The Gargoyle of the Yoshinagas

Gargoyle of the Yoshinagas is a new anime that deals with a gargoyle statue, which just as the title suggests, belongs to the Yoshinaga family. He is bent on being the gatekeeper of the house and seems to have a variety of strange abilities at his disposal.
These abilities include speaking to animals, unleashing fiery blasts, and teleportation.

It seems to have a rather odd mix of comedy and drama.

As for comedy, it's rather unusual for the townspeople to be so apathetic to the fact that there is a talking gargoyle that roasts any intruders over at the Yoshinaga house. The girl, Futaba, has a frequent tendency to drop kick the gargoyle as well (not to mention other people). We also meet a particularly crazy lady who so happens to be linked to the fact that the Yoshinagas reluctantly won the Gargoyle as a lottery prize.

As for drama, we see a cute little girl, Mimori, being traumatized by an experience of thugs breaking and entering. We also see the inner conflict of a guide dog named Lieutenant Avery. The drama is evident in the second half of the episode when the characters mope around and try to regain their bearings.

By the end of episode, I was glad to see that it wasn't all a random attempt at humour, although I was puzzled at what category to place this show in. It definitely has comedic elements but got pretty serious when it unfolded plot-wise.
We are left to ponder what the role of the mysterious man is who was only shown for a few seconds. He implies that there is another mysterious creation like the Gargoyle, and that his creation would beat hers.
As well, a cliffhanger of sorts was thrown out there, with the disappearance of Futaba at the end.

There didn't seem to be a next episode preview, unless the animation in the ending counted for that purpose.
Overall, it's definitely soemthing different. Not heading purely towards the comedy route, but also trying to stray away from becoming too serious. Give it a go.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
