My new nomination:

* Album Title: Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars (PC Game Rip)
* Artist: Paul Romero & Kareen Meshagan
* Track Title: City of the Knight
* Source: Game Credits for Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars
* File Location: Nominations folder (upcoming)
* Disc Number: NA
* Track Number: 2
* Catalogue Number: NA
* Year: 1996
* Note: Vocals by Kareen Meshagan. The nomination is from Rimo's rip of the game (thanks a bunch for ripping the music!).

The vocals (which have a somewhat campy/over-the-top quality) will probably put people off. :P

Sure, I'll be the first. The only drama for me this week was determining who got third place.

(2 points) 1st GIG #Awake - The theme of Arcueid
(1 point) Fighters' Impact - Ancient City -Koto- (Kaede's STAGE)

1st GIG #Awake - The theme of Arcueid It's been established by now that, no matter which GIG it is from, this stuff isn't for me. This is the sort of rock that fails to make an impact on me at any level, frankly.

Detana!! Twinbee - World of the Mold (Stage 4 BGM) Interesting piece, a sort of cutesy-rock. It's a little all over the place and disorganized, but has a nice sound and a good beat.

Elebits (Game Rip) - Mission 27: Me and My Little War This reminded me of a low-key, jazzy rendition of Uematsu's classic JENOVA theme--stripped of its uncanny menace. It's fun, a little scattershot and melodically weak but never boring.

Fighters' Impact - Ancient City -Koto- (Kaede's STAGE) +1 for sitar, -1 for random talking. This one is just too bizarre; Asian instruments, soul singers, synth, and random dialogue make for a completely disjointed song.

Hermina and Culus ~Atelier Lilie Another Story~ Original Soundtrack - Culus' Big Adventure Reminds me very heavily of Shimomura's SMRPG in places, but very charming with a rustic feel and a nice melody.

Momotaro Denchiku II Best Classics - Hudson Soft Orchestra - Wing of Dawn ~ Riding on the Firebird Goddess Interesting stuff--but, as is all too often the case, the orchestral arrangement is thin and otherwise piss-poor, mauling good music near death. It's a shame, as a competent arrangement and performance could really have made the piece shine.

PSYVARIAR "THE MIX" - Volcano - Kamishimo X68000 mix - Got a nice rhythm and beats, no doubt. Takes a while for the main synths to catch up, but when they do, it's a nice dose of chiptune jazz funk.

Savage (Amiga Game Rip) - Level 2 Some really neat vocorder effects in this one. They of course have to mix in some hideous record-scratch effects to puke things up later on, though. Fun but flawed.

The Point Spread
Me and My Little War - 2 pts.
Culus' Big Adventure - 2 pts.
Volcano - 2 pts.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I'm always pleased with MintJam, even if it is just to a limited extent. 1st GIG #Awake - The theme of Arcueid, while not providing any outstanding riffs or melodies, still manages to keep me entertained. Solid~

A bumbling cataclysm of cutesy rock stylings, Detana!! Twinbee - World of the Mold (Stage 4 BGM) doesn't really do anything for me. I usually love cute, upbeat pieces such as this but I need more melody and/or cohesion (which this piece severely lacks).

Hmm, I wonder where most of my points will be going this week. I've been listening to the Elebits gamerip a lot recently, and I absolutely love it. Kind of similar to Opoona. Elebits (Game Rip) - Mission 27: Me and My Little War is a solid mission theme (though not one of my favourites) with a charming sense of melody and bounciness; and everything's tied nicely together with some rather sophisticated rhythms and developments. Grade A stuff.

Fighters' Impact - Ancient City -Koto- (Kaede's STAGE) isn't my favourite from Yack's musical library, that's for sure. A bit too jumbled and cheesy for my liking. Yup, I'll leave it at that.

I remember listening to the Hermina... soundtrack a couple of times, but nothing in particular stuck. Hermina and Culus ~Atelier Lilie Another Story~ Original Soundtrack - Culus' Big Adventure is rather charming, though, if a bit fluffy and unmemorable. My overall opinion of the piece is positive, however.

