Honestly, this is obviously JUST me or something, but the $200 difference between the 360 and the PS3 is like 2 1/2 days of work. Maybe 3. If you're lazy. If you're so strapped for cash that you really CANNOT afford that extra couple days of work for something that will provide you with two high tech items (new game console / BlueRay player), then maybe you shouldn't be spending your money on games in the first place.

Dare I say that in the long run, today $200 isn't really a lot of money? I mean, this shit dosen't go away in a month. It'll stick around for a while. You'll play it. You'll get your moneys worth. I know that I will anyways...

What is the main purpose of having Linux installed on the PS3? Programming?

I wonder if this means it can sort of relate to the PSP with the development of homebrew. Could we possibly someday see home created emulators and play roms straight from the PS3's hard drive?

Or am I just dreaming, and totally misinterpreting what having Linux installed means?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I'd guess they would still most likely still sell like hot cakes. I mean, if it was already initially selling good, then a price drop could only boost sales, right?

Anyways, I don't understand why people aren't talking more about the whole Linux / programming thing. Am I the only one who thinks the idea of playing the entire library of almost all the old school consoles via emulators on the PS3 incredibly awesome? Hell, what if they somehow managed to implement online play with that shit...that would make the PS3 three times cooler than it already seems to be.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

This might be a dumb question, but how much of the entire gaming market does Japan make? I mean, are there more profits in games there as opposed to here?

I can see it now. People are going to program the first viruses for a videogame console.

Anyways, the only thing I can really think of comming out of the whole PS3 homebrew scene are emulators, which would totally negate the whole Nintendo library on the Wii. Anyone else have any cool ideas?

How ya doing, buddy?

Isn't Assassins Creed also being released on the 360? Correct me if I'm wrong...

Honestly, I'll be picking up a PS3 because I have yet to be let down by Sony. I know - I'm a mindless Sony fanboy. I admit it.

Oh. And for MGS4/FFXIII/DMC4/RE5.

Sort of price cut?
Woot. IGN confirmation.

According to these guys, the 20gb 'Core' model is going to be recieving a price cut, but this is currently a Japan exclusive. Do we have to wait for SCEA for any word of a U.S. price cut?

Oh, also the inclusion of HDMI in the core model.

2 HDMI ports on the 60 GB PS3?
(Half way down the page)

Interesting...I've never heard of this 'letter box' setup before. What's it used in? Do you guys really think this is plus, or do you think that it just raises the price of the 60 GB model? I know that I would never use two HD TV's lined up next to one another...(Hell. I would never be able to even afford two HD TV's ! Not anytime soon, anyways.)

Well, I sort of agree. I was just thinking though, wouldn't this be amazing for multiplayer? I mean, you would only need a single PS3 and a single game for something similar to a Halo LAN party (blasphemy!). I don't know. I hate to say it, but I'm usually the kind of guy who goes for the better/more expensive version of almost anything I purchase. I think I may be doomed to the 60 GB version . Unless I get lucky on Christmas...

Double Post:
PS3 is MUTE.
Just read this via Evil Avatar. Honestly, this is a pretty big plus for me. My roomate has an X-Box 360, and whenever I play it I literally have to turn up the volume on our surround sound just to drown out the noise the console creates. The external power brick is also annoying as hell - glad to see the PS3 eliminating this annoyance. This is one reason the PS3 is so massive, I guess.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Hey, I know you guys already talked about this a while ago, but up to 7 controllers on one console? I thought the pictures of the controllers only showed the option for 4, with a light indicating what player you are?

Are there only 4 lights because they believe this will be the standard?

Well, don't you need to store the games/images/whatever onto these memory cards to play on the PSP, as it contains no internal storage? Simple connectivity via usb to transfer onto the memory card I guess would also work, but perhaps this is for convenience purposes. I actually do recall seeing a video of the PS3's photo viewer, reading photos from a SD card or something like it...

I was just thinking, are memory cards a thing of the past now? I mean like actual PlayStation memory cards. Can all of your saves be saved onto any old card now? Sort of like the PSP? I can't believe I don't know the answer to this...or didn't think about it before for that matter.

Has anybody gotten a PS3 kiosk in at their local Best Buys yet? Weren't you guys saying that they were supposed to start going up today? I'm curious to go check it out and see if they have a playable PS3 up and running...

Quick question about something I remember hearing a long ass time ago - do the controllers utilize Bluetooth? Or do they use some other kind of signal as a medium? I remember hearing something about this like literally over a year ago. Is this possibly one of the reasons why Bluetooth devices are compatible with the PS3?

