Oh yeah, we were talking about doing regular theme weeks, right? Seemed like people were getting behind that. Let me paste a run-on sentence I said last week:

The week containing Christmas will be Week 195, so we can do a Christmas themed one then, although that'll delay One Minute of Heaven II: One Minute HARDER, unless we sneak it in in the next couple of weeks and do two theme weeks in one batch (not something I am opposed to).

I want to nominate a song from the freeware independent game Iji. This track is ripped straight from the game's files, yet it's labeled as a "Bonus Song". I haven't played through the entire game so I don't know where/if it plays. Do you think I can still nominate it?

sup guys, figured I oughta get back into my semi-active-in-SotW habit. My life has been pretty bland without the added spice of sweet obscure game music discoveries. ::noonecares::

Reflector pretty much wipes the floor with the other tracks this week. I also enjoyed the Hollywood Monsters and Batman tracks, although not nearly as much. Here's a reflective (hr hr?) point spread:

3 pts - DESIRE "THE ORIGIN" - RYU UMEMOTO RARE TRACKS Vol.2 - Reflector (Unlimited)
2 pts - Hollywood Monsters (Game Rip) - Enigmas
1 pt - Batman (TG-16 Game Rip) - Stage Areas 1-3

I was speaking idiomatically.

Nomination!

Album: Sing!! Street Fighter II Instrumental Version
Composer: Seiji Toda
Track Title: masked narcissist [BALROG]
Track Number: 10
Year: 1993
Catalog Number: PCCB-00114
Additional Notes: Stupid Japanese can't tell the difference between Balrog, Vega and M.Bison. This song belongs to Vega, despite the title's indication otherwise.

Question: When can we begin to make any nominations for the Christmas theme week?

What is an initially jarring chiptune quickly becomes a decently catchy romp. Batman (TG-16 Game Rip) - Stage Areas 1-3 is a track best listened to on the lower volume setting, and is pretty fun all in all.

DESIRE "THE ORIGIN" - RYU UMEMOTO RARE TRACKS Vol.2 - Reflector (Unlimited) is, for me, largely generic and uninteresting, but has the occasion spark of creative flair. Sadly those sparks are few and far between, shading my ultimate impression a rather garish colour.

Elebest (Game Rip) - Stage has an eerily enticing sound to it. It's a unique fusion of sounds and voices, with the final product leaving me wanting more rather than being thoroughly turned off. I don't really know why, but I like this one! The jazzy piano lick is particularly cool, albeit disappointingly brief.

I'm afraid I just can't get behind Hollywood Monsters (Game Rip) - Enigmas. I'm not a fan of what it's doing, or at least trying to do, and the song just comes across as lethargic and dull to me. Vocals grate on me a bit, too.

MadBalls in... Babo: Invasion (Game Rip) - Ice 2 has a fantastic build during the opening minute, but there's a bit of an extended trough before things pick up again. I don't really have any major complaints though, as all of this works well together to create a very pleasing whole.

Ristar (Game Rip) - Ring Rink is solid Ristar music, and in the scale of music as a whole, that means it's pretty damn good. Melodically it's absolutely charming, and it coincidentally makes a nice prelude to the Yuletide week with its starry, icy sounds and glitches. Warm and fuzzy; chilly and sharp---wonderful track.

The Sketches of Moondays ~We Kept Our Promise To You~ - BLUE is, as usual, quality Moon music. Gotta dig the spacey atmosphere and the starry melodic arpeggios or whatever they are.

Well this isn't the sort of track I expected given the source. Touhou Hisoutensoku ~ Chase the Enigma of the Superdreadnought Guignol (Game Rip) - The Eternal Steam Engine, as well as being from a game with a seemingly fantastic name, is pretty spectacular in its short-lived splendor. I don't think it realises its full potential in this brief timeframe however so that may restrict it in terms of points. But it's a very nice piece regardless, especially with the train touch towards the end.

this POINT is grating and jarring, but you could also say it's warm and fuzzy...

2 points: Ristar (Game Rip) - Ring Rink
1 point: The Sketches of Moondays ~We Kept Our Promise To You~ - BLUE
1 point: MadBalls in... Babo: Invasion (Game Rip) - Ice 2
1 point: Elebest (Game Rip) - Stage
1 point: Touhou Hisoutensoku ~ Chase the Enigma of the Superdreadnought Guignol (Game Rip) - The Eternal Steam Engine
6th: Batman (TG-16 Game Rip) - Stage Areas 1-3
7th: DESIRE "THE ORIGIN" - RYU UMEMOTO RARE TRACKS Vol.2 - Reflector (Unlimited)
8th: Hollywood Monsters (Game Rip) - Enigmas

Pretty decent week. Only one real clunker for me, and lots of keepers!

2 points: Ring Rink
2 points: Ice 2
1 point: Blue
1 point: Reflector (Unlimited)
Just missed: Enigmas, Stage

Getting in my points and nom in today so I don't miss my chance like last week. Some great tunes this week. Blue is one of the... odder tunes from an already odd soundtrack, and more importantly, it's one of the more memorable tunes from a great, well varied soundtrack; definetely deserves it's due.

