Racquetball!!

Oh mah geeee dawg. I'm a racquetball addict. Who else enjoys the sport of racquetball?! quite frankly i enjoy it more than tennis. I have a wilson Ncode Nlite 150 grams of pure ownage. Anybody else enjoy the sport? Who plays competitively? me me me! Discuss!

My mom is a huge fan of racquetball. When I still lived at home, I'd join her in the sport. Good old quality time is all it ever was to me, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Works up a good sweat. I'm all for soccer and hockey, personally.

I practice it, but im not a big fan of it... i rather like football and hockey as well... i just do it for the ammount of excercise you get to do

I'm taking a racquetball class this semester. I had only played it a few times in my 4 years of college, but now I get to play it often. It's fun, though I'm still more of a baller. <3 Basketball and soccer. Tru warier.

Yea i went through a racquetball class here at UT twas great. Racquetball unlike tennis is an easier sport to pick up any beginner can have fun with it from the start.

Racquetball truly is an underrated sport.

My father competed constantly back in the 70s when the game was huge. He had me play it when I was younger because, as stated in this thread, it has great athletic benefits.

I haven't played in a few years, but I would love to start up again and join some small tournament in my area.

Yes, that's raquetball. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will discuss the rules. I enjoy playing raquetball when there's time, even though I still prefer tennis. The best part about it is the easy learning curve. Not too hard to get good at.

The Student Rec Center at the University of Arizona has a great setup for racquetball, the courts were all indoor with the full glass back wall, all indoors and air-conditioned. My friends and I went to play racquetball quite often. Tucson is the home of the Handball Hall of Fame, but the game of choice in those little rooms seemed to be racquetball.

I've heard racquetball often referred to as a very dangerous game. I assume this would be not only due to the little ball flying around really fast, but also related to running and lunging in close quarters with another person in a fairly small space. Is its reputation as a dangerous sport really that warranted?

Good players should wear goggles. You sometimes can't react fast enough to get your face out of the way of the ball. I never played with anyone who hit really hard, and it still stings. I couldn't imagine getting hit in the eye (I never wore goggles).

How fast would you say the average player can expect to rifle a ball on a good swing?

I'm looking online, I see a good player can serve it at over 100 mph (granted, it loses a lot after it hits the wall) and hits through the point can go at about 70 mph. One site said between 60 and 200.

Yeah, I just lost to a dude who could serve that fast in my, um... "beginner" racquetball class. kthx. It also doesn't help that I take off my glasses when I play (I wear goggles). So, in fact, his serves were so monstrous that I couldn't even see the ball until it was about 2 feet in front of me. I got pwnd 15-0.

Oh yea... I've actually been hit in the eye once. No protection. My eye bled a little and my contact fell out, my friend thought it was part of my eye so he rushes and calls emergency from the University gym. I was fine just in shock and it didnt really hurt all that bad. Made everything bad cause then i got afraid of looking back and checking to see where my opponent was and everything. Meh. That's why goggles are important boys and girls... even though tilll this day i dont wear them. It helps to play with people who are experienced and can control the ball.
