3D-Dot Game Heroes

Just something I came across randomly, and thought it looked awesome.

YouTube Video

3D-Dot Game Heroes reminds me a lot of A Link to the Past in some places. It looks pretty cool, and the loading screens make me giggle just a little bit. It seems a lot like a Zelda-style action-RPG, but made entirely out of LEGO blocks.

I believe it's a PSN game, but I could be wrong. This is a full-blown PS3 game, being released on Blu-Ray. It's supposed to be released in Japan-land on November 5, and at this point there's no word of a NA or EU release. I hope they get around to that, though, cause I'd love to play it, and I can't read Moon Runes.

Here's a 10-minute preview/gameplay-ish video:

Supposedly, some shitty company and Atlus are both vying for localization rights. I'm not alone in hoping that Atlus grabs it.

Also, I'll post a link later on once I get home regarding this. Evidently, there are different loading screens, and each one is an interpretation of a classic game using the game's retro graphics Illusion of Gaia, Solomon's Key, a few FF & Dragon Quest games, etc. The link has screen shots of several of these, and they are awesome.

These are the same dudes who made Demon's Souls. That's proof enough that this'll be quality!

God dammit must have this game. I was already highly interested after watching the videos, but the awesome loading screens gave this a violent shove into must have.

I think there's nothing about this game I don't like. Old school Zelda-style gameplay, customizing your character looks cool, the music sounds great, and I think that giant-bladed sword is one of the funniest things I've seen in a game. I really hope this makes it to the states.

I love how From's been doing various interesting work or making cult hits for a while, and now with Demon's Souls, everyone now takes notice like it's some new fangled thing that they do some good work.

PS, your "shitty other company" were the publishers of Muramasa and soon to be Spectral Force Genesis, so.

PPS. They are just as capable of putting out some serious BS, so don't cream yourself just yet.

Compared to Atlus, almost any localization is shit And I've been playing From Software games for years. I just cited Demon's Souls because it's their latest, most mainstreamed hit. If I mentioned "King's Field" or "Otogi" or "Armored Core" folks would just go "bwuh?"

Do we actually know anything about the group of folks inside From that are making this? Is it actually the Demon's Souls guys? I have heard no information on the subject so I'm not willing to immediately expect something of that caliber just yet.

Also, Atlus has been doing a LOT of shit jobs lately, so I find that sentiment pretty fucking hilarious.

[10/19/09 - 14:46:23] <@Q-chan> I think his entire reasoning if of course "well I really like persona games so atlus is all around really great at localizing"

There's nowhere I can't reach.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

According to the game's website, it's being developed by Silicon Studio. I think this is a contract work that From Software is just publishing.

3DƒhƒbƒgƒQ[ƒ€ƒq[ƒ[ƒY | FromSoftware

(It's in the bottom right corner)

EDIT: Unless of course, Silicon Studio is just providing some sort of software tools, etc. Not entirely sure.

Yeah, their company profile seems to that of a middleware provider. Most of it seems to be here: ????????????????????? or here Company Profile?Silicon Studio Corporation

But on the flipside they also have a listing for a "content studio" here: ????????????????????

So I'm thinking you're right, From might just be publishing this.

Either way, it does look like a ton of fun and I really hope it gets a Western release. I really enjoy the homage to Legend of Zelda. It doesn't really try to hide that fact.

Indeed. I'm glad to be as old as I am right now (30) because we're beginning to see games like these that take the old school aesthetic and run with it in a unique and humorous way. Look at Badman form NIS. The asthetic reminds me of a calendar I once had (probably still do somewhere) that was all Nintendo characters but done with block style art. It was pretty cool for the day. I need to find it, I couldn't even find pics of it online...

Came out today and picked it up. It's a steal for $39.99 anyways!

The game is pretty damn good actually. It plays exactly like Legend of Zelda as we've been told (and seen) to expect.

The controls are pretty solid although it moves better with the digital pad than analog stick, at least it does to me.

I haven't played much of it, but I am loving this game.

The create system looks a bit daunting but I'm sure once I get used to it, it'll be cake to create different characters. (Which I know everyone will just create Link lol)

Anyone else get this gem?

I grabbed it today as well, and have played through the first temple. It's VERY much reminiscent of the old Zelda games [the first one, to be exact] with a bit of FF1 thrown in for good measure.

The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the gigantic sword. While amusing, it makes killing stuff too easy.
