Few companies understand the psychology of dealing with a failing console. Your normal company will panic and immediately lower the price. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the gamer heart. Make the bastard believe that everything will be fine in a few months. He will believe it.

What SCEA is doing is stupid. They go ahead and instead of lowering the price, they make a super offer like 20GB extra, but hey don't expect us to lower the price, you losers, oh did we say losers, because we meant paying customers; then they expect people to be like OMG YEAH 20 GB MORE APPLAUSE. SCEE doesn't seem to be that retarded, fortunately.

You don't have to be Jesus to realize that a lot of potential PS3 buyers haven't bought a console yet because besides two or three games, there's only shit on the market. I mean, it's only logical: Why should I get a console now? Maybe it will get cheaper. Maybe a bundle solution. Who knows.

That's the funny part is a price cut isn't necessary anyway. It isn't selling because it doesn't have any fucking games. If they would get off their asses and pump some solid games out there the system will start selling no matter what the price is. I have no idea why Sony doesn't understand this. It is not a difficult concept.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

That's why I say let's wait until October. I mean, saying that Sony failed selling their PS3 because there are no good games on the market is like saying Ford failed selling their cars because they don't have any wheels.

The best time to buy a PS3 was when the 20GB version was readily available. It's worth $500 for the pure black finish alone.

Just as a note, Europe is getting a "starter pack" this Saturday (wait, that's today), which will contain a 60GB PS3, two controllers and two games, and the idea is to sell it at the same price as a normal console before.

Not a bad deal considering how much we've been getting the crotch punch on pretty much everything so far

no price cut for us tho lol

I've never understood why companies decided they could get away with selling a console without any games in the first place. Next thing you know it's going to start being like printers and they won't even come with the cables to hook it up.

Argh?! Where do you got this info from?

I mean, look, that's what I am talking about. THAT is a good idea. People like bundle solutions like this one. Two controllers, two games. Perfect. Not as retarded as just adding 20 GB of harddisk space. Nobody needs that.

SCEA mentioned that any statements by SCEE about the removal of 60GB PS3s from the US market are false and should not be listened to. They still intend to produce 60GB models.

However like stated before, Kaz said that they are going to stop 60GB production.

It seems like no one at Sony really knows what is going on.

Probably because Sony is reluctant to "lower" the price, and because WE had to pay 1.5 times the price of a US PS3 for an inferior product. Emulated backwards compatibility is the single worst idea ever.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I was hoping to get the 60gig PS3 this holiday season (from my parents) because of the price drop. I don't even know if it'll last that long, considering people would want to buy it now while there's still a lot to go through. I'd much rather have the Europe value pack than the 80gig one if the price is still $600.

I was speaking idiomatically.

We already had to foot the bill for memory cards, which should have come with the system. Thankfully, with next-gen that is now a thing of the past. I mean, PS2 memory cards retailed for $24.99, so if you play a decent amount of games you could easily have spent a hundred bucks on just memory cards in past generations of consoles. In a way, that lowers the price of the next-gen consoles a bit in my mind, knowing that I won't have to put up with memory card purchases or 3rd-party cards corrupting data.

Ah don't worry guys. Give them the time they need. In autumn, when the "good" games are coming, you'll see that nobody's gonna talk about the mistakes they made anymore. They just need a good advertising campaign like bundle products (PS3+GTA IV for instance), then they gonna sell their consoles. It was the same with PlayStation 2.
That wouldn't work here... politicians would bitch like always... especially since it's GTA. The games coming this fall won't lead me to pick up a PS3. Maybe in 2 or 3 years I'll get one... and thats a big maybe.

And hearing about how their price drop is just to phase out a 60GB model to introduce another model at the same ridiculous $600 price tag just annoys me at the moment.

If there is a game thats gonna tip in the PS3's favor, is gonna be MGS4, which wont be out till NEXT year.

This year? Only Heavenly Sword actually looks awesome. I have yet to see anything else that would become the "Gears of War" for the PS3.

But can one or two games make a big difference?

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

It's not just one or two games. In addition to Heavenly Sword, there are solid exclusive titles like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Warhawk, Lair, Ratchet & Clank, LittleBigPlanet (which I personally think will be a major system-seller for people on the fence), Folklore, Tekken 6, Home, plus multiplatform games like Stranglehold (PS3 gets exclusive collector's edition with high-definition version of Hard Boiled), Mercenaries 2, Haze (timed exclusive), Guitar Hero 3, Devil May Cry 4, Rock Band, Call of Duty 4, Unreal Tournament 3 (timed console version exclusive), Burnout Paradise, Assassin's Creed, and of course Grand Theft Auto IV.

So, there will be a shitload of games for a PS3 owner to play at the end of this year, and more exclusive blockbusters to look forward to in 2008 (Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid). Yes, the non-exclusives can be had on the 360 as well, but there might be some people (like me) who prefer PS3 because it doesn't have an issue of 'when will it break down?' While PS3 has been very weak so far, it still has sold about 3.5 million units -- and that's with virtually no games. Unless Sony really keeps fucking up with their price cuts and whatnot, I think it will do well in autumn/winter. They definitely won't dominate the market like they did with PS2, but PS3 will become much stronger competition for the 360 than it's been so far.

Hey guys did you know: The Ratchet & Clank Future TOD trailer is fucking awesome.

Did you also know: The Simpsons game must be a game for absolute retards, as far as I can see it from the "Sizzle Video". I mean, basically, you're running around and exploding in crowded areas, this is like a training game for suicide bombers.

well if they're going to keep calling it "next gen gaming" I expect games that couldn't possibly be done on old hardware with less graphical detail... in other words I want fully destructable environments and uh being able to see footprints in the dirt to tell where the enemy was or is :P

Also I expect to see all NPCs have as much lines as they do in Shenmue... and I expect to be able to ask them multiple questions. Stop giving us games that could be done on GC, PS2 or Xbox with fancier graphics.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

You won't be putting up with memory card purchases, but you're still paying for that overpriced HD.

Hell, they could even preload the drives with some fairly basic games or maybe like a Best of Sony collection with some classic PSX games loaded on it (preload FF7 on it and you'd get 200000000000 sales on the first day).

They wouldn't do that unless they were preloading games that they didn't have to pay any licensing fees for. That's not a bad idea though; it would definitely make me not feel as irritated at paying three to five dollars a gig for a hard drive when under normal, non-console circumstances, I could get a much larger hard drive for something like 50 to 60 cents a gig. It would have to be a lot of decent games preloaded though.

I guess that's the problem with Sony not actually being a first-party producer and only having those second-party ones like Ratch & Clank that produce really sweet games.

It actually makes me surprised that Nintendo didn't preload the Wii with Mario 1, 2, 3, World, and 64 (and Sunshine lol). I miss having a real Mario game at the console's launch. I wonder if they could have come up with a novel way of using the Wii controller like ROB for Gyromite.
