Band hit their zenith in Demanufacture I guess. I'll check out Archetype and Transgression when I get a chance.

"We Stole the Eagle from the Air Force, the Anchor from the Navy, and the Rope from the Army. On the seventh day, while God rested, we over-ran his perimeter and stole the globe, and we've been running the show ever since. We live like soldiers, talk like sailors, and slap the hell out of both of them. WARRIORS BY DAY, LOVERS BY NIGHT, PROFESSIONALS BY CHOICE, AND MARINES BY THE GRACE OF GOD."

How ya doing, buddy? |
I miss Death. I got into them in high school when I first downloaded Spirit Crusher. At the time, I've never heard anything so heavy, technical and melodic at the same time. I bought Symbolic from a local metal store and fell in love with it, while Sound of Perseverance followed shortly which I fell in love with as well. I didn't care much for Scream Bloody Gore. While Schuldiner helped originate the death metal genre, his genius didn't appear until later.
Just wish I was a little older and knew them sooner to see them in concert. I guess the Live in L.A. DVD will have to do. And the various live videos online of them. R.I.P. Death and Chuck Schuldiner. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Have you checked out Schuldiner's post-mortum Zero Tolerance disc? It's rehearsal sessions, so the sound quality isn't great, but it's definitely worth a listen or two, especially for the cheap price.

No I haven't. I'll have to track it down sometime.

Anything similar to Kamelot you suggest?
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Hey, just wondering VH1 is doing a "metal Month" type thing on their channel where at night I suppose they show metal video's/movies/whatnot. Any opinions on them trying to reach out to the "metal" crowd?
FELIPE NO Take this keycard, you can unlock the doors in the hall with this. Now GO!...JUST go! A hero that lived long enough to see himself become the villain.

I don't think much of it. I saw part of their "Top 40 Metal Songs" program, and it included songs by Korn, AC/DC, and Kiss. None of these are metal bands, in my opinion. And then Slipknot was on there. Perhaps a metal band, but certainly not a very good one.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
VH1's idea of metal is stuck in a top 40 1980s time warp, as well as some of the more popular pseudo-metal bands. The up side, there is supposed to be a new Behind the Music episode featuring Pantera. About fucking time I say! Funny how the band seems to be more popular now that Dimebag died than years before.

Does anybody listen to death metal band called "Haggard" from Germany?
It's like...take classical/medieval style music, and mix with with metal. Throw in a normal male vocalist, a very good growling vocalist, and a very high female voice (which is dominant in most songs). Anyway its really powerful and heavy. There's nowhere I can't reach. FGSFDS!!! |
I like Haggard. I recently bought Eppur Si Muove. Kind of samey with the previous albums, but still good.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Why don't you consider AC/DC and Kiss metal? They were sure as fuck considered metal in 1976.

Some people are a bit to anal about genres these genres. People seem to be forgetting the good ol' days of Rock n Roll baby!! I was speaking idiomatically. |
I'm currently looking for other viking/folk metal bands. I already have the common ones; Finntroll, Moonsorrow, Ensiferum, Wintersun, Einherjer, Asmegin, Korpiklaani, Cruachan, Turisas, Falkenbach, Thyrfing, Tyr, oh and Nerthus. Most of these bands I heard or got from niki and morrigan. Can you guys recommend some other bands of the same genre? I just love this kind of music, heh. (and maybe you can add where I can get it )
P.S. Butterfly Temple owns (*highfive* niki) Most amazing jew boots |
But ANYWAY....yeah, lol. I just prefer bands not to change. FELIPE NO FGSFDS!!! |

Hey, is anyone here going to ProgPower USA in September? I've been to the last two and they kicked ass. A lot of death metal vocals last year, actually.
This year Evergrey, Mercenary, and Jorn are going to perform. I'm so pumped. Most amazing jew boots

Fav. Bands list:
* Traditional/heavy metal/NWOBHM Deep Purple Iron Maiden Judas Priest Thin Lizzy Venom * Speed, power, prog Ambeon Ayreon Blind Guardian The Devin Townsend Band Dream Theater Evergrey Helloween Kamelot Machinae Supremacy <3 Office of Strategic Influence Pain of Salvation Redemption Rush Star One Therion (best category they fit into) Threshold * Death Arsis Chain Collector Death In Flames Mercenary <3 Orphaned Land Soilwork Wintersun * Folk/viking Agalloch <3 Bathory (last two albums) Falkenbach Skyclad Wuthering Heights * Avant-garde Age of Silence Arcturus Estradasphere Frantic Bleep Head Control System Sculptured Subterranean Masquerade The Gathering Ulver <3 * Gothic/Industrial Katatonia The Kovenant Leaves' Eyes Lunatica Nightwish Theatre of Tragedy Waltari I'm completely hyped about Mercenary's The Hours That Remain. Other than that, all signs point to 2006 being a great year for music! Devin Townsend's new CD was great, and Machinae Supremacy's blew me away. There's still plenty to look forward to - New Blind Guardian, new Dream Theater live album, and most importantly, new Agalloch. *orgasm* edit: Huh, Morrigan posts here? Cool. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
How ya doing, buddy? |
He clearly knows you.
The guy with the Metal Archives sig posts here? WTF? I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I eagerly await Agalloch's new album as well. However, I have a hard time classifying Machinae Supremacy as metal. Yes they kick major ass, though I guess songs like Hero do have a metal edge, the rest seem sort of hard rockish.

Pain of Salvation and Evergrey and Machinae Supremacy and Mercenary and Ayreon and Devin Townsend and etc. etc. LOVE. Any thoughts on Evergrey's "Monday Morning Apocalypse"? What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
