Lair isn't a launch title I don't think. But yeah, it and Motorstorm both look like a ton of fun.

Launch titles I'm actually interested in are surprisingly Resistance and RR7... Considering that I don't traditionally play FPSs and normal racing games, but the footage shown so far is extremely impressive to me. Actually looks fun. Resistance's huge potential for online play is especially enticing. But I want to get some hands-on time at the demo kiosks before I make any decisions.

Those product photos are very sexy... I like how the L2/R2 buttons turned out. Definately fits the "accelleration pedal" metaphore given earlier.

And thermal on the PS button? Sweet. I gotta say, for being almost exactly the same design as it's been 10 years ago... the controller still looks pretty nice.

Well, I'll attempt to preorder one tomorrow... Nothin' to do in the morning, so I'll likely hang out around the mall before opening and scope it out. If it's just ridiculous, then well... yeah.

The ladies there were photoshopped onto a picture of a barren Gamestop storefront with no one there... Look at the edges of their heads. Doesn't match.

The photo of the people with folding chairs is real though.

Edit: Sleep time... I'll report back with the results of my quest later tomorrow, hah.

Success Showed up at the mall EB at 8:40 or so. Met some rather nice people, and ended up as number 5 out of 12.

First person showed up at 7am, followed by the second at 8. Then after 8:30, people started trickling in. Apparently at the downtown Seattle EB, there were over 100 people lined up outside, with only 3 systems to preorder. I smell BS! But yeah, glad I chose the location I did.

I think "sims" was the word in question he was defending. Arcade style versus Simulator style. The line between the two these days is becoming a tad bit thin though. But you can still tell the difference between Gran Tourismo and Ridge Racer. Or, say, Pangya Golf or WiiSports Golf versus Tiger Woods Golf.

Was that from a video? Rather odd, because the gameplay footage that was videotaped by people from TGA looked really solid once they had a good build running. Same with Lair's qualms. I remember seeing the water and thinking "that looks great" rather than "ew."

Hell yeah. Those videos definately solidified my choice in PS3/resistance gettage.

I showed a few other videos of Resistance to a skeptical friend earlier on too, and he wouldn't stop musing about it Him and his housemates have a lovely HD projector + wall, so provided I can figure how to transport it safely, my PS3 is definately going on a little trip once it arrives.

Few comments regarding the controller, despite my having not used it personally.

A lot of the vibe I get from press peoples reporting about the controller is that they need some outlet to express their negative view on how Sony has continually kept the same design for their controller since the PSX. Yeah, the design isn't as ergonomic as the 360 or GCN, but it doesn't hurt to use it for long periods of time. The PSX's DualShock doesn't have concave analog sticks or shoulder buttons, did the problems of "slipping" come up just recently or have people just not cared for 9-10 years?

A bit of a news-flash is that most controllers until the Wii have been nearly the exact same thing with a different layout. (One or two analog sticks, D-pad, 4 face buttons, varying ammounts of shoulder buttons.) The seeming exception here might be the N64's, but it was essentially the same with the added displeasure of having to switch hand-positions depending on what you wanted to access.

And lastly, why is lightweight a bad thing? If it feels like you can crush it, but you can't, why get negative about it? If it is fragile, sure go ahead. But I've owned a pre-dualshock PSX controller for about 10 years, it feels extremely light (and I actually like it better for playing pre-analog games), yet it still works just as well as it did.

So, people's complaints basically confuse me. Would change be cool? Definately. But if they're sticking with the tried-and-true controller type instead of moving to something radically different, it makes sense to me to keep things similar while adding subtle new features.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Well, they're saying that it can't physically play all its own previous-gen games. Which is true, since there's no cartrage slots or a promise of 100% representation on Virtual Console. Technicalities I'm thinking it's mainly a jab at the 360 though.

It's been made apparent in recent news that PSP games are going to be part of the downloadable "virtual console" stuff on PS3's network. If they're playable on the PS3 (as opposed to having to download them onto a physical PSP), I will be extremely happy. Because I really have no desire to buy one... yet I want to play Lumines and Gunpey like what.

Haha, nice... I just played flOw for several hours... very very addicting. I'm hoping they do add more variety to it, for sure.

If anything, the graphics in the PS3 screenshots look vastly improved compared to the original game even in its simplistic vectory style.

Btw, for a few posts back, flOw is very much not like Electroplankton despite the look It's more like the microscopic-level game from Spore... or rather, it's the predicessor of it, since the same designer is working on that aspect of the game.

Checking out the new shots, thanks as usual Sphere~

Sigma's looking sexy. I'm digging the focused motion blur on the sword in one shot, and the last shot's lighting is definately hot stuff.

I think we've sort of worn out the "nice PS3 photos" though... There isn't much more to show other than more angles, more backgrounds, and more fingerprints.

Awesome, downloading the PSM dealy

Just wanted to let folks know... If you're lacking an HDTV, but you have a monitor with DVI input, there are HDMI->DVI cables out there that should let you connect the PS3. Only about 25ish bucks for a 3 foot cable, which should be long enough.

The only problem though, is that well, my computer uses the monitor's DVI in And if I wanted to get some sort of switchbox, the only option I've been able to find is a DVI KVM Switch which is 160 bucks... Does anyone know of a potentially cheaper solution?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I asked this a few pages back, but it got lost in the Metallic image spam

Like Slayer, I'm going to be using HDMI->DVI for my PS3 connection since I've got a nice 20" wide Dell monitor.

However, does anyone know of a (relatively) cheap solution to be able to plug both my computer and the PS3 into the monitor at once and be able to switch between them without the massive unscrewing requierd for DVI connections?

One solution I have is to take a cut in monitor clarity and just use the VGA connector for my monitor... But ideally that's not the best solution. There's a box out there that can do this, but it's designed for being able to control two computers at once with one monitor and keyboard & mouse, rather than just being a switchbox for DVI inputs.

---

And another, unrelated question: Has anyone checked out their local Best Buys for PS3 kiosks yet? They were supposedly rolled out yesterday the 20th, but I hadn't heard any big fangasm about them since the allegedly false PS3 fanboy lineup from earlier in the week. I was going to check it out today, but wanted to check with other folks first before depleting a chunk of my day

Male to female cord seems to be the best option in this case I think The switchbox is on backorder, dunno if it would get back in stock by release. Male-female option is also a bucketload cheaper, though of course still requires screwing in the cable. But it beats dealing with the back of the monitor.

Work on GT5 (though I won't play it anyways), and release a 2-track demo on the PS3 network for those interested.

Commercial didn't make much sense really other than what the voiceover was talking about.. Why did the lady's living room blow up?

http://www.playb3yond.com/ New content on this site though.

Only two videos up so far, but these honestly should be the promo ads. They communicate well the console's strengths in layman's terms.

Gah... Looks like they still haven't fixed the terrible camera, Sonic's control looks extremely jerky. Like he's going too fast to get precision over where exactly you want him to go. It just looks extremely rough.

Visuals are really great in HD (though the animation gets pretty bad in some spots), but if the gameplay is shoddy...

Jam it back in, in the dark.
