a typo but it was too awesome to delete.

I successfully got a freeipod a year or two ago. You pretty much advertise, cancel services. Whole process took around 2 months from start to end (being the ipod arriving at your doorstep). But now, since it's all over and heard about from virtually everyone, there's no point.

I was speaking idiomatically.

You can get one, but good luck convincing 5 other people that they can.

Also, don't sign up for the AOL offer, quasi-impossible to cancel.

Yep. They're not free. You have to buy shit, deal with tons of spam, AND refer other people.

You might as well just go steal one. It would probably cost less to pay the court fees and shit.

I remember trying to get a DS from one of those sites and they wanted me to pay for shipping for some bullshit free trials.

Fuck all that shit, too much of a waste of time and energy. Just get a job and buy one.

Heh, I got a friend who's been trying to do it for about 4 years now. He only needs 1 more referal too~ I'm such a dick to him.

But yea, although Pyramid schemes do work the practice is pretty sleezy.

From what I hear, the "free" ipods are actually refurbished. If anything, just go out and spend to get a new one. I've been enjoying mine for longer while others are furiously trying to get referrals. Why bother?

Much as I'm sure you'd all love to read another 6 pages of people repeating the same thing over and over again about how pyramid schemes blow, how a mate of theirs got a free ipod and how frankly, this is far harder work than just getting a job, I don't.

Closed like a motherfucker.
