Predators

Predators

July 2010

This movie looks like it'll be pretty badass. A planet full of Predators (with different Predator designs!) hunting humans. Synopsis from wiki:

Quote:
The film follows a mercenary named Royce who is abducted by alien creatures known as the Predators. He is released onto an alien planet—which acts as a game reserve—along with seven other humans, who with the exception of a disgraced physician, are all cold-blooded killers consisting of mercenaries and convicts. Royce reluctantly leads the group of elite warriors as they come to realize they have been brought together to this planet as prey for a new breed of Predator. While battling to survive against these creatures, they come across an American soldier known as Noland who was brought to the planet years ago as game, but has managed to survive by hiding from the Predators in a cave. Noland reveals that the Predators have been hunting humans by dropping them on this planet for many years.
I'm so going to see this in the theatre. Just hope it'll be as awesome as the original movies.

discussion start!

Has Robert Rodriguez ever made a film without Danny Treyjo in it?

Looks pretty good though, although I fear they've made the Predator more of a pussy over the years. In the first one, it was damn near unkillable and took on a whole squad of special ops guys without breaking a sweat whereas now there's a whole planet full of the things just to kill seven guys? It's worryingly like Alien vs Predator where the Aliens randomly didn't have acid for blood and weren't that tough and the Predators were a bit clumsy and rubbish shots. It'd be nice to see a return to one super-hard bad guy rather than a whole load of different ones.

It looks like it is sporting a star-studded cast so that is a good sign; it could be a hit or miss though like many of these other modern remakes/sequels. The trailer looked interesting at least so I will probably check it out at the theaters (or at least rent it on DVD).

I haven't seen any of the movies that Nimrod Antal has directed though. Armored looked like it could have been good from the trailers I saw of it, but I never got around to watching it. I never heard of the other two (Kontroll, Vacancy) that he directed.

I think that most people who are fans of the Predator mythos, or whatever you want to call it, will end up asking 'why?' instead of actually downright hating the movie.

It has nothing to do with looking like it's a bad movie, I love me some Adrien Brody, but why are the predators bringing humans to their planet now? What happened to the 'rights of passage' that it was for a young predator to travel to a far off world to either prove that he was fit enough to survive/kill? Even with the idea that they are 'testing' a new breed of predator, wouldn't the same idea fit? Send IT to another planet to see how it survives?

I'm hoping that in some way, shape, or form they answer these questions in the movie. If they don't then it would seem unnecessary for this movie to exist.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Just saw the commercial preview for this last night. About 6 times in an hour.

Unfortunately, at first look this looks like another cut-and-dry Hollywood action movie. A bunch of beefy action stars sweating and grunting their way through a jungle, mowing everything down with machine guns. Lets hope this movie is more than that.

Other than that the new Predators don't look a whole lot different than the old ones, but I noticed that the original Predator seems to be more technology based, while the newer 'breed' seems more organic and natural.

Ok so why didn't anyone know about this until now?

Or I guess they could rationalize it by saying that this was just the first documented incident. Seems strange that a human soldier could be taken away for years with no mention. They probably just presumed him dead.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I think yet another disappointment of 2010. It is watchable and something worth having on in the background if you are doing something more interesting, but otherwise, it's barely good. It's just there, it begins, it ends, and you move on with your life. I was bored in many instances, huge plot holes, the acting was lethargic, Braga's confrontation with Dutch as a child was convenient etc.

Seen it. I was shocked. I wanted to walk away from the theatre. What an awful movie. Nowhere near as good as the first Predator. I just couldn't care about the characters.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
