22:00 <@CHz> Oh SHIT
22:00 <@CHz> Just S ranked The Final Level. 22:00 <+Garr> Nice. I'M IN, LET'S DO THIS Fuck checkpoints, this is how real men do it. OH WHAT THE CR– There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Yeah, I was pretty much the same way, but I do love the hard-ness of this game to no end. And the soundtrack is great. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
The difficulty curve for this is great. The fact that you can do things with ease that you once thought would be impossible without deaths into triple digits.
The super gravitron seemed completely random but you gradually last longer and longer with consistency. On my second playthrough Doing Things The Hard Way only took about 10 deaths. That said, I still can't imagine doing certain things. Like trying to V rank the Lab. Can you possibly perfect the timing for I'm Sorry to bounce over the spikes to the right and then again back over to the left without a death?
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Pshaw. V ranks are easy, son.
Spoiler:
This is coming from a guy that had a pitiful first run with over 1k deaths. Though I mainly blame my crappy gamepad for that one. I subsequently switched over to keyboard controls and found out that I do a whole lot better. (And it has to be the V key. Not Z. Not up/down. Not spacebar. V!) So in theory, I could do Doing Things The Hard Way blindfolded now. |
omg this game was adoroable <3333
finished it with ~650 deaths lol. one of the last screens was a whore to beat (the one where you fall down and there are some weird obstacles falling with you). Doubt i do the time trail things but awesome indeeed <3. no homo |

I'm sorry's not that hard... although I apparently missed out on tokens by going right to the final area, which means NO 20 TOKENS FOR WVLF.
How ya doing, buddy? It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.
Touching butts had been banned by the evil Headmaster Frond. Suddenly, Tina Belcher appeared in the doorway. She knew what she had to do. She touched Jimmy Jr's butt and changed the world. |
About I'm Sorry, I found out that if you walk off the ledge from the checkpoint, you can never make it through that gap. If you flip though, you can. Not 100% positive, but I think flipping gives you a tiny boost of speed in the air, and more bounce on the gravity lines. Going back through is considerably easier. If you could line yourself dead center with the edge of the bottom platform and flip left from there, you'll make it. Speaking of bugs, there's a nasty one in Three's Company at the Final Level that also has something to do with lines. Sometimes while bouncing through the first part, Viridian goes into a flip and messes up with your timing. This made V ranking the level harder than it should be. I hear there's a patch to be released soon, hopefully fixing this along with some other issues. And adding a time trial restart key.

So how long until we have official GFF smilies from the game?
We could call it :vsmile: and :vfrowny: What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.

I have to say that looks most unfortunate, yet it's definitely impressive lasting that long. I've been playing the Super Gravitron myself ever since the update, and managed to make it up to the half minute mark. Though I still lack the skill to last longer than that. (And I'm still unsure how to use the looping sides to my advantage.)
|
I barely ever make use of that since it's best to try and remain centred. The only time I loop is when that
¦...¦...¦ ..¦...¦ pattern comes up , in which case you can skip half the pattern by bouncing off the screen and emerging on the other side. How ya doing, buddy? |

What the FUCK, dude, I hate you so much.

Loved this game. Still loving it. Only time I got majorly stuck was Not As I Do, but after much practice it's now a cakewalk. I semi cheated, ran through the game the first time on eighty percent speed. Second time on full speed I only had around 350 some deaths, and despite completing Doing Things the Hard Way my hardest room was still Gordian Knot at an attempt to get the trinket with 30 (compared to the 80% play through where I died on Veni 80 times).
Have to admit looking up the answer to the trinket on Prize for the Reckless, that had me stumped. And I'm doubtful I will ever get the one on Edge Games, which would have certainly been the hardest room for me if I had kept trying. The only bounce stage I had trouble with was Three's Company on the last stage, I can't understand the complaints over I'm Sorry. EDIT: Disregard, just found the trinket, I get it now. Favorite part of the game was when the captain became as horrified as I was over the giant technicolor elephant. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. so they may learn the glorious craft of acting from the dear leader

A bunch of you already know this, but for those who don't: Terry released version 2.0 of VVVVVV with The Humble Indie Bundle #3 last week. It's a full rewrite of the game that now includes a level editor! The editor is kind of glitchy (I've had lines of scripts and warp tokens mysteriously eaten), and scripting and other functionality is a bit limited at the moment, but you can still do quite a bit with it. I've spent pretty much all my free time lately messing with it.
NO I'M NOT MAKING A LEVEL FULL OF DEATH TRAPS WHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP SAYING THAT IT'S LIKE I HAVE A REPUTATION FOR BEING A DICK So anyway, since it's going to take me like three months to finish this thing at the rate I'm going, by which time fifteen thousand people will have independently used all my level ideas, I'll have plenty of time to crank the two new music tracks SoulEye wrote. Oh yeah! That's right, I forgot to mention that in the opening paragraph! The game has two new themes that you can use in custom levels! Here are some quicko extractions I made with some random code I found on the internet. I didn't loop them because that would've taken a whole five seconds and do I look like I have that sort of time, I'm busy placing spikes here. Hopefully SoulEye will provide the extra tracks in GLORIOUS FLAC at some point in the future. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Oh hey. I hear awesome music. Buying game solely on this factor.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
It's why I bought it after it won BSC 2010.

Piercing the Sky is my new favorite song from the game by far.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
So I was cleaning out my email today, and I got an email from the guy who made VVVVVV. He sent out links to the new version to everybody who bought the game in the past two years.
How cool is that? Jam it back in, in the dark. |
WHAT'S MY NAME, BITCHES
Anyway I am here today to speak to you about SoulEye's new album, Adventure: http://www.souleye.se/adventure. It has some original pieces, a bunch of VVVVVV arrangements and other stuff he wrote for the rhythm game Pulsen, and some arrangements he provided for other folks's albums. Why am I bringing it up in this thread? Because it also has the VVVVVV 2.0 tracks, Pacing Energy and Piercing the Sky! ATTENTION COLONEL T. SKILLS MCINTERNET: TIME TO GET YOUR FLAC ON
