Right.

Before there were talks of making the game take place in America to appeal to the audience.

Glad they didn't go with that though, it wouldn't really fit with the theme, although if they went with their original choice of American locale it could be justified.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Any progress reports, people? From what I've read, this game is fantastic. Also, how's the music? Does it work well in context?

Day Four, haven't gotten extremely far in it yet. Music fits the mood incredibly well too.

I finished it the other day. It's a pretty solid game, but the story kinda doesn't really touch enough on certain issues, so you're left not knowing things you should know. They do clear this up in some after game stuff (I won't spoil), but I think they should have just made the game longer and included more plot.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I finally picked this game up, and I cannot for the life of me multi-task these damn battles. Hopefully I'll get used to it soon, since I'm only at the start of day two.

As far as the story goes, Shiki shows an odd amount of patience with whiny-bitchboy, Neku. I really hope he doesn't stay this way, since I'm not looking for Squall Redux.

EDIT: Ohhh, I can control the second character at any time. I thought I could only do that when the D-pad commands popped up, but that only happens when it goes into Auto (and it was pissing me off that it took control right when the commands popped up). It's begun barraging me with tutorials and info screens, and I'm starting to see how deep the customization is going to be.

Should be fun.

Anybody else think the learning curve is a bit steep?

Very akward. Just got the game, and I love the style and music, but the gameplay is really making it hard to not put it down because I just don't get it.

That's the problem with the gameplay. It's a different learning curve for everyone because it depends on how good you are at multi tasking. You can put your partner on auto with 3 different speeds. You will benefit nowhere near as much as when you manually control him/her though.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I got pretty used to the top-screen controls, but I prefer to button-mash in the direction of the enemy (at least with Shiki, not sure about Joshua or Beat yet) and focus wholly on what's going on with Neku. My best clothes also happen to give Star bonuses, so I can get away with it and still get those Combo special moves about a third of the time.

Honestly, though? The best RPG to come out in years. I'm rather surprised that this came from the guys who made Chain of Memories.

I still largely ignore the top screen. I've gotten to the point where my pins are strong enough that I can whoop ass with Neku and let Skiki run support. I'm chaining battles and pulling down star ratings, so I haven't found a need to manage both screens yet.

I'm on Day 7 right now. I hope I find some new pins, since I've fully levelled up everything I own. So far, the combo of Ice Risers, Onikiri, Murasame and Fuji Yama pins has been extremely effective in battle. I'm ripping through fights like mad.

I'm not gonna say this is the best RPG in a while but it's strangely compelling at least.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm on day 5 leveling up some pins that have branching evolutions. A bit time-consuming when I have to level through Mingle PP, but it's manageable. Making an Angel Magnum at the moment.

I can't think of an RPG I've enjoyed this much in almost all aspects (Pokemon Diamond was definitely up there, but that's enjoyable for entirely unique reasons), which is why I'm making that kind of claim.

For me it was the music that kept me interested in the game, since the top screen combat was rather tedious (until I figured out that putting Combo Panel -1 is a good thing for Joshua) and my touchscreen is a bit weird, so attacking with Neku was rough for some Pins.

Post-Game is just severely screwing me. I suppose I should eat a ton of food to pump stats.

Now, for me, the soundtrack is the least compelling part of the game. It's hugely repetitive and monotonous, and like most J-Pop I've heard, it's just... not good music.

Only around 7 of the 43 tracks (US ver) in the game are actually worth listening to anyway. Although I'm more attracted to the beats in the music than the weird j-pop (or in the rare case the 2 songs come up, rap) lyrics that they have.

Just finished recalibrating my touchscreen, so I have more control over Neku now.

My wallet is going to be shot to hell buying the food to increase stats.

-> Battle PP -> Shut Down PP -> Battle PP -> Shut Down PP

I think I got that evolution chain right...

Go to Cadoi City [Darling Designs - Natural Puppy] and drop 3500 yen on a Happy Beam to start it off.

Evolution with SDPP and MPP is different, as they count 9x as much as BPP on the pp bar. A little goes a long way sort of thing.

(as in 200 SDPP vs 900 BPP, SDPP becomes dominant and if it could evolve via SDPP it does)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yes, I just found a nice Pin Primer. I had no idea it was this complicated. Now I need another Masamune and Happy Beam.

A question: I don't really have any contact with other DSes. How the hell am I supposed to acquire Mingle PP?

1) Nintendo Channel -> DS Download Service, fire up Mingle Mode in TWEWY. Should count as a Civvie for 20 MPP each time you turn on and off Mingle Mode. Requires a Nintendo Wii with the Nintendo Channel (Europe is out of luck until the end of the month?)

2) Turn on Mingle Mode, plug in the DS and leave it on overnight. Should wake up to find an alien or two. Takes a while since Aliens are random, but count as 100 MPP.

ESP'ers = People with this game who are actively in Mingle Mode. Worth 50 MPP (450 PP in terms of Evolution).
Civvies = People with a DS doing something wireless (Pictochat, trading pokemon, etc). Worth 20 MPP (180 PP in terms of Evolution).
Aliens = Randomly given to you by the game. Worth 100 MPP (900 PP in terms of Evolution).

Nintendo Channel was released 05.07.08 in USA and costs 0 Wii Points and takes up 123 Blocks.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I just steal a DS, leave it in Pictochat, then continuously enter and exit Mingle mode. It's slow, but it works.

For those with absolutely no access, there's only Aliens.

Leveling up pins via BPP has proven to be the most absolutely boring endeavor in any RPG I've played to date. This could be because I simply can't stand Joshua and his combo system.

The Pin List sure is nice to have on hand, though. I was wondering why my shit wasn't evolving after I had mastered it.

You know, it'd be nice if a person could leave his DS connected to the Nintendo wi-fi, via the USB adapter, and earn Mingle points that way.

I wonder if this is possible.