Also, even though I'm very familiar with Ring Rink, only now did I get some very strong Huelsbeck vibes from the bass line at 0:43. Nice.

---

My next nom:

Game: #ModArchive Story
Composer: Peter "Decibelter" Enroth
Track: Music Madness - Part 1
Track #: n/a
Catalog #: n/a
Year: 2004 (according to the date modified files)
Sources: Index of /files/Music/GameOST, Index of /files/Games (MAS.zip), Amiga Music Preservation - Decibelter
Additional Info: This was one of the first songs to come to mind when I saw the <60 second week proposed. It's 1:01 time made it ineligible.

Will be uploading to the FTP shortly.

EDIT: Changed the title of the nom to Music Madness - Part 1 (even though it plays during the 2nd part of the stage) to coincide with the title used at the Niffpage. "The Good Melody" came from a title in another MP3 I had from that other (now defunct) Nifflas fanpage that existed a while back.

Batman (TG-16 Game Rip) - Stage Areas 1-3
I could tell right off the bat that this one's got a nice beat, man!

DESIRE "THE ORIGIN" - RYU UMEMOTO RARE TRACKS Vol.2 - Reflector (Unlimited)
Umemoto can be awesome, as was displayed in "Opening -VOID mix-" a few months ago. "Reflector (Unlimited)" is a good tune, yet I'm not as intensely thrilled as I have been before. The harmony is great, yet if the melodies would have been stronger, this track would have received 3 points.

Elebest (Game Rip) - Stage
Good potential, but too short and underdeveloped to leave a permanent mark.

Hollywood Monsters (Game Rip) - Enigmas
Oh! Sax! Ah! Organ! Argh... mediocre vocals.

MadBalls in... Babo: Invasion (Game Rip) - Ice 2
Oh God, they revived the Madballs franchise? Interesting atmosphere, but lacking in the melodic department to become really memorable. And nice move with the winter nomination, I should dig up and come up with some on my side too. Anyone have snow yet where you live? The weather predictions for this week here show snow precipitations for most days.

Ristar (Game Rip) - Ring Rink
Ristar has a cool soundtrack. But I already knew about that.

The Sketches of Moondays ~We Kept Our Promise To You~ - BLUE
Hmm, on one hand this is a well-constructed piece with many alluring elements, yet on the other, there is a certain heaviness in the mood that somewhat hampers it from being really exciting.

Touhou Hisoutensoku ~ Chase the Enigma of the Superdreadnought Guignol (Game Rip) - The Eternal Steam Engine
A tad short, but great for the time it lasts. The bagpipe felt odd at first, yet it fits somehow.

(3 points) Batman (TG-16 Game Rip) - Stage Areas 1-3
(1 point) DESIRE "THE ORIGIN" - RYU UMEMOTO RARE TRACKS Vol.2 - Reflector (Unlimited)
(1 point) MadBalls in... Babo: Invasion (Game Rip) - Ice 2

A pretty good week. I liked most everything in one way or another. The only disappointment was the Madballs track. The melancholy tone combined with the lack of a true melody was a formula for boredom.

I don't really see this as being terribly different from nominating bonus tracks on official soundtracks, so I think I'm okay with it. Plus, it would be pretty silly to include a music track that's not actually used anywhere in the game with the download.

Yikes, forgot to vote. Here's how I would have distributed my points in any case (turns out it was much harder than anticipated thanks to many strong nominations):

(2 points) The Sketches of Moondays ~We Kept Our Promise To You~ - BLUE
Some minor quibbles but otherwise a very, very cool track! I really like how it develops.

(2 points) DESIRE 'THE ORIGIN' - RYU UMEMOTO RARE TRACKS Vol.2 - Reflector (Unlimited)
Great melody and arrangement!

(1 point) Elebest (Game Rip) - Stage
Short and sweet.

(1 point) MadBalls in... Babo - Invasion (Game Rip) - Ice 2
Really liked the atmosphere to this one.

Points I wish I had for the following: Ristar, and Touhou Hisoutensoku.

Well I was slightly wrong. It's not technically included with the actual game files but it was made specifically for the game. To clarify, one zip file includes the game files and low quality versions of the music, and then there is a separate zip file with high quality versions of the music that is intended to directly replace the low quality versions. The bonus track is only in the high quality pack, and there is text that states: "This song was produced together with the rest of the soundtrack, but didn't make it into the final release."

So, if that's OK with you, I present the following:

=== Kaleb.G ===
* Album: Iji soundtrack
* Artist: Chris Geehan & Dan Byrne McCullough
* Composer: ---
* Disc #: N/A
* Track #: 22 (of 22)
* Track Title: Organ Smash [or optionally "Bonus Track: Organ Smash"]
* Catalogue Number: N/A
* Year: 2008
* Additional Info:
Quote:
22. Bonus song: Organ Smash
Chris Geehan & Dan Byrne McCullough
Notes: Only included in the high-quality soundtrack. This song was produced together with the rest of the soundtrack, but didn't make it into the final release.
* Source: Daniel's base
* File Location: nom folder

If you're still iffy, I revert back to my pre-1min nomination idea.

P.S. I feel bad about not getting around to voting, but I didn't have any easy winners TBQH. Blue might have been my top pick but it was close.
