Lost my administrator account. How do I retrieve it?
Due to an exciting Windows fuckup, I lost my admin account when I tried to create another one. It's been eliminated from the login screen, but as you can see from this screenshot, the folder (and all its data) still remains:
I'd really like to be able to get my old account and settings back. Is it possible? Update: A foray into Safe Mode allows me to login to my original account (which is an administrator), but it still won't let me delete or demote the other one. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
The "Administrator" account is never designed to be used, and reclaiming it is a difficult goal if even possible. Just create a new account and copy all the profile information over.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I went into Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Local Users, and saw all the accounts. It gave me a strong warning against deleting it, but when I restarted after doing so, the default Administrator account returned, and so did all my settings. I don't understand what caused this to begin with, but it seems everything's back in order.