So, whats up with the Best Buy kiosks? I thought I read we were supposed to be getting these things in all over the US like, a week ago.

And on a side note - wasn't the Play Station network originally going to be called the "Play Station Hub," or something like that? is "PlayStation" one word or two ...

How ya doing, buddy?

Ah. I walked into my Best Buy today and didn't really notice anything involving the PS3, so I was a little curious to what was going on.
Quote:
Oh, isn't it one word? I'm guessing they're just including the 'S' in there because of the previous consoles, and how the names is often shrunk down to PS-X.
Yeah, I wasn't sure. After I typed my message, I was just looking at what I wrote, and "Play Station" looked kind of funny. "Playstation" didn't really look right either, but for some reason "PlayStation" (with a cap 'S') looked ok. Weird.

I still think they should expand on these commercials and implement the ads they have on their www.playb3yond.com website. Yeah, they may be too long to actually air on TV, but you have to admit - these ones are just...clever. They really make me want a PS3.

Umm...I didn't see any gameplay footage. Isn't that just the regular old rubix cube commercial? Unless something's wrong with my computer...

Or are you talking about the ads that are on www.playb3yond.com? They have the ones that talk about the cell processor and the capacity of the blue-ray. They have more in development as well, so I check back there every once in a while to see if they have any of their new ones that are supposedly 'coming soon'.

I went to Best Buy yesterday. About 30 tents rapped around the store, all the way to the back lot. I went inside. I waited 30 minutes to try out the new PS3 demo kiosk. I decided to play Motor Storm. I came.

There is no way I cannot purchase this system. I want it. Bad.

When do you guys think we will see the first price drop .

Well, yeah...but when you only have NBA '0-whatever and Motorstorm to choose from, I think it's pretty clear what most people would choose to play. I'm sure its not technically perfect, but it was still fun and pretty to look at it.

Ha. Does anybody remember Kill Zone 2? I Just saw this short article over at GameSpot
Originally Posted by GameSpot
Ever since its controversial trailer fired up 2005's Electronic Entertainment Expo, the forthcoming Killzone game for the PlayStation 3 has been missing in action. It was nowhere to be seen at a variety of high-profile events, including E3 2006 and the 2006 Tokyo Game Show. The shooter wasn't even mentioned at the Gamers' Day events Sony held to help hype the launch of the PS3.

Today, the long silence on the game was broken by the Dutch newspaper de Volksrant. In an article titled, "A video game more expensive than the most expensive film," the daily highlights the next-gen Killzone and its developer, Amsterdam-based and Sony-owned Guerilla Games. The piece's name comes from the fact that the game is costing more to develop than the priciest film in Dutch history, director Paul Verhoeven's World War II thriller Black Book (Zwartboek).

While Black Book cost more than 16 million euros (approximately $21 million), Guerilla won't mention specific numbers for Killzone's budget. "Our budget tops [the film]," said Killzone director Arjan Brussee. "We're working on the biggest multimedia project in Dutch history."

Killzone's high cost is due to the labor-intensive development nature of graphically demanding next-generation games. "Work that used to take someone a week now takes him a month," said Brussee. Currently, some 120 developers are working on Killzone--roughly three times the staff of the first Killzone. Interestingly, half of dev tem comes from outside the Netherlands, up from one third on the PlayStation 2 original.

Another factor driving up the game's price tag is localization, as the new Killzone will be fully translated in 20 different languages. This effort will pay off in the long run, Brussee thinks. "You sell 30 to 40 percent more [units] with a translated version," he said.

The Volksrant article also confirmed suspicions that Killzone will have downloadable content via the PS3's online PlayStation Store. "The Killzone that is in stores is only the beginning," promised Brussee. Though the developer did not go into specifics, the newspaper mentioned that new "chapters" will be downloadable, raising the prospect of episodic content.
I have to admit, I completely forgot about this game over the last year with the lack of news on it, but it looks like it's slowly starting to surface. The budget is over $21 million so far? That seems like a lot for a video game, or is that just a lot for a Dutch game . Could this game actually live up to the trailer we saw back in 2005? And how high do the budget of most games usually run?

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I was hoping that it would just be, you know, free downloadable maps or something . It's what some developers do for the PSP, anyways...

I thought I read a while ago that the director of Kill Zone 2 was refusing to show anymore footage of the game until it looks exactly like it did in the trailer. I know I'm hanging on a thin thread here, but is it at least even possible?

Jam it back in, in the dark.
