My name is Trent Reznor, and I'm turning the music industry on its fucking head.

Ghosts - Splash

About twelve hours ago, out of NOWHERE, Trent released the new Nine Inch Nails full length album, Ghosts I-IV. Remember the release model used for NiggyTardust and Radiohead's latest? It's happening again, in a variety of configurations:

Spoiler:
FREE
First nine songs, in a variety of audio formats, at 320kbps. Comes with a load of wallpapers, icons, pdf booklet, etc.

$5
All 36 songs from Ghosts I-IV, plus the extras in the free pack.

$10 (plus shipping)
A six-segment two-disc gatefold digipak release of the album, plus booklet. Cheapest double album ever. Oh, and if you're the impatient sort, it includes the $5 deal - download the album plus the bonus shit before it arrives.

$75 (plus shipping)
Hardcover fabric case four-disc release. Includes the album on two discs (as with the $10 release), plus a DVD containing the source files of every song, and a Blu-Ray disc for audiophiles.

$300 (plus shipping)
Everything in the $75 deal, plus the album on four LPs, a hardcover book of prints of the booklet art, and a hardcover book of photographs. Signed. Limited to 2500 copies. Ultimate fanboy deal.

I'm planning on ordering the $10 deal... Once the server isn't completely clogged. I've been trying all morning.

This is going to be a very exciting year for NIN (with Year Zero II coming sometime), and maybe the beginning of something awesome for music in general. Totally unexpected and totally incredible.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I literally leapt out of my fucking chair. Unfortunately I'm near as dammit to broke and I don't get paid for another two weeks >.>

EDIT: Props for prompt shoutout.

DOUBLE EDIT: The free zip file of Ghosts 1 won't work; apparently the file is corrupt, or is that just me?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The servers are STILL backed up as fuck. I'm going to wait until later; I've tried ordering/downloading at least six times now...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Let me preface this by saying that I am a bit of an NIN fanboy.

I just ordered the $300 set.

May I be the first to say, you rich bastard

On the subject of NIN, is there any way for people in the UK to get a hold of the Still album? It's on amazon.com, not .uk, and the only way of getting it from there or the NIN site is to have a bank account in the US, as far as the sites have told me. I was assuming that I'd have the same problem with the Ghosts album but I can't find out until the server calms down.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Bit of a shame that the download link keeps conking out after 100kb, but I can keep trying...

I remember hearing that he was going to do this in some Wired Magazine interview.

How's the album sound, has anyone heard it yet?

You've got my five bux. I want my music.

Of course I try to download the FLAC version and the download blows up at some point between zero and ten megs. And it says that I have exceeded my limit. Yeah ok, I have exceeded my limit of zero completed downloads.

Fuck it; I just downloaded it from some guy's blog.

This is a very nice way to do things, but seriously, I'm going to wait and see how successful other people are in grabbing it before I lay down my cash in the future. :/

NIN actually uploaded it to a bunch of torrent sites just before it went on sale, so it wasn't exactly hard to get. Too bad it's awful.

1) The torrents are only the first nine songs
2) It's pretty fucking good and you're wrong

Well, maybe what NIN uploaded was only the first nine, but all 36 were up about an hour after the release.

Huh.

As for 'hard to get', all torrent traffic and the like is blocked here, so I have to rely on shit like Mediafire for my fix.

How ya doing, buddy?

Bought the download version. I would've got the digipak, but the shipping turned out to be more expensive that the album itself, so fuck that.

Is the whole album as depressing as the first two tracks?

Wish more artists did instrumentals like this.

These nine tracks definitely have more of a Fragile vibe than the past two albums, which kinda supports the theory that he was just trying to squeeze out a couple to get out from under his record contract.

Hm...all instrumental, huh? I wasn't expecting that.

Fragile / Aphex Twin Ambient Works vibe.
I like it.
In fact, the more I listen to it, the more Aphex Twin-ish tracks appear. Which is not a bad thing actually, just a bit unexpected.
I like it when my favourite bands to unexpected things. (Especially when they release complete albums without warning)

can someone explain how the studio-bluray version differs in quality from the FLAC files? and why is it worth so much more?

In retrospect, I should've ordered the ultra-deluxe package and sold it on eBay for 150% profit.

This is actually a cool instrumental album, though. Track 28 is my favourite so far. The photographs in the booklet are great, too.

Yeah, the ebay thing might be a good idea at some point down the line. I guess when I get mine I will not open it, just in case. Well, that is assuming that I get to actually download the album in FLAC at some point this year.
