Nomination time!

Not sure if this will be accepted, but it's worth a shot.

Artist: MISSILE CHEWBACCA
Album: Speedking Presents 8bit Rave
Title: S.I.D - sex initial drive -
Track: 2 (of 14)
Year: 2009
Source: SPK03 | SPEEDKING PRESENTS 8bit RAVE - VGMdb
Additional Info/Justification: Shoes, a member of MISSILE CHEWBACCA, composed for Let's Tap, so I figured it'd be OK to include the unit as a nomination.

Will upload to the FTP later.

Shoes, a member of Missile Chewbacca, composed for Let's Tap, so I figured it'd be OK to include the unit as a nomination.
Did Shoes work alone, and has he done other games? Frankly it seems a bit iffy to include an entire group (awesome as their name may be) because one of their members did one game once (especially if he was a member of a team).

Since I'm posting anyway, let's have the earliest vote I've done in months:

5 Sound Album 'yukar' - soldiers Doesn't sound soldiery at all, but it's quite nice. The woodwinds and acoustic guitar in particular are lovely.

CHAOSFIELD SOUND TRACK - coccus -phase 2- Sorry, I just can't get into this one at all. Heavy electronic beats and stock techno effects do not a song make, no matter how skillfully they're wielded.

Flower - Original Soundtrack from the Video Game - Sailing on the Wind Like the previous works by this composer that've been featured here, this is airy, melodic music of the highest order. You can hear the game's main theme woven throughout, but the best part is the feeling of carefree beauty it creates.

Mickey's Speedway USA (N64 Game Rip) - New Mexico Much better than last week's Mickey's Speedway entrant, with decent melody and the requisite sense of drive needed in a racer. Vaguely reminds me of the SNES version of Rainbow Road, actually.

Poco Dopo Mezzanotte Enchanted Music - Original Complete Soundtrack for A Quiet Weekend in Capri - Arena - live This game provoked some hilarious reviews, but the music is surprisingly good considering how amateurish the rest of the production looked. Eventually the lack of a real melodic hook bogs it down, but there's some good fusion ambiance to be had.

Princess Knights Original Soundtrack and Arrange - Crash The piano's excellent here, and playing a nice strong melody.Only a weirdly warped (and frankly annoying) beginning and interlude spoil the fun.

Technictix Remix Vol. 3 - Blue shackles Voices whispering "yes," loungy atmosphere and brass, come-ons in a robot voice...this sounds like high-class porno music. Not necessarily a bad thing, but there it is.

Trine Original Soundtrack - Crypt of The Damned This song really turned me off of Mitsuda's "Forest of Illusion" from Haka no Niwa by revealing that its best parts were stock loops which are utilized here in full. Beyond that, the meat of the song is a pretty, and melancholy, bit of melody.

The Point Spread
Sailing on the Wind - 3 pts.
Soldiers - 1 pt.
Crash - 1 pt.
Crypt of the Damned - 1 pt.
Just missed: New Mexico, Arena

5 Sound Album 'yukar' - soldiers is a typically memorable and emotional instrumental from Jun Maeda. The interplay between the maracas, flute, strings and guitar is absolutely captivating and conveys a lovely sense of regret, longing and determination. It helps that the melody almost exceeds the composer's usual standards, which is no mean feet.

I don't mind CHAOSFIELD SOUND TRACK - coccus -phase 2-, though it's not something I'd go out of my way to listen to or something I'd give points to in a videogame music weekly event. Still, I like the drive and melody, even if it does get terrible repetitive (needed a break in the middle or something).

I need to be in just the right mood to get into this Diamante guy's music. Can't say I'm in the right mood at the moment. Flower - Original Soundtrack from the Video Game - Sailing on the Wind meanders more than it delivers (save for the ending, which is really nice), my primary problem with the music from Flower, and is just not fun or enjoyable for active listening purposes. Pleasant, but entirely insubstantial.

Mickey's Speedway USA (N64 Game Rip) - New Mexico has a strange melody and I'm not sure whether I like or dislike it. The rest of the track pushes it into positive territory, however, with a bouncy, engaging and off-the-wall development between the loops.

Poco Dopo Mezzanotte Enchanted Music - Original Complete Soundtrack for A Quiet Weekend in Capri - Arena - live has a oddly muted and passive sound which I can't really get behind, and there aren't really any hooks to hold onto. The acoustic guitar is nice with its ethnic flavour, though when the synth came in at 2:08 I was really left scratching my head with this one. :/

I'm a huge Hideki Yamamoto fan, why have I not heard of this soundtrack release. Princess Knights Original Soundtrack and Arrange - Crash is neat, interesting and memorable all in one swiftly satisfying package. Good stuff!

