Cop 'accidentally downloaded' 8742 child porn pictures
He didn't mean to, really. He somehow accidentally purchased a $35 subscription to gay pedophile site "Sunshine Boys", and inadvertently saved 8742 images to his hard drive.
He was caught. But, "his culpability comes from his failure to get rid of it," asserted his lawyer. The judge agreed, saying that the images were accessed accidentally. As such, no jail time for our innocent (but former) police officer! Source. My take? What the hell is that judge smoking? What's your take, gentlemen? :P Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I suppose it could happen if the file were titled "Miranda Rights and Their Effect On Modern Day Law Enforcement.zip" and it took so long to download he completely forgot about it.
Oh and the subscription was identity theft. But he never knew about it until the law suit. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
The article has way too little information to even begin to assume everything in it is accurate.
It's hard to make a judgement call on that one, but I find it funny how the US government spends so much time on pedo's, even in other countries. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
If I was him, I would say that I used the shareware version of PicDownloader™.

I can't remember if it was this case or another similar one... Anyway, while the man was indeed looking at the pictures online, the pictures were found in his temporary folder which, I guess, proved that he didn't intend on possession.
I guess the judge wanted to be lenient since the defendant already pleaded guilty to possession. I was speaking idiomatically. |
