AHOY! Pirate Game music

We all enjoy certain kinds of music, either because of the melody style, instrumentation or other elements. Well, I've recently became aware of a new thematic in my tastes: pirate/sailor music! Most of it is usually quirky and cheerful, and I believe that's the best explanation, yet also for the instruments used, like the accordion, flute, guitar, strings, percussions, choir and the rest of the orchestra. But I also like some themes played by other instruments, like synthesizers or electric guitar, so it's the melody that matters the most.

Are there other people who enjoy pirate VGM? I know Teioh does because I saw him talk about it, but I'm certain there are more. Actually, the goal of this thread is of both discussing about pirate music, but also of helping me, and others, to discover more of it. I've went through my folders and I've dug up 27 decent ones, which I'll post the list of:

Age of Pirates - Caribbean Tales - Shoreless Ocean
Alone In The Dark 2 - Carnby's Execution
Baldur's Gate II- Shadows of Amn - The Pirate Isle
Claw - Claw Theme
Crash Tag Team Racing - Pirates of the Carburator
Crash Twinsanity - High Seas Hi-Jinks
Donkey Kong Country - Gang-Plank Galleon
Escape from Monkey Island - Scumm Bar
Garakuta Masterpiece Theater- Rakugaki Oukoku - The Sea
GEX 3- Deep Cover Gecko - Cutcheese Island [Buccaneer Program]
Herdy Gerdy - The Beachfarm
Heroes of Might and Magic IV - Floating Across Water
Imperial Glory - Among masts - Winds of war
Legaia DuelSaga - Pirate's Pride
Legend of Kyrandia 3 - Malcolm's Revenge - North Beach
MediEvil - Resurrection - Scurvy Docks
Pirates - The Legend of Black Kat - Repairing the Hull
Pirates! Gold CD32 - Track 21
Rascal - The Jolly Raider Pirate Ship
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 - Buccaneer
Secret of Evermore - Pirate Theme
Shadow Madness - Petit Island
Shipwreckers! - Track 01
Skullmonkeys - Sub Standard Pirate
The Curse of Monkey Island - Monkey Island Theme
Ultima V - Lazarus - Ocean Travel
Voodoo Vince - Jean Lafitte's Ship

I'd need help to find more!

When we'll have enough, a compilation could be made for those interested.

Thanks!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Yes! I don't have many to add, but I'll definitely check out the ones you've listed (it would be awesome if you uploaded them somewhere).

Sailor Town from Skies of Arcadia is good as well!

I tend to like pirate-style music as well. You've already got a sizeable list, but I'll see if I can add a few more that either fit the general style or are specific pirate-related themes:

Xenogears - Tams, The Man Of The Sea
Final Fantasy V - Pirate's Ahoy!
Suikoden V - Town on a River
Vandal Hearts II - Warfare on a Sea
Banjo Kazooie - Treasure Trove Cove & Rusty Bucket Bay
TMNT Tourament Fighters - Pirate Ship
Tactics Ogre - Breath of the Earth
Ogre Battle - Viking Spirits
Kingdom Hearts - Pirate's Gigue

This reminds me of when I made a CD composed entirely of forest themes.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Let's make a pirate music compilation and put it up for download somewhere.

Being a pirate-like game, my Elder Scrolls Redguard rip has quite a bit of pirate-like music

Thanks for all the suggestions so far! I don't have most of them on my HD, so if you could send them to me directly or upload it somewhere and then share the link, it'd be great!

That would be pretty cool! What I can propose is offering an account on my FTP server to allow people to upload and download tracks, and when we'll have a good bunch of them, we could start discussing about how the compilation should be like. For those who can't use FTP, then upload your tracks to a HTTP site and give me the download link; I'll then add them to the server. How does that sound?

Keep them coming!

YAR! What a great idea.

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker - Sailin' With Pirates
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Pirates' Fortress
Thief's (Pirate) Theme
Shadow Hearts - Pirates of the Caribbean
Legend of Heroes II - Pirate's Island
Kingdom Hearts - Captain Hook's Pirate Ship
Monkey Island 3 - A Pirate I Was Meant to be (if the compilation doesn't include this, there is no need to create it)

Not sure if this really fits the pirate theme, but here's one I found:

Diddy Kong Racing - Pirate Cove

Can't think of any others off the top of my head that haven't been mentioned.

EDIT: I'll list anything else I find:

Mario & Luigi - Oho Ocean - fits
Tsugunai - Ship Run Aground - iffy
Heroes of Might & Magic IV - Floating Across Water - maybe?

Also, I'd imagine Eternal Arcadia (aka Skies of Arcadia) music would be good, considering the game takes place on flying pirate ships (I think). Let's see...

Black Pirates' Theme
Kingdom of Ixa'taki
Air Pirate Secret Base
Eastern Air Pirates

Some songs to listen to.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
Check out my original music at my Soundcloud page!

