HOT laptop

Ever since I got this laptop (about a year ago), it's been running really hot. After about 10 minutes, the laptop gets really hot, almost to the point of being unbearable. I've tried cleaning out the fans and stuff with no help.

Help? Maybe if I underclock it, it might run cooler?

Whenever I'm doing anything that requires a lot of processing power, I put my wallet underneath the front of my laptop, which lifts the fan area about two inches off the desk.

It's a really lame solution, I know, but it decreases the temperature by 30 degrees Celsius or more.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I bought one of those fans that go underneath the laptop to improve ventilation, but it didn't help at all. Waste of money. T,T

You've had your laptop for a year? It probably has a ton of dust in it by now and it's preventing your heatsink and fan from from working at its best. Take it apart and get rid of the dust. Compressed air and a small screwdriver can do the trick.

My laptop was idling at 60 before I cleaned it. Now, it's 45. Still warm, but way better than before.

Mine ran hot day one. Some of them are just garbage and melt the bottom of themselves.

I can't read the product code for my Windows installation and the rubber "legs" are starting to rub down. Its just another design flaw that manufacturers can't/won't fix.

What kind of laptop is it, and processor does it boast? Some CPUs will run hot just because they're power hungry, and that's something you can't really fix short of underclocking. My recommendation, if you're technically proficient, is to disassemble the thing and apply new thermal paste to the CPU heatsink. Do the same if there's a heatsink for the video card, those can get just as warm if you play any games.

Maybe there's a program causing 100% cpu load or something that blocks the powermanagement.
