Wonder if Mad Max is gonna make a cameo. At least with this setting, it'll be harder for them to make a crappy RE4 movie (woot destroyed the world already). They might as well call this "Desert of the Dead".

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Why do I feel like I'm going to end up watching Land of the Dead all over again...

I mean, really, what the fuck idea is that... They have completely taken a turn from the games and books... The idea of the desert reminds me of the 4th book but the end of civilized world reminds me of Land of the Dead.

Ugg. Not that I'm expecting the RE movies to be good (they arn't), but I'll still see them in hopes for some fun zombie smashing good times.

But really? Ali Larter? I mean, she's always in good movies. Final Destination, American Outlaws, Drive Me Crazy, House on Haunted Hill, Legally Blonde. If Varsity Blues and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back are the best films you've ever made, you may have problems.

So it's Day of the Dead meets Mad Max. I believe that exact movie was called Land of the Dead, and it was terrible.

But who am I kidding, I'll still see the son of a bitch.

The first one, well it did stray far from the games, was overall very good and well made. The second one... was pispoor in comparison; which sadly I purchased on DVD due to the calibur fo the first one.

I'm not expecting much from any further sequals.

Got this from rehorror.net (spoilers):

"Extinction Script and First Details for 4th Movie
Someone got their hands on a draft of a Resident Evil: Extinction script post-dated May 15th 2006. Here's all the info we could glean from it:

Spoiler:
-"Post-apocalyptic" world is a bit of an exaggeration. The film takes place only 3 days after Apocalypse and one third of the US has been infected. A massive quarantine barrier bisects the entire country. Guess which side Alice & co are on? Raccoon City also got nuked, twice.

-The BOWs that will appear in the movie are: zombie, super-zombies (runners), Hunters, Chimeras, the Yawn (snake) and the T-002 Tyrant. Some of the lesser BOWs may get replaced with Lickers from the previous movies due to budget and time constraints.

-Everyone who survived the last film is back, except one. In fact we're first reintroduced to the gang when they're mourning Angie Ashford, who died from a zombie attack a few hours before. They're in their little Mad Max vehicle driving around the Nevada desert. Dr. Issacs is also back and is searching for Alice in his own armoured vehicle. He's also taken to summarily executing his subordinates on a whim.

-Lots of big wide-angle shots from a news helicopter's POV showing destroyed citiy streets à la RE:Outbreak, before zooming in on Alice's vehicle. They stop at a gas station and get out. Jill and L.J take care of food whilst Alice and Carlos get gasoline. Zombies turn up, a battle ensues and during the height of the slaughter Alice uses her super-powers to make the zombies' brains explode.

-Cut to Claire Redfield infiltrating an Umbrella outpost on the outskirts of a city called Birkin (yes, you read that correctly). She takes Nurse Betty hostage and orders her to help Claire get into the more secure sections of the base so she can get more info on the location of her brother, Chris. Betty gets the best of her a few minutes later and activates an alarm. Claire gets taken prisoner.

-Meanwhile Alice & co have also arrived at the outpost and Alice is using her super-powers again to kill the guards. Jill hacks into the security system and shuts it down, meaning all the BOWs can now get out. Hunters and Chimeras take down all the guards whilst Claire, Betty and "Umbrella Captain" (unnamed character who sticks through part of the film) take refuge in an electrified kennel. Alice then enters the base alone and uses her wire kung-fu to kill all the BOWs, including impaling one of the BOW's heads (goodbye PG-13 rating).

-Cue lengthy exposition where it's revealed they've all been exposed to a virus (new virus, T-virus, exposure in the previous movies, exposure just by being in the quarantined zone, who knows?). There is an antidote, located in Umbrella's Alaskan lab. They have 3 weeks to get it or they'll die.

-Cut to abandoned K-mart. It's residents are Mikey (a girl), her Puerto Rican boyfriend "Runt" and annoying hanger-on "Pockmark" (I'm so glad that at least one of them must die). Alice's convoy runs into them and they join up (they also need the cure) just in time for Dr. Issacs and a huge army of zombies to arrive on the scene. Claire leads the convoy off whilst Alice and Issacs go head-to-head. Issacs is written down as "mechanically protected", and I hope to god that means armoured vehicle and not mechwarrior. Issacs gets taken out by the two hundred or so zombies and Alice is left close to death. Claire comes in solo and drags her out of there, and they are picked up by L.J and Pockmark.

