Earth Defence Force 2017
Oh hey so EARTH DEFENCE FORCE X. Previously the Earth Defence Force games have been developed with a low budget as part of the Japanese Simple 2000 (because they cost 2000 yen :moreyouknow: ) range of games for PlayStation 2. But even then, they did some mind boggling stuff considering the hardware and put most big name action games to friggin' shame. Basically, you BLOW STUFF UP. You blow up ANTS and BUILDINGS and GODZILLA'S and EVERYTHING. You must defend Earth by pretty much destroying it! The scale of the game's incredible and now the developer's been able to run wild on much more powerful hardware with a bigger budget soooo here's where I post screenshots that I've shrunk down because they stretched the hell out of the internet! Long sentence GO.
Little ants aww BUT HOLY SHIT IN A BOX THEY'RE HUGE Apparently it may be co-op online, but it's still a deep space mystery (SECRET EDIT: it's not). The game's due out December in Japan, with American and PAL releases UNKNOWN at the moment. The first two EDF games on PS2 got PAL releases (well, the second one's still due out, keeps getting pushed back), but for whatever reason no publisher picked them up in America. Though I imagine since D3 recently set up over there, they'll release it eventually. MORE SECRET EDIT FUN: March for both the US and Europe! HUGE images. Video (YOU SHOULD PROBABLY JUST SKIP THE FIRST HALF UNLESS YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO A JAPANESE WOMAN MAKE BABOON NOISES) Video of EDF2 on PS2 for the hell of it because it's amazing. That actually looks kinda great. Not Gears of War great, but rather decent. I would buy it if it was cheap. (Which Xbox 360 games arent'. $90 lolol)
Running around, shooting giant robots and huge ants. Cool. And lol at the ad. I'd gag the girl and then bang her. Sooo cute <3 There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Wow giant ants; I'd kill it. That's kind of a weird enemy to be fighting.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. I didn't say I wouldn't go fishin' with the man.
All I'm sayin' is, if he comes near me, I'll put him in the wall. |
Wow, I thought that this was supposed to be like Earth Defense Force for the SNES. I was like "They actually made a sequel to that game?"
Still, looks pretty nice. I might try it sometime. How ya doing, buddy? |
Graphics look like a low-budget Lost Planet at first glance. Still, the premise does look interesting. Not something I'll be looking forward to specifically, but perhaps moreso when it is nearer to release.
How ya doing, buddy? |
Ahaha, I love how the male EDF soldier has the same generic Xbox 360 default texture-blur-glimmer-covered-in-vaseline-hello-perfect-dark-zero-effect filter as every other 360 game.
Earth Defence Force 2 was brilliant, and X looks to be even more hilarious. The scale looks absolutely fantastic. I don't even own a 360, but I can't frickin' wait. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
This looks so awesome. I loved the first two and even Sandlot's other games using the engine like Remote Control Dandy and Robot Alchemic Drive. Here's hoping for another big robot game this generation.

It's hardly a giant enemy crab, but it will do :O PROBABLY WON'T SEE IT HERE ;_; "Earth Defense Force? Fuck that, let's bring out Kingdom Farts 3/Final Fantasy 12,000 and ignore everything else~"
Then they'd shat on some Front Mission 5 box >_>; What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

I am dying to play the PS2 versions, but it is next to impossible to find! Anyone know where I could get it?

Did you try PlayAsia, NCSX, or Ebay?
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I tried playasia but only found the tactics version (i'm guessing its an RTS) and lik-sang didn't have it listed. I'll give NCSX a shot and if that fails, I might consider Ebay, but I'm hesitant. Thanks for the help!
How ya doing, buddy? |
Yeeeah, Tactics doesn't really look that thrilling. Painful load times for every battle sequence and everything. Also you could always keep a look out for Monster Attack in the pre-owned sections of EB, the PAL release of the first EDF. It got a pretty limited release, though.
How ya doing, buddy? |
EDF2 is a deserved cult classic and it always sells, so importers tend to keep it stocked pretty well. Though since you're in Australia, you could hang on and see if they finally get the PAL version released like they'd planned for a while now (as Global Defence Force). I was speaking idiomatically. |
I saw this game a few weeks ago...and it looks so ridiculous, yet it could be entertaining. I mean honestly...Godzilla! Ants! Giant Robots! You can't help but smile when you see this game. Might be a nice budget game, something you can waste a few hours with from time to time. I might have a hard time keeping myself from giggling like a schoolgirl when I play it and find myself defending the world from robots with guns bigger than skyscrapers and giant ants descending from UFOs.

I've gotta be honest, I love the concept. Not so much the giant ants, but some of the scenes in that ad look seriously insane.

They've gone and totally renamed it, changing the X to a 3. This will cause massive confusion now! There's also this new trailer. GAAAAASSSPP gigantic bloody metal thing in the distance. Oh and there's no online co-op, just split screen. =(
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
lawl @ EARTH DEFENCE FORCES
THERE MUST BE MULTIPLE FORCES, FORCE MUST BE ONLY ONE PERSON Still, no online co-op is a big bobofrownie. I would have thought the whole point of putting the series on 360 was easy multiplayer How about online splitscreen? =o Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Maybe if two people in the same room stand on a line while playing co-op. =o
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Wasn't this game supposed to be low-budget or something? It's going to be 7,100 yen. That's 1,000 yen more expensive than Blue Dragon. I wonder how well its going to do...

I wish they had online play.
You could so set this up like a hack n slash and have peeps just pop into massive battles and help you basically clear out the earth. Set up small objectives like time limits or number of kills. I see all those other guys like yours running around, so I think that would fit in nicely. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I was speaking idiomatically. |
That huge robot at the end of the trailer looks like it could fucking step on the largest of colossi.
If they aren't smart enough to release this in the US, I might actually import. I hope it's region free... What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Is this related at all to the SNES game called "Earth Defense Force"?
FELIPE NO |
The game is called The Chikyuu Boueigun (or boueigan, not sure), "Earth Defence Force" or "Terran Defence Force" is just an english name translated for it since there's no official translation as of yet. The military unit in the game is called E.D.F. which of course makes easy applying. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
BUMPAGE for the news that HELL HAS FUCKING FROZE OVER.
THIS BITCH IS US BOUND! Honestly, this game had a ONE IN A MILLION SHOT of coming here. That is HOT. I wouldn't pay $60 for it, but for a more bargain price ($30 anyone?), I would totally bite. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
