Hey now, don't just assume that every video game store employee is an idiot. I don't know where that dumbfuck got information that the PS3 would have two versions, but he or she is full of it.

A.) Hasn't Sony already denounced Microsoft for releasing two versions of the 360 and thus "confused the marketplace?"

B.) No one in the top shelf of the company has released any information like that, so that particular employee was making shit up.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

But don't overgeneralize. Some of us aren't retarded. That particular person might have just misinterpreted something or made an assumption -- it happens. If a writer at GameSpot said it, would you be denouncing them as well?

If I sound a little too defensive, I don't mean to. But I fall into that EB/Gamestop employees category and I don't make stupid assumptions like that. At least, not anymore. >___>;

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Oh God knows what I've told some people. I mean, I am a salesperson, right? The worst I've ever done was tell someone a game was good. A recent example...

Customer: "AYO DAT FITTY SENT GAME ANY GOOD?!"
Me: "Oh yeah, it's a great game. Really, it's one of the best third-person action titles out there, right alongside True Crime: New York City."
Customer: "AWW SHIIIIIIT U FO REEL?! DAYUM! LEMME GET BOF COPEES!"
Me: "Allright then. Good choice!"

Somethin' like that. XD

-Starting this fall, the PSP will use RSS channel features. Video and voice-over-IP will release in October in "motion jpg" format. The PSP's own version of the EyeToy will launch a month earlier in September and the peripheral will feature EyeToy Play and video chat. The camera is sliver and it attaches to the USB port.
Finally, some new info on the camera attachment. I can't flippin wait to get that -- I will SO buy into that gimmick, so long as I can take pictures as well. That'd be so great. What would be even better is if it could also work on the PC. Here's hoping.

I got a little goin when I read that the PS3's hard drive will be mounted on the Linux OS. It's like a poking war between Sony and Microsoft.

"Hey guess what? I'm usin LINUX."
"Wut? Use Windows, fool."
"I'm just doin it to piss you off. -poke-" >__>;

Edit: Fuck it, I'll still pay $500 for the box. I want my PS3.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

No. Here's the difference -- bongos have no use outside of three games. A camera on the other hand would, as (like I stated in my post if you'd take the time and read it) long as I could use it like a standard camera. I would also expect it to, upon connecting to a wireless network, be able to transfer images to another PSP.

That's actually something useful. Compared to, you know, a bongo. Don't start this shit again with me Berto, please?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I'm really excited about the news of Ratchet and Clank making the jump to PS3. I was fearful that, like the Jak and Daxter series, R&C was over after Deadlocked as far as consoles were concerned.

Hopefully with this announcement will soon come a similar one regarding Sly Cooper and Jak and Daxter.

Most likely just the games, like the way it is with the PSP. Movies are under a different copyright law than games are, so I've heard.

About the Ratchet and Clank game -- I read somewhere that the city they were overlooking was similar to one in a Star Wars game; something that started with a C. Oh well.

Since importing isn't mainstream, and it'll be something exclusive to the PS2, don't count on it Soldier. The store I work at is huge, and we wouldn't even have any room for a PS3 import section.

Come to think of it, I wonder what's going to happen when we add the two new sections....

I'm happy about this region-free stuff though. Now I can import Namco x Capcom if it came out in Europe and Rogue Galaxy if it doesn't come to the States.

I thought Europe was also included in the same region? I was under the impression that, for the most part, PAL and NTSC were combined into Region 1.

Poor India was, however, left out. At least to my knowledge.

Now that I've seen it though, I'm actually considering buying it. How would this work with the PS3?

What are you talking about Rab? Just because a system doesn't have a new controller design doesn't mean it won't be innovative.

The Blu-Ray discs will allow developers to add a lot more content for one. There's also still the EyeToy to consider along with any other peripherals they might come out with.

The PS3's not going to miss out on new gameplay elements -- if anything, the Revo will. Third-party developers may very possibly shy away from porting their titles to the Revolution due to lack of disc space and the sheer amount of dumbing-down they'd have to do as far as both content and graphics.

The poor Revolution's gonna be swamped with firsty-party titles and will likely end up with slack exclusives from third-parties. You can keep your ridiculously high hopes up for the Revo if you want, but I doubt it'll be worth it.

