I'm looking to purchase a VGA box and need help

I want something that will either:

a) Allow me to connect a game console, through an s-video connection, directly to the VGA whatsamadoo on my monitor, or
b) Allow me to connect a game console to my laptop through a USB port, using an s-video connection.

I'm not hugely picky, but I'm looking for something that's not too pricey (anything under $60) that'll allow me to do one of the above. Thanks.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Seriously, you're better off looking at what choices the console gives you than investing in a generic VGA box with lackluster image quality.

For example, there's an official VGA cable for the Xbox 360 and you can use HDMI > DVI/VGA cabling for the PS3. Even the Dreamcast supports VGA "out of the box" without converting. Additionally, a number of (computer) LCD monitors sport component inputs for use with almost all modern consoles (PS2, Wii, Xbox).

Older consoles without progressive scan support will look horribly with a VGA box, due to deinterlacing.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I'm thinking about Wii and GCN here, and perhaps a friend's PS2. Is there some kind of component-to-VGA kit I can acquire with no need for a box?

My monitor is a CRT and it has no component input - Just VGA.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I bought one of these and my advice is do what Free.User suggests. The picture isn't horrible, but if you can do better than by all means do better.

I was speaking idiomatically.
