Good Night and Good Luck

OFFICIAL MOVIE SITE.

So this film comes out on DVD tomorrow and I never did see a thread on this movie even though it was one of the best movies that was nominated for an Oscar this year. Those of you who have seen it probably agree with me and for those of you who haven't, tomorrow might be a good time to swing out to your local video store and acquire this gem.

A bit of backstory about this film:

The film chronicles the extremely animus conflict between TV newsman Edward R. Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee in the 1950's. Murrow made a career out of exposing the 'communist witch-hunts' that McCarthy was the ring-leader of. A very public feud develops when the Senator responds by accusing the anchor of being a communist. David Straithairn plays the morally solid Murrow without flaw and his transforming performance alone is enough to warrant a view into this movie.

Shot and edited completely in black and white, this film is a film of little visual flair, but the engrossing story and tension between the subjects and the supporting cast is thick enough to slice with a scalpel. The smooth jazzy soundtrack is perfectly suited for the time period and the cinematography is crisp and well-cut. Worthy of applause for director and executive producer George Clooney.

It really is too bad that this film didn't win a single award this Oscar season, but I assure you all; this film is worth every grain in its reel.

For those of you who have seen it; what was your take on it?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Without a doubt in my mind, the best film Clooney has ever appeared in. My favourite movie of last year. I'll be grabbing this too.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Actually, Clooney won for Best Supporting Actor.

Also, I thought the black-and-white tone was some nifty visual flair myself. Less is more.

He actually won Best Supporting Actor for "Syriana", not for "Good Night and Good Luck".

I was speaking idiomatically.

My mistake. That makes a lot more sense in retrospect.

How ya doing, buddy?