-Then comes a series of action scenes depicting the journey to Alaska. It's sort of a protracted chase sequence that involves the Yawn at its climax. Some of the extraneous characters are killed off and either Jill or Carlos bites the dust (almost certainly Jill, as they already have Alice and Claire filling the "kick-ass chick" role and only Carlos for the male lead. L.J doesn't count, he's just comic relief).

-Finally we reach Alaska, where the survivors find out the cure is actually in the blood of a Tyrant (described as "a towering mass of surgically constructed limbs with an empowering hand that features four extremely sharp blades") kept in cold storage. They begin a procedure and fill several vials with its blood when the operation wakes it up. "Epic" fight ensues with a "shocking conclusion" (I'm hoping that means Alice dies. With all her super-powers there is no way they can advance her character any further. Plus, the last five pages of the script focus on setting up Claire's search for her brother in the fourth RE film).

-People's impressions of the script were generally positive and it was labelled as definitely better than Apocalypse. Take that as you will."
------------

I've tried to read as little of this as possible, but it seems to be good. I hope the person who wrote this up got a copy of the REAL script and isn't bullshiting us. I also saw a link to a script review on scifi.com for the same script, so who knows.

I LOVED Resident Evil 2.

Of course, I haven't been in the movie scene.

Even still, I loved the action in it. RE2 It was more of an "action" movie then a "horror" which I'm guessing it's the reason so many people hate it.

In RE1, Alice had that "Damsel in distress" style (at least, that's what I remember). I loved how she changed into this fully competent fighter in RE2.

I'll really look forward to this movie. They say it's better then RE2...I'm already sold.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

From rehorror.net: Extinction spoilers
Spoiler:
Thanks to another movie extra, we’ve managed to garner some major plot points including an in-depth description on how two major characters snuff it. He also provided some hi-res panoramic shots of the set.

Umbrella Compound
Another angle
Gearing up
Clapperboard

-Alice’s convoy is comprised of: a yellow Hummer (civilian model), a school bus, a TV truck (station “KT-3 Denver News”), a tanker truck (ENCO company), an army truck (6 wheels, 2.5 ton model) and a Raccoon City ambulance, all tricked out Mad Max style.

-The purpose of the ”Ice Hockey Undead” scene: Dr. Isaacs is gathering all the zombies that have mutated into Stalkers in order to mount an attack on Alice’s convoy in hopes of capturing her for further research.

-There is a scene in the desert where a bunch of infected crows are feasting on some dead zombies. In this scene they didn’t actually use any real crows, just ones made out of paper.

-K-Mart becomes a zombie. Spencer Locke was seen getting the full zombie make-up at her trailer.

-Carlos was the one driving the petrol tanker, he dies when it blows up. Using the multitude of information provided by the different extras and our "Occupation: Zombie" blog, we can now reconstruct what happens:

Carlos (his stunt double actually) is in the tanker taking the lead with its battering ram, followed by Alice (again, stunt double) in the Hummer and some others in the 6-wheeler army truck, driving towards the Umbrella compound pell-mell (maybe to attack Isaacs or rescue Claire+K-Mart?). The tanker truck takes a hit or loses a tire or something and crashes into a sand dune. The ever-present mob of zombies descends upon it and tries to eat Carlos. The tanker then explodes (maybe Carlos lit the flame himself?). Alice & co continue on with the Hummer smashing down the gate with the army truck following. Whilst Alice & co are doing their thing (it was filmed somewhere else as they’ll need the real cast for all the close-ups) the zombies swarm in through the gate. Sometime later on after some exposition inside the central building, Claire, K-Mart and an unidentified pilot escape in the chopper.

Big thanks to Shava for his help. You can see a few more photos from the set on his blog.

Sometime in the future we will be getting pictures of the vehicles from the convoy, pics of Milla and Carlos’s stunt doubles, as well as photos of a returning character from the games and previous movies not yet revealed. See you then.

-----
You'll have to go to rehorror.net to see the four pictures. The site also has a link to a picture that supposedly shows Wesker.

Double Post:
Some more stuff I found on wikipedia:

"On July 30, 2006 During a television special from Game Head on Spike TV. Viewers were treated to a special sneek peek at the film. The following details were revealed:

Spoiler:
-The film takes place 3-5 years after Apocalypse.
-Angela Ashford will not be returning.
-Milla's character Alice is now on her own.
-The world is overrun with the T-Virus, and infected crows will attack the convoy..
-The convoy is actually a school bus and an ambulance with grates and bars covering the windows will also be used.
-The sinister Albert Wesker (Peter O Meara) is having a conversation with an Umbrella Executive (John Eric Bentley) in a board room.
-We are also shown Dr. Isaacs lab.
-Here is a behind the scenes photo of Albert Wesker found at Rehorror.com: http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/8971/weskerka0.png

Heh. It could've been him or Brock Lesnar XD. Overall from what i've read in the news. As long as Claire is in the movie, We can expect good stuff from her. Ali Larter is a maybe for me. I liked her in Varsity Blues but I guess they chose her as a turn on for Claire since she played a serious role in the first two FD movies. We'll see at least. They need to make sure her hair is NOT blonde.