Latest music rips (updated January 10, 2012):

SimCity DS - Jazz/ambient/electronic music including interesting reworkings of songs from the fantastic SimCity 3000 soundtrack
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

Kuutei Senki also takes place on flying pirate ships.
Some tracks, like Set Sail!, Island Dwellers or This Rudder will not Shake deliver a nice atmosphere, despite them not having a very pirate-ish instrumentation.

Hey, good idea Rimo =o

Its funny though, I have the toughest time putting together a decent list of pirate music. Oh well here's what I have that wasn't mentioned yet:

Sould Calibur II OST - Eternal Struggle
Vandal Hearts OST - Ocean
Age of Empires III Soundtrack - A Pirate's Temper (I think this track is a little short)
GRANDIA III ~original sound tracks~ (Disc. 1) - A Sailor's Spirit

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I have another suggestion, though I'm not sure if it even tangents the theme.

From Granstream Saga, the theme of the Desbat Pirates - Gude Airship is the name of the song on my rip, but as I said, it's questionable.

I think you were asking for piratey sounding music, not just music that is pirate-related ingame (though the two often coincide, of course), right Rimo?

"Black Forest" from Suikoden 1 is totally nautical, despite being, well, a forest.

"Azure Ocean" from Lufia II has a nice piratey feel to it.

"Gulug Volcano" from FFIX always seemed rather sailorish to me (though it might be only me).

Oh, and just about everything from the Monkey Island series.

I was speaking idiomatically.

What about "Pirate Man" from Rockman and Forte/MegaMan and Bass? I'm not too familiar with the soundtrack, but I know he's in there.

I know Gangplank Galleon was mentioned earlier, but there's a lot more good stuff from Donkey Kong Country 2. Haunted Hall's ghost pirates, anyone? You gotta have ghost pirates somewhere :P

Also "Rusty Bucket Bay" from Banjo-Kazooie.

I just remembered another good one that is distinctly piratey and pirate-related:

Soul Edge Super Battle Sound Attack - Bravely Folk Song

I guess Castaway Into Darkness qualifies as well. It's from the PS1 original soundtrack, or Khan Super Session.

I was thinking that People with Great Pride sounds kind of piratey, but then the clanking noise seems more like it would come from a mine or something. Pirate and dwarf music often seem to be similarly boisterous. Umaro from FFVI could also be considered piratey, I think. It seems like some "mountain climbing" themes from RPGs could qualify too. Stuff like Mt. Ordeals from FFIV and Twin Mountains from Brave Fencer Mushashi seem somewhat piratey and/or nautical to me.

I've always been a big fan of the FFIX version of Gulug Volcano, and maybe that it sounds sailorish has something to do with it.

That's true. DKC2 has a pirate theme throughout. Jib Jig certainly qualifies.

I've got four tracks from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door that's pirate-related. I uploaded them in a ZIP folder:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/1aujm5

I'd definitely love to see this compilation made. There's too little of these and we need more, especially since it promotes the power that VGM has.

I just know BSC participants are gonna hate me for this.

Good to hear that this game's music was mentioned here. I would've mentioned the pirate-related tracks if you didn't beat me to it!

Anyway, I have one track to add, and that's Jolly Roger's Lagoon from Banjo-Tooie. Although I don't like it as much as Treasure Trove Cove or Rusty Bucket Bay from Banjo-Kazooie, it's still a solid track. So, I'll upload Jolly Roger's Lagoon to Rimo's FTP Server.

Yes, that should probably have been 'Treasure Trove Cove' instead of 'Rusty Bucket Bay.' However, I was also listening to "Into the Deep" from Submarine Attack earlier today and thought what a nice track that was.

ocremix.org/remix/OCR01222/

I suppose it has a bit of a piratey feel to it. I seem to remember this one reached Legendary status on VGMix2 and it's still a great piece.

What a cool thread! I love pirate music. Not sure if this one counts but, Megaman 8 for the Psx the theme to Aqua man's stage sounds pretty piratey.

This is an old thread, but I thought I'd give it a little jolt nevertheless. I just started gathering some pirate themed music after playing the wonderful Monkey Island 1 and 2 SE on XBLA. I've looked through this thread and found many awesome piratey tracks, but after five years, there must have emerged new songs on this theme.

Does anyone have any new pirate game music or pirate music in general they can direct us to?

I have made a (which to my recognition fits the bill) compilation of sorts. This took me a while and I am very happy with the outcome. Although there aren't only pirate themed music (and not only VGM, but also movie and from some other sources too) in there, I decided to name this compilation "pirate and adventure music collection". I really hope you'll like it. Many songs suggested in this thread are in here too, although not all of them.

I've uploaded all the parts I've done so far:

Part 1: PAM.rar
Part 2: PAM2.rar
Part 3: PAM 3.rar
Part 4: PAM 4.rar
Part 5: PAM 5.rar

Hope you'll enjoy this awesome compilation!
