I supposing I will to be make with the nomination:
  • Artist: Kouhei Tanaka
  • Album Title: The Granstream Saga Original Sound Track
  • Track Title: To Those Who Challenge Fate (Ending A)
  • Disc Number: 1 (of 1)
  • Track Number: 5
  • Catalog Number: FSCA-10029
  • Year: 1998
  • Additional Information: This track is too short and has this huge section in the middle where nothing happens, but worst of all, it's absolutely perfect.
  • Source: FSCA-10029: The Granstream Saga Original Sound Track - VGMdb

I don't really oppose the nominations since they're already up and relatively obscure (to me at least), but aren't NeoGeo Battle Coliseum and KoF XI relatively recent games? Less than 6 months at least.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

The U.S. release is. The original Japanese release was in 2005. We actually had an earlier nom from it in 2006.

May as well get the old ball rollin'~

Darius Remix - MUSE VALLEY (Mercury Scene) was really long, but it managed to keep me interested for a good 80% of the runtime. I can really get into the kind of electronica showcased here, with a fluctuation in pace and some decent downtempo sections. Appropriately thrilling, and appropriately chilling.

Ever since I first started joining in on the SotW fun, I've encountered many pieces like NeoGeo Battle Coliseum (PS2 Game Rip) - Antenna Stage. Not saying that's a bad thing, as I enjoy a good dose of energetic synth-rock, but one day my tolerability's gonna snap! Anywho, like I said this is pretty decent, as the melodies are memorable enough and the progressions send a little jolt up my spine to keep me awake...(was that a + or - review? I don't know)

Onimusha Tactics (Game Rip) - Battle Phase BGM4 has a bit more musical substance compared to the previous track. Some well thought-out sounds and a solid manipulation of the painstaking militaristic feel present. Although I've gotta admit I was a bit disappointed in the B section of this one (0:40 odd).

Street Fighter EX2 Plus Original Soundtrack - PHANTOM BOMB ~ Airport Stage sounds...kind of similar to the track I heard a few moments ago...*back quivers* I'm assuming my man Yack didn't compose this piece; that just leaves three Supersweep members (and this Takayuki Aihara dude). I never really cared for those folk, and I certainly don't care much for this composition. Generic, with very few/ineffectual hooks.

IS IT ROCK?! OMG YES IT IS! I usually like Syntaro Jinbo stuff, so it comes to me as a huge disappointment that this is so...so...I'unno, uneventful? The Alternate Phantom - ZIZZ Original Sound Tracks for Phantom of Inferno - Glass City has some decent sounds and whisper-voices going on for it, but it never really comes together to create a solid tune.

Oh it's more rock somebody get me a knife. (I don't mean to be so cynical, dudes, it's just listening to these in succession is trying my patience~!) The King of Fighters XI (PS2 Game Rip) - In High Gear (Gai Tendo's Theme) is pretty much cookie-cutter stuff. It's got those rock sounds we've heard a thousand times before, and a standard melody. Although the percussion in this one kicks ass, that was definitely the saving grace!

*winces in pain*--oh cool it's To Heart music! I love most things Leaf-related, especially when the words "To" or "Heart" are attached to the release. I've yet to check out the secret soundtrack, and from what I can gather here, I should definitely remedy that. ToHeart2 SECRET SOUND TRACK - Mismatched Communication has a refreshingly bubbly melody with some totally non-serious sounds and developments. What a little charmer.

ESTi!!! Vanity Rouge - shearing stress comes from that original works release, doesn't it? Needless to say, given it's ESTi, this song is way above average. I love the virtually ineffable stuff going on here. The sound effects, the percussion, the vocals (sort of...) and the overall glitchiness/bloopiness. Makes me think of the night for some reason. *shrugs*

ROCK points ROCK

2 points: ToHeart2 SECRET SOUND TRACK - Mismatched Communication
2 points: Vanity Rouge - shearing stress
2 points: Darius Remix - MUSE VALLEY (Mercury Scene)
4th: The King of Fighters XI (PS2 Game Rip) - In High Gear (Gai Tendo's Theme)
5th: NeoGeo Battle Coliseum (PS2 Game Rip) - Antenna Stage
6th: Onimusha Tactics (Game Rip) - Battle Phase BGM4
7th: The Alternate Phantom - ZIZZ Original Sound Tracks for Phantom of Inferno - Glass City
8th: Street Fighter EX2 Plus Original Soundtrack - PHANTOM BOMB ~ Airport Stage

Too much seriousness in this week's group. >=| As such, I didn't like it. Sorry people for being such a scrooge.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I must've been drunk when I nominated or something, as Antenna Stage is far from my favorite from this soundtrack. It's still pretty good, I especially like the bit with the guitar lead and synthlead going together... But I don't know, it's not really something I'd normally nominate. I kinda feel like I have to apologize for it. The strange thing is there are much better tracks on this soundtrack.

"Fortunately", the rest of the tracks are also not so great. I like the leads in the To Heart thing but it kinda doesn't go anywhere for me, and the other tracks are all kinda bland as well. Nothing mindblowingly bad, mind, just nothing spectacular either. The resulting votes are a bit of a crapshoot.

Anyway, here they are:

2 points - NeoGeo Battle Coliseum (PS2 Game Rip) - Antenna Stage
2 points - ToHeart2 SECRET SOUND TRACK - Mismatched Communication

1 point - The King of Fighters XI (PS2 Game Rip) - In High Gear (Gai Tendo's Theme)
1 point - Vanity Rouge - shearing stress

Gaah, this week was very bland. I almost passed on voting altogether until one song finally appealed to me.

3 Points: ToHeart2 SECRET SOUND TRACK - Mismatched Communication
2 Points: Vanity Rouge - shearing stress
1 Point: Darius Remix - MUSE VALLEY (Mercury Scene)

I wonder if nominating to the BSC influenced people to put less interesting tracks up for SotW.

I nominated befo--... Uh, I mean: yes! Yes that's exactly it.

Anyway, here's a new nomination, and hopefully I won't regret this one in a couple weeks.

Composer: Chamy Ichikawa
Title: Track 02 (2SF rip)
Game: Cooking Mama
Year: 2006
Download link here!

If anyone knows a more descriptive title for this track, feel free to add it, as far as I know the 2SF rip is all we have, and it's not tagged in any way.

I'm pretty much on the same boat as surasshu. My nominations for both this week and the BSC were pretty much impulse. I think I just happened to be listening to the songs while I was thinking about what to nominate. Oh well.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
Check out my original music at my Soundcloud page!

Latest music rips (updated January 10, 2012):

SimCity DS - Jazz/ambient/electronic music including interesting reworkings of songs from the fantastic SimCity 3000 soundtrack
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more