Technictix Remix Vol. 3 - Blue shackles is sexy, sensual and cheesy all at the same time (which would make for an odd sex experience). The jazz organ licks are great when they appear, and help keep the song alive for the most part. Overall though, despite the intriguing mood presented, I can't say I like the music a great deal.

wow I didn't know that about "Forest of Illusion", that is a shame (though really doesn't diminish its awesomeness in any way). Reminds me of the percussion loop found in both Mitsuda's "Old Smudged Map" and SimCity 4's "Terrain". In any case, I'm surprised by how much I like Trine Original Soundtrack - Crypt of The Damned; it's the first Trine piece I've truly enjoyed. Gorgeous atmosphere and a heart-wrenching tone and melody. Music box finish seems to satirise the whole piece though, argh I wish it weren't included.

sex and music boxes? in MY point?!

3 points: 5 Sound Album 'yukar' - soldiers
2 points: Princess Knights Original Soundtrack and Arrange - Crash
1 point: Trine Original Soundtrack - Crypt of The Damned
4th: Mickey's Speedway USA (N64 Game Rip) - New Mexico (sorry )
5th: CHAOSFIELD SOUND TRACK - coccus -phase 2-
6th: Technictix Remix Vol. 3 - Blue shackles
7th: Flower - Original Soundtrack from the Video Game - Sailing on the Wind
8th: Poco Dopo Mezzanotte Enchanted Music - Original Complete Soundtrack for A Quiet Weekend in Capri - Arena - live

Good week! I'm so hunting down the Princess Knights soundtrack now by the way. Trine..eh, I still need more good stuff, to be sold.

How ya doing, buddy?

Last week was some pretty good nomination hustle, but we're still pretty low (four folks this week are repeat offenders from last week), so more nominations would be greatly appreciated. Always appreciated.

Also re. MISSILE CHEWBACCA (it must be typeset in all caps, that's the law), Shoes composed four tracks of twenty from Let's Tap, and there were eight other composers. MISSILE CHEWBACCA as a group is credited for at least three songs, and probably only those three, in No More Heroes 2: Bringing Down the House, Dynamite Rocket, and Convulsive Madness. That's another small contribution to a soundtrack with a lot of artists. I believe that's the extent of their VGM compositions, but they aren't very forthcoming about their game works on their website, unfortunately.

I was speaking idiomatically.

(3 points) Flower - Original Soundtrack from the Video Game - Sailing on the Wind: Fine, okay, I'll download the Flower soundtrack. After this and the track in the BSC10 contest, I'm in love. I wish movie soundtracks were equally beautiful and memorable as this.

(2 points) 5 Sound Album 'yukar' - soldiers: Seems like we're in the 'beautiful' wheelhouse this week. This is another track that pulls off its airy ambience nicely.

(1 point) Princess Knights Original Soundtrack and Arrange - Crash: I know it's not him, but this definitely Kikuta-esque.

Strong week all around.

Last point could have gone to a number of tracks, but there was certainly a clear distinction between the top 2 tracks and the rest of the fluff this week.

ALRIGHT SO ANYWAY

The MISSILE CHEWBACCA situation is similar to the ARM situation from last year, with a guy with five (maybe six, probably five) total pieces composed for video games. We let that one through, although the nomination queue situation was a little more dire than it is now. Not that we're rolling in nominations now or anything.

I've always been on the liberal side of this issue so I don't have any objections, and there hasn't been any complaining since orion's first post (bless him for actually bringing this sort of thing up), so whatever. Let's go with it.

I'm not really sure what that piano's doing in Crash. Or, really, for that matter, what anything is doing in Crash. At least the beats are pretty gIT'S TOO BAD SHE WON'T LIVE

Tracks like Blue shackles that show off Saso's tops-of-VGM jazz writing skills make me seriously question my belief that Hosoe is the best composer in SuperSweep.

I feel like I've heard that muted trumpet part in Blue Shackles sampled somewhere else too, but I can't think of it.

Strange week, though still pretty good. Not feeling up to full comments this week, so:

3 points: New Mexico
1 point: Sailing on the Wind
1 point: coccus –phase 2
1 point: Blue shackles
Just missed: soldiers, Arena-live

I really liked parts of the just missed tunes, though. With a bit of refinement, both could’ve been something special.

Diamante’s style is tops. The second section of Sailing on the Wind was wowowowowow

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Different music for different people. I agree it's not mind-blowing, yet I like how it mixes Middle-Eastern and '70s prog rock genres, even emulating the low fidelity recording quality of the era. Not coming from a big name composer or a soundtrack of the year is often more difficult for a song to do good in SotW, but I believe it's the essence of the event and it's worth the risk of nominating underdogs.

Even though I was already familiar with it, I'm happy that this track from Flower won, I really enjoyed that soundtrack and game!
