Kaillera Play (MAME emulation)

I was just wondering if anyone is into this scene:
Playing stuff like King of Fighters or Metal Slug online, using the Kaillera client for MAME? I think the newest version so far is HKv14.

Only a couple of hassles may pop up like incompatibility when both people aren't using the same version, or packed servers, but otherwise it's pretty good.

Note: Feel free to delete or close, if this kind of thing is discouraged like at Gamefaqs.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Considering that MAME updates like every two days, I'm not too fond on updating it. The most used version you'll see is 0.64, or hacked variants of it.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Yea I play on MAME all the time. I normally play the Street Fighter games such as Alpha 2 Gold, MSH vs SF, XvSF, MSH etc etc... However, I sometimes indulge in the SNK games like KoF and SVC Chaos.

Most of the 'scene' though take that whole thing too seriously. Some practice non-stop on it, as if it's a job. Pretty redundant to me.

How ya doing, buddy?

Yeah it's rather hard to find someone who won't decimate me in the first 10 seconds with a perfect counter for my every move. Sometimes they'll just play around, but you can see that they're really holding back from what they are capable of

I've kept the 0.32 and hkv14, but I don't know if Neomame will be beneficial in the compatibility category for me. SSV works on v14, but my Twinkle Star Sprites and Waku Waku 7 don't seem to.

haha "like at gamefaqs." that phrase makes me laugh. Eh I was gonna make a thread asking what Kaleira client is, but I'm guessing since people play stuff like Marvel vs Capcom over the net with it, that its an arcade emulation thing or something. when I'm off this crap terminal I'm prolly gonna have a hand at it x.x if I can get a comp control. fighting games online whenever I want it sounds like some sort of wet dream

Is there any lag that interferes with the gameplay and precision?

I was speaking idiomatically.

Only if the connection speed on both sides is bad, and when the game momentarily hiccups or pauses too frequently. Surprisingly it's still pretty good with a little lag, considering the precision and timing needed in fighting games.

I am guessing you can't react on frame data or anything with it? that may be seen as a bad thing by some, and as a good thing by others, because it kills competetive analyzing and makes the game more pure to what it was intended for.

However, a top tourney player I know (who plans to go to Evo this year and plays counterstrike quite well too) said that frame analysis can add to gameplay due to having to constantly adjust to an opponents attacks. I don't frame analyze, I feel its not my sort of playstyle to enjoy, but its not possible anyway, right?

lag isn't bad at all. It adds to the suspense and the drama, you never know whats going to happen >_<
I play mame all the time but the game thats worth playing is street fighter alpha 3. I have kof 98, 02, 03, metal slug 1-3, x-men, mvc, xvs, and some others as well. SFA3 is where its at though, MAME rules ^_^
It's not worth updating though since 0.64 is the best you can get.

Is Kawaks a good emulator to use? It seems more user friendly.

I guess this site can help you with mame. I never gave kawaks a shot since mame does a good job for me anyway.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I usually stick with Kawaks to play most fighting games. That includes SVC Chaos as well. Mame gets annoying when you gotta set up stuff over and over.

Kawaks is great though I can't change button config with the gamepad. I"m using a 360 controller. Any way around that?
