MP3 Editing Software?

I've been looking for a good MP3 sound editor for awhile now.
I'm currently using Nero Soundwave (or whatever its called) but most of the MP3 functionality is locked without buying a license.

So I'm looking for a program that I can use to let me easily edit and save MP3s.

I use Adobe Audition 2. Have you tried using it?

Either Audition or Audacity should work. (The latter being suggested if you're looking for something open source for whatever reason.)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I've always liked Audacity. It is very simple, doesn't have a lot of unnecessary features, and it works quite well.

Until a few years ago, I always used Cool Edit/Cool Edit Pro for things requiring a bigger suite. I don't know if they still make updates, but that program always worked just fine.

I have use Adobe Audition, Sound Forge.

By the way, Adobe have bought Cool Edit, so it is now Adobe Audition.

Sound Forge is now owned by Sony, bought from Sonic Foundry.

For some jobs it might be wise to chose software that does not require any re-encoding of the file, hence no quality loss here.
Mp3splt and MP3Gain always worked for me and they're cross-platform.

Audacity is the best program for what you need.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Agreed there, it's free and simple to use. I use Audacity for finding specific timings in VGM files (for Project2612).