I was really bored by Momotaro Denchiku II Best Classics - Hudson Soft Orchestra - Wing of Dawn ~ Riding on the Firebird Goddess---a complete lack of cohesion and compositional creativity. I'll just leave it there!

PSYVARIAR "THE MIX" - Volcano - Kamishimo X68000 mix - was (moderately) fun. Nice tempo and engaging pace. Not much to say in terms of melody, but overall I think this piece is decent.

Savage (Amiga Game Rip) - Level 2 has some awesome beats and some great effects. Catchy, fun and very enjoyable. =)

a P-T-N-O-I lacking cohesion~

3 points: Elebits (Game Rip) - Mission 27: Me and My Little War
2 points: Savage (Amiga Game Rip) - Level 2
1 point: 1st GIG #Awake - The theme of Arcueid
4th: Hermina and Culus ~Atelier Lilie Another Story~ Original Soundtrack - Culus' Big Adventure
5th: PSYVARIAR "THE MIX" - Volcano - Kamishimo X68000 mix -
6th: Detana!! Twinbee - World of the Mold (Stage 4 BGM)
7th: Fighters' Impact - Ancient City -Koto- (Kaede's STAGE)
8th: Momotaro Denchiku II Best Classics - Hudson Soft Orchestra - Wing of Dawn ~ Riding on the Firebird Goddess

Pretty lame week. I only made one good discovery, and some of the tracks were just not pleasant to listen to! (sub]IMO[sub])

SotW Wiki is down until further notice. Hopefully it should be back up tomorrow.

When it's back up, I will have:
1. My server on the newest stable version of PHP.
2. SotW Wiki on the newest stable version of MediaWiki.
3. SotW Wiki on it's own database.
4. Capability to delete old article versions, thus reducing a ton of overhead (which I will be doing, particularly for articles which only grow in size over time).

How ya doing, buddy?

This week seemed standard enough.

There's an obvious point spread staring me in the face right from the start, and I knew it was gonna take something special for me to alter it. Who knows, the quality of past weeks have been stellar, we'll see.

To be honest, I haven't heard much of anything Twinbee outside of Pop'n for the SNES, except Yahho!, which, while catchy, doesn't come close. World of the Mold could've been great if everything didn't happen so fast; blink and it's over.

Not much else to say, really. There's a rock tune which is alright I guess, an orchestral arrangement with an insipid main theme, and a town theme that probably doesn't even play in a town, I don't know.

This week seemed standard enough. Then I listened to the Savage track.

There's a fine line between novelty and Jesus Christ What, and Level 2 clearly surpasses it. I couldn't believe it. How the hell is this in-game music? I needed to know. I quickly found this demonstration run, and during the first 8 minutes, my life changed forever.

2 points: Level 2
2 points: Ancient City -koto- (Kaede's STAGE)
1 point: Mission 27 - Me and my Little War
1 point: Volcano - Kamishimo X68000 mix -

Level 2 gets 2 points simply by association with the stage 1 theme.

(The entire soundtrack consists of only 4 tunes and they all kick ass. 3 of them are in the demonstration vid without sound effects, and the title theme can be found here. WARNING: After hearing these, you may never listen to another song ever again)

(Also interesting enough, "Level 2" doesn't even play during a gameplay segment according to the video)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Pretty shocked I'm not giving any points to MintJam, but Savage is an experience.

Like Darkcomet72, after first discovering the Savage soundtrack, I could barely listen to anything else for a good while. True story.

Also, you should have seen what the magazine ads were like, which were just as zany.

Catalog #: ZMCX-1055
Year: 2000
Source: VGMDB

Check out my original music at my Soundcloud page!

Latest music rips (updated January 10, 2012):

SimCity DS - Jazz/ambient/electronic music including interesting reworkings of songs from the fantastic SimCity 3000 soundtrack
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more
