Cool, so PS3 will be launched in Europe in 2012 or so, hehe

No seriously, I think even Sony doesn't know anything about when to launch and for how much money.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Well either way they're financially fucked as far as the PS3 hardware is concerned. Odds are the production costs for one PS3 are about 800~900 bucks, so a price below 500 bucks would seriously surprise me.

Hey guys, I don't think I gonna read all the posts in this thread (lol), but I have a question: Is it true that some (or maybe all?) PS2 games run in HD resolution after the latest update?

Yeah, from what I have read on other message boards, the upscaling feature must be pretty awesome. Now I just hope that Sony's going to improve backwards compatibility for us Europeans

Grandia in HD, how cool is that.

Argh, I wanted to wait until fall when all the good games were supposed to be availabe (and of course I was hoping for a price drop), but now the possibility to watch all my DVDs in HD is making things much more complicated =/

Has anyone made experience with the DVD upscaling so far? I'm talking about movies, not PSX/PS2 games.

Did you buy a PS3 already?
No, not yet. But this is getting more and more attractive. I mean, this upscaling feature sounds pretty cool. You could also wonder whether it's necessary to get Blu-Ray discs after all when the difference between Blu-Ray and upscaled DVDs is probably very small. It won't be cheaper until October anyway. The only problem I see is that the backward compability still pretty much sucks ass. Though I read that Grandia works, so who knows...

edit: Elixir, the announcement said that the PS3 could upscale UP TO 1080p, which means that 1080i and 720p should be included as well, I guess.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

There is much improvement as far as DVDs are concerned, some as far as PS2 games are concerned (depending on the game, I can't see any difference with FFX but Burnout: Revenge looks awesome, for instance) and PSX games like Grandia don't exactly run in "high definition" mode now but it's pretty nice. There is not a single PS2 game (well I don't have much, but sttill) which makes problems, which is pretty cool, too.

My screen can't display 1080p, but 1080i looks pretty good!

Isn't it possible to connect the PS3 directly to the computer without using any router?

Is there any indication as to why it would not be possible?
Well no, I was just wondering because everyone was talking about using a router (?)

Ok im thinking of my impending PS3 purchase, and Id like some opinions on whether now is a good enough time to buy it or should I wait for some upgrade that may come in the near future (like this year). Im thinking rumble controllers and other such things i hear are in the future.
I was in the same situation a week ago. Originally, I wanted to get it in October when the first good games are announced to finally be available. But the latest firmware update 1.80 brought so many cool features, especially the upscaling feature, and I came to the conclusion that there was no difference between buying it now for 600€ and buying it in October for 600€.

It's pretty much like that: If you primarily want a gaming console, it's not the right time yet because besides two or three games, the game lineup is pretty much a disaster, that's why I don't have a PS3 game yet either. But if you want a nice Blu-Ray player and a DVD-player with extremely good upscaling, this might be interesting for you (needless to say, you gonna need a good TV for that). The upscaling of PSX/PS2 games isn't that spectacular, but you can see a difference, at least I did.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I'm already looking forward to October when they gonna launch that awesome "Home" network. I heard it's possible to listen to your friends' pirated MP3s and watch their moviez before they can be seen in the theatres. This is going to be astounding, I wonder what the RIAA will say about that.

There will be DRM restrictions in place, trust me on that. Sony is out to make money with Home at some point in the future, they won't just ruin everything beforehand.
This is why you probably gonna have to pay a lot of money to equip your avatar with Adidas shoes and D&G sunglasses and shit like that. The difference between Home and SecondLife shouldn't be too big.

Is it available in the PS3 online store? I am not at home so I'm unable to check!

That FolksSoul game is pretty bizarro, man! It's nice, though, not something that made me go "WOW!" but it was a nice experience. The Everybody's Golf 5 demo, however, is awesome. It's extremely fun to play, the graphics and details are just neat and I think I played it like ten times in a row today

Yeah, well, it's a nice demo to test the SIXAXIS feature, but other than that, it's pretty much useless to me, that MIGHT be because I don't understand what the fuck they're saying, too.

Version 1.81 didn't really get us anything exciting, no? However, I notice that ALL my PS2 games are 100% compatible now which is awesome to the max. Now I can play Burnout Revenge with WHEELS on my car (wasn't possible before)

Good to hear though. Seeing how you're in Germany guess that means you have a PAL PS3?
Yes I do. My PS2 game collection isn't that large, but I suppose that most important games should be 100% compatible now.

Well I don't really think that any of those games are "must own" games (in my opinion, the "must own" era starts in October with GTA IV), but hey, it's nice the games are comin' after all

I like how people still complain about the price. There's a Blu-Ray-DVD drive built in, you fags, that makes the PS3 one of the cheapest Blu-Ray-DVD players on the market. If you're just interesting in playing HD games, you could as well buy a XBOX 360.

High quality has a high price. This isn't a console for hipsters.
