General Mario speedruns involving glitches or tools of some kind
Before you watch the video, it is known that the guy that filmed this used some tool to slow down the gameplay, and by the description he rerecorded some parts... Yet, it's still quite awesome to watch him breezing through the game like that!!! (The video is in normal speed)
YouTube - Super Mario 64 in 15:35 by Rikku By the way, does anyone know what tool he used to make this? Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Speedruns using glitches are so lame. =\
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I agree this is pretty lame, I prefer the 16 min by Spazzini, it seems way more legit.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
15 minutes isn't the fastest you can get now.
Here's Mario 64 in 5:29
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
And since we're on the same subject, some Japanese guy beat SMB3 in roughly 11 mins, using slow-down and speed-ups:
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Too bad for that Japanese guy that someone who didn't cheat at all replicated his feat in 11:01
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Ahh, well I wasn't aware of that one.
FELIPE NO |
The current TAS (tool-assisted speedrun) record is half a minute faster though. These guys really optimize it to hell.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Super Mario Bro beat with 5 min:

Speed Demos Archive in general is awesome.
Daniel Burns' GTA Vice City and and Hitman runs are worth downloading and watching for the audio commentary alone. There's nowhere I can't reach.

What's the point of speed running a game if your'e cheating ?
I mean, sure it's cool to post something like thet on youtube , I understand thet. but using cheats in videogames before beating the game without cheats seems stupid. Here's a super mario 2 speed run i found. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQr16...rom=PL&index=4 How ya doing, buddy? |
Hahaha, who renamed this thread? ='D
Edit: Holy shit Worm what the christ. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? #654: Braixen |
And then you have stuff like this guy that beat Mega Man X and X2 simultaneously (i.e., with the same set of controller inputs): TASVideos movies: #380 Or these dudes that did the same with four Mega Man games at once: TASVideos movies: #871 I was speaking idiomatically. |
I lack the attention span to beat one of them so fast too! I remember seeing a video where a guy is beating super mario n64 in about 20 minutes ,I don't remember it too much but I think he was using cheats. Ill try serching for thet video. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Well, I personally like to cheat on games, after I beat them. It's a way to increase replay value, and to see and do things impossible to do normally!! I usually find them quite funny, or even awesome. I loved those glitches that the guy exploits...
Wow, and this guy that beats 2-4 Megaman games simultaneously is quite a feat!! Even cheating! Thanks for sharing those videos!! FELIPE NO |
Quake in 17 odd minutes on Nightmare skill level:
There's some fucking crazy grenade jumps early on and bear in mind he's playing normal Quake, not QuakeWorld with it's higher speed and lower gravity. Also the grenade/rocket jumps at the end of the first video to get the rune quicker are smooth as fuck. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Is this guy using some kind of tool? This looks quite real... Can you imagine how much time he spent to memorize and practice this?! Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Based on the time, I'm guessing that's Quake Done Quicker (or Quake Done Quick with a Vengeance; it's hard to tell how much time I should subtract for the pauses between levels). If so: it is legitimate human skill, but it's not a single-segment run. Each level is recorded individually, and there are usually multiple people contributing to the project.
The current record for a single-segment run (known as a "marathon") is 19:50. SDA: Marathons How ya doing, buddy? |
It's only one guy, Sujoy if memory serves. This was first released on Barry's World way back in the depths of time as part of a collection of ridiculous skill videos by predominantly Sujoy and Thresh along with a couple of Swedish players. It's possible he did a level at a time certainly but given some of the other shit I saw him do it's not inconceivable he managed it in one sitting.
I remember seeing a video of his demonstrating exactly why random spawning was needed on Barry's World servers (As opposed to the sequential setup they started out with) by racking up 25 spawn kills in just over a minute. The video was taken from the POV of the person getting fragged and basically every time they spawn there's a rocket in flight heading towards them. You feel pretty sorry for the guy because he really is trying to win, not just standing there waiting for death. I think it was DM3 they were using. I also saw a video of him grenade-bouncing off a wall after rocket jumping up to it in the middle of one match. The man's a legend. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Chrono Trigger SNES completed in 30 minutes, without using a new game plus
TASVideos movies: #1285 Veteran CT players will probably have no idea what's happening, if they don't read the submission comments. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
