Pig Destroyer fucking OWN.

That said, I haven't really listened to much (if any) black/death metal lately. I've been living on noise music mostly -- with Iron Maiden/Mercyful Fate/Dio binges occasionally. Although I do still listen to (and love) grindcore.

Also, The Axis of Perdition are probably the best "black" metal band ever. Well, I guess the easiest genre to put them in would indeed be black metal.. although I guess post-black metal (what) would be nice. Bleh.

Right now?

Iron Maiden
Mercyful Fate
Dio
Black Sabbath
The Axis of Perdition

I probably still can listen to (and enjoy) all kinds of metal (except the prog, melodic death, power, etc etc styles), though. Haven't really done so over the past month or so (give or take a few weeks).

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Meshuggah have never sounded like anything other than crap to me.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I guess so. I respect their technical ability, but haven't been able to like their music.

I do like Ruins very much though.. but then, they're not metal.

I never really listened to Pantera all that much, but what I have listened to I have enjoyed.

So holy shit I forgot about Boris. Awesomeness right there.

So I heard of this (according to others) killer doom/sludge band called Corrupted from Japan. Any good?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I've heard very little of Shining's stuff, but from what I've heard I can say that I much prefer guitarist Casado's previous band, Silencer.

So, like, have Sabbath been overlooked all this while?

Also, totally not metal but lol @ the Pistols.

I've never been much of a fan of Dream Theater/similar bands. They're good musicians, certainly -- but I'm no big fan of their compositions. Not all that bad, but I much prefer other styles/genres.

Sometimes the solos just irritate me too.

I've recently started really getting into Isis and Pelican. I like them a lot. Pretty good stuff. I guess you could say listening to noise music has helped me in "getting" both bands -- I can definitely see why people would call them "boring" or whatnot.

Of course, not many people would call noise music "boring". More like "THAT'S NOT FUCKING MUSIC!"

As in "boring" or as in "THAT'S NOT MUSIC"?

Because, if it's the latter, the person(s) that said that must never have listened to any Merzbow (or any other noise act).

Also, Godflesh is awesome. As might be evidenced by my new avatar/sig.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

After a hell of a long time going without any black metal, I've gotten re-acquainted with it via Ildjarn's "Strength and Anger". And I like it lots.

Production is actually total crap, but I can actually discern all the instruments involved. Besides, listening to noise "music" has helped me keep my "edge" in terms of tolerating/enjoying bad production.

Any opinions on Necrophagist?

I used to quite dislike them (partly due to the insane praise they got just for being quite gifted on their instruments) but I guess I've kind of warmed up to them. Their precision playing does occasionally turn me off, though... but overall I guess their technicality kind of works.

Not too keen on "Epitaph" but "Onset of Putrefaction" is quite nice.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I don't get how CoB are horrible. Granted, they're not the best band out there (hell, they're probably on the "not-too-good" side) but I don't think they're horrible.

I listened to Dragonforce once. I thought they were pretty crappy. But then I don't like power metal much (if at all), so I guess my opinion doesn't really matter anyway. I like Dark Moor quite a bit, though.

I've been listening to this Dutch death metal band Phlebotomized a bit recently, and have been enjoying them quite a bit. Everyone seems to call them a "Christian band", but I dunno. I've read the lyrics and such and nothing seems to really, really support that. If anything, the lyrics are a bit... eh, how do I say it... "thoughtful"? Kinda abstract too maybe. Not sure. Or maybe I've just been missing the obvious all along? Who knows.

The music's pretty good though...

Perhaps knkwzrd's statement had some sarcasm in it? I dunno.

I kind of like Slayer. Just haven't listened to them (or any metal at all, honestly) in a long, long time. Heh.

Most of the time I prefer bands with "non-clean" vocals, be it growls or black metal-esque screams. But, in the end it depends on the band and the genre of music they play. As Morrigan mentioned, some bands would sound stupid with different vocal styles.

Yeah, I kind of noticed that. The English seemed to improve a bit too, although I can't help but laugh whenever I see the track title "Tragedies Blows at Horizon". Oh maaaan.