Got some new pictures. None of Milla unfortunatly, but one of her stunt double. Got some zombie pictures. They look ok I guess. From rehorrot.net: "Fourth movie confirmed. First details. 13 Aug 2006
In an interview at Comic-Con, Ali Larter who plays Claire Redfield confirmed that they have started working on Resident Evil 4 and that it will take place in Alaska. She also talked about Extinction, describing it as "Mad Max meets The Birds"." Another RE movie. They had been talking about a forth one. I think number four was up in the air, but I guess they came up with enough of a story to warrant a forth instalment.

Ashanti Hopes Her Bloody 'Buffy' Background Helps Her In 'Resident Evil 3'

Singer/actress recently finished shooting part in apocalyptic series.

By Larry Carroll

When last we saw "Resident Evil" heroine Alice, things weren't looking too rosy.

She had died in a crash, been resurrected by scientists in a lab and appeared to be turning into some sort of mutant/robot — quite possibly an evil one — under the control of the soulless Umbrella Corporation. On top of that, most of the world's population had been infected by the T-Virus outbreak and was rapidly transforming into bloodthirsty zombies.

But help is on the way, and it's coming from an unexpected source.

R&B songstress Ashanti agreed that it was a little odd when series overseer Paul W.S. Anderson approached the sci-fi rookie with "Resident Evil: Extinction," the upcoming third movie in the series.

"It was very funny," she said. "But I had done a 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' [episode], which was somewhat similar in the sense that I played a demon and I had to stab someone. There was blood and everything!"

"Blood and everything" would seem to be the operative words in these video game-based movies, which have so far terrified fans with undead dogs, the 9-foot-tall bio-weapon Nemesis and enough zombies to suck the brains out of a Mensa meeting. The 25-year-old Ashanti, whose movie career was helped along this year by the comedy "John Tucker Must Die" (see "Ashanti Insists Film About Killing Her Ex Is Actually 'Light' And 'Fun' "), will be joined by returning stars Milla Jovovich and Mike Epps.

"Milla is totally different from all of us," Ashanti said of the action-loving co-star who has brought Alice to life. "She's way more skilled [during the action scenes]. She knows what she's up against, and she's the vet. It's not too intimidating, because you expect it and you're like, 'OK, she has that covered.' "

"Extinction" picks up with Alice and smartass cabdriver L.J. (Epps) riding a pimped-out school bus across the wasteland once known as the United States. Desperate for help anywhere they can get it, the duo recruit no-nonsense tough girl Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and Ashanti's character, a firepowered Florence Nightingale named Nurse Betty.

"Betty drives a really cool ambulance with these huge spiked-out razorblades on the tires to keep all the undead monsters away," the singer/actress said. "Basically she tries to nurse up whoever gets bit."

Ashanti said she got to perform some pretty intense stunts on the Mexico sets, but contrary to rumor, her character does not pilot the high-powered helicopter linked to one of the film's most high-concept action sequences. "No, I'm actually not flying the chopper," she said. "I drive the ambulance. But there's a couple of stunts going back and forth with the bus."

Nurse Betty also gets to wield some weaponry. "I would have to say [the best part] was being able to shoot the 9-millimeter," she grinned. "That was something so liberating to me — I'd never done anything like that before. At first I was a little bit leery, and I was like, 'OK, I've got to be really careful.'

"Although it had blank bullets, the gun was heavy and it made a loud noise," she continued. "But I got into it really quick, I must say. The trainer was like, 'All right, Ashanti, you got it,' and I was like, 'Pop! Pop! Pop!' "

The ammo wasn't the only thing creating sparks: Between action sequences, Nurse Betty gets to play doctor with Epps' comic-relief cabby. "She and Mike Epps kind of develop a rapport, a little relationship," she revealed. "There's a lot of care going on between the two."

With all the zombie-munching that goes on throughout the "Resident Evil" flicks, Nurse Betty's ability to bring back the undead should introduce a unique twist — and a very welcome one for Epps' apparently imperiled bite victim. But does Nurse Betty become a patient herself?

Ashanti stopped short of revealing her fate, but she admits that when she received the horror script, she couldn't help but pray that her character would get a great death scene.

