(Space) Flight Sims...

I just bought a new joystick, after not being able to use my old MS Sidewinder Pro for the last several years, since 2002, actually. Question that came to mind, other than Darkstar One, is there any newer space sims worth playing? But, that doesn't have crappy Copy-Protection like DSO?

Overall, I am in the mood for any flight sim games, but it seems all the ones I have looked into are entirely way too over my head and complicated. If you know of a decent one, or where one can purchase Freespace 2 at a reasonable price, please let me know!

EDIT: Damn, wouldn't you know that while I am not particularly looking for it, I would end up finding Freespace 2 for cheap. Oh well, the question remains, any decent flight sims out there?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

The Space Flight Sim is an unfortunately dead genre. If you've ever heard of Tachyon: The Fringe it's worth a looksee.

There is, however, a new space sim on the horizon called Space Force 2 that's coming down the line at some point. I've got so many reservations about the thing, though, that I should be getting casino money. If you've never heard of the original Space Force, it's because it was an entirely different game. Making the transition from crappy top-down shooter to open-ended exploratory space sim is more than pretty ambitious for a no-name Croat developer.

They've also got a translator who's supposed to be fluent in English, but they must not pay him much, because he hasn't told them yet that "fight" isn't the only word for combat. Be prepared for galactic conflict filled with fight.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Freespace 2 is now open source and you can dowload it at www.the-underdogs.org.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yeah it is, unfortunately! What a bummer too, I love the genre...

As for Tachyon: The Fringe, was looking into that, but stopped since such older games seem to give me more problems getting them to run these days. Probably will give it a shot regardless if the price is decent though.

Hmmm, sounds like my kind of game. Will look for more info and see if it's worth picking up once it's released. Thanks for the heads-up!

Oh well, as long as it's good and cheap, I'll be there!

Freespace 2 is now open source and you can dowload it at www.the-underdogs.org.
Yeah, noticed that just a few days after buying it. Still would have purchased it, but the timing is funny since I would have downloaded it if I hadn't found such a great deal for a legit retail copy...

There are a lot of good FreeSpace 2 mods showing up so its good to have it. Google it and you'll find some really great mods. They've added a ton of new stuff to them, shaders, planetary levels, and all kinds of stuff. !!!

I was speaking idiomatically.