Holy crap, I lol'd pretty hard there. Makes me wonder how much profit Donkey Konga turned.

Besides that Rab, I would assume that you of all people would know what you said is false -- look at Super Smash Bros. Melee! I hate that game for all that it is, but I won't deny that it's the Cube's best selling game, and it has more than turned a profit for Nintendo. The same goes for Halo and the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Here's another concept you're overlooking Rab. SSBM, Halo, GTA....they all spend mega-bucks making these quality games. I can only imagine that Driver 3's production costs wren't very close to what GTA's were. Games like Stuart Little, Finding Nemo, etc. won't have the same production costs as Halo, GTA, or SSB Melee.

Even if they don't turn a profit, their losses may have been negligible at best.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I may be a little biased, but your best bet would be to reserve one at a GameStop/EB Games. We'll probably start taking reserves earlier, and depending on your area, chances are we'll have more available for pre-order from the get-go.

You know what would be great? If Sony only charged $50 for games. The prices haven't really been announced. Of course EA is gonna charge $60 anyway (Take the PSP for example).
Then again, a PSP game's production values are nearly as high as PS2 games, hence the price tag for the games. I suppose, regarding the PS3, it'll come down how much developers actually use the BR discs. If they fill an entire disc with graphics and content, sure it'll be a pretty penny. But if they keep it average, who knows?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm surprised some of you thought that was new information. Kutaragi made that announcement back during the GDC, if memory serves me correctly. I remember GameSpot said that the PS3's US price point will likely be between $400 and $450.

And a billion dollar loss for the first year will be insane, granted. But Sony's also banking on Blu-Ray tech to ease their pain a little bit, and you know software sales will be all but through the roof, and likely accessory sales will give them a boost too. All that new technology (and old tech a la 60GB hard drive) will certainly bring them a big loss.

I was speaking idiomatically.

......Ohhh fuck. I'm gonna absolutely hear it at work tomorrow. I can't count the number of times I've said "No no, it's not gonna be $600. I doubt it'll even be $500. Sony's European rep mentioned a price point around $4-450." And then of course there's the "It'l come standard with a 60GB hard drive."

Goddamnit. I'm still buying one regardless, just sucks that it's gonna be so expensive. Maybe Sony'll pull an April's Fool joke or something and announce the real price of the PS3.

And maybe I'll wake up from that dream...

The biggest disappointment about the $500 model is the lack of memory card slots and internal Wi-Fi. The lack of HDMI outputs means little to me, as I don't have a high-def TV. But, I'll still fork over the $600. T_T Oh, my wallet's already crying.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Quote:
That is EXACTLY my point. If you think only a small portion of people will be of this mindset, you are mistaken. Money matters. People have options. When you are getting into the range of $500+, for ONLY the console, you are competing against other high dollar items. Motorcycles, HDTV's, Boats, ATV's. I mean this is not just a toy or fun-machine. This is a "Entertainment Console". To buy this you need to be serious about gaming (aka hardcore).

In part, you're right Dayvon. $500+ could buy someone a good piece of merchandise. But take a look at the demographics -- the average gamer is a 28 year old male, if I remember correctly. I'd imagine that most 28 year old guys are either fairly recently out of college or have been in the workforce for about a decade, possibly at the same job. Assuming that, it's likely they've got enough capacity and earning power to save up for a PS3. Hell, I'm 23 and I've got enough earning power to buy a PS3.

Then there's also this -- the PS3 will almost assuredly be a major catalyst for high-def entertainment. If someone's iffy about buying a high-def TV because they don't know how much they'll use it, the PS3 will give them enough reason to upgrade; both PS3 games and Blu-Ray movies will likely be the reasons a large majority of gamers upgrade to high-def if they haven't already.

The PS3 will sell out worldwide, no question. People will just be a little peeved they had to drop so much money. Although I don't know -- with so many people disappointed about not having preordered their Xbox 360's and now waiting forever to get one, maybe people will learn their lesson and preorder the PS3, and pay on it slowly. That would certainly make the overhead cost seem much less severe.