"You want the most screen time, but you also want the most challenging role to get a chance to demonstrate your skills and your talents," she said. "So if that involves a death scene, it's like, 'How can I go out in victory?' If you don't die, you obviously want to stay on the screen as long as possible. So it's a combination of both."

Live or die, at the end of "Extinction," things probably won't be much better off for Alice, her still-living friends or the world around them. Anderson has expressed a desire to make the series into a tetralogy, and a fourth "Resident Evil" film would have a whole universe of apocalyptic video games, graphic novels and fan fiction to inspire it.

"We are the minority, the survivors," Ashanti explained of the ongoing saga in the third film and beyond. "We're looking for survivors, and we're trying to get to Alaska because we hear that's where the survivors go. The world is covered in zombies, we're running out of food, there's no water and there's a lot of people dying. It's all about just surviving."
----

From comingsoon.net:
(posted on the site on October 24, 2006)

"By the way, "Resident Evil" franchise fans will also be pleased to hear that the trailer for "Resident Evil: Extinction" will premiere with Ghost Rider in February."
-------------

From bloody-disgusting.com:

Wednesday, September 27, 2006

Sony Screen Gems has just announced that they've pushed back the release date of Resident Evil: Extinction even further! Originally announced for a September 7, 2007 release, Russell Mulcahy's film will now hit theaters September 21st. Milla Jovovich is back as Alice, and she's running with a new pack of humans, leading a caravan that's cutting through the Nevada desert on a long trek to Alaska. Hunted by the minions of the perpetually scheming Dr. Isaacs, Alice has zombies hungry for her flesh (once again) and lab rats hungry for her blood -- while Alice is hungry for only one thing: revenge.

Another update: (from ign)

1) An End to Evil?
Resident Evil: Extinction the last in the movie series?
by IGN Staff

December 15, 2006 - While rumors of a fourth installment in the videogame-based series persist, a new official synopsis released today by Sony matter-of-factly states that the third movie in the franchise, Resident Evil: Extinction, will be the last.

The studio refers to the flick as "the third and final installment" of Resident Evil, and goes on to give a breakdown of Extinction's action:

Alice (Milla Jovovich), now in hiding in the Nevada desert, once again joins forces with Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr) and L.J. (Mike Epps), along with new survivors Claire (Ali Larter), K-Mart (Spencer Locke) and Nurse Betty (Ashanti) to try to eliminate the deadly virus that threatens to make every human being undead... and to seek justice. Since being captured by the Umbrella Corporation, Alice has been subjected to biogenic experimentation and becomes genetically altered, with super-human strengths, senses and dexterity. These skills, and more, will be needed if anyone is to remain alive.

The flick also stars Iain Glen, Chris Egan and Jason O'Mara. Russell Mulcahy directed from a script written by franchise producer Paul W.S. Anderson.

Resident Evil: Extinction hits theaters on September 21, 2007.

2) Sienna Guillory won't be in Resident Evil 3 (from empireonline.com interview):

Empire: So, you’re not in Resident Evil 3. How come?

Sienna: It was that awful thing of bad timing and things not happening at the right time. I was doing something else and couldn’t be there and the stars didn’t align, which is a shame.
------
There is also a new picture of Milla Jovovich from RE3.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I personally love the movies. They're full of zombies, have a great soundtrack and don't really take themselves seriously. I wasn't paying full attention when I watched Apocalypse, so I'll need to see that again sometime, but the first in the series really was a fun watch.

I'm excited for Extinction.

And I haven't even finished the first game in the series.

That really was low quality, kinda hard to tell what was going on. Nether the less, I am looking forward to this one coming out. I was one of the few that actually liked the first two.

here for you guys ^^

well see like a nice action movie, but a good resident evil? not sure.

anyway I don't like the new hair of Alice, look too much boyish (I want an Hot Alice like in the first one XD)

and I'm not sure about Ali Larter as Claire...or at leats they could have died her hair brown and tie them like Claire always has them... if I didn't not that she was playing as Claire already i gues I would have never know from this trailer.

at least you recognized Jill at first look in the second movie...

oh and I hope there's more than just zombies, I like a big monster like the liker in the first one or something else. (maybe we will see come crimson zombies that run faster and are stronger than regular one ^^)

According to the info from earlier on this page...

Spoiler:
-The BOWs that will appear in the movie are: zombie, super-zombies (runners), Hunters, Chimeras, the Yawn (snake) and the T-002 Tyrant. Some of the lesser BOWs may get replaced with Lickers from the previous movies due to budget and time constraints.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
