System of a Down
Iron Maiden
Rhapsody
Megadeth
Pantera
3 inches of blood

Ok, Thanks, just curious...

Anyone here a System of a Down fan, if so, where would you classify them, Genre-wise? (It seems to be hard for people to classify them)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Have any of you guys heard of Rhapsody? They're awesome, like an Italian(but sing in English) Sci-Fi Fantasy Metal Band! It's awesome, if you want an idea what they're like, download the song "Emerald Sword" or go to their site here for more details...

I've only recently started listening to Opeth, and I'm impressed, some of this is really good! I've heard so much about Opeth, so I figuered I'd be dissapointed when I actually listened to them, but they're awesome! I just dl'd Windowpane and Deliverance, both are really good songs, also downloading In My Time of Need, The Drapery Falls, and Ghost of Perdition, that fits with my five song limit. I always dl only 5 songs from a group, and if I like them enough I'll buy an album, if not, I've got a good opinion on some of their stuff now. I think Opeth might warrant a buy yet!

Some unsigned shitty band, of which I found their whole free CD online, they suck, but were free, so I figuered I'd chuck some out there...lol...I should have apologized in advance.

This might sound like sacralidge(sp?) but I've never been a huge Slayer fan actually, I mean I'd listen to them if I had too, but there are many bands I'd rather listen to...

For the System of a Down fans out there:

Can you believe that Lonely Day is the latest single off of Hypnotize? I would have thought it would have been something like Tentative or Stealing Society, but I never saw that one coming...Oh well, I guess they want to show their softer side to the public everyonce and a while...

I agree with "most of their fans", the lyrics weren't great, and the song in general wasn't very enjoyable...

The "pie" song is Vicinity of Obsenity, and I believe (correct me if I'm wrong), that the "terracotta pie" is referring to a certain part of the female reproductive system. The "banana" being the male reproductive organ.

How ya doing, buddy?

Hey, what's that supposed to mean, there are some very good lyrics in SOAD songs, sure there's some "bad apples", but don't write off all their stuff. Admittedly their newer stuff has been getting worse, but look at some of their older stuff off of Toxicity or Steal This Album.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Yeah, I appreciate the harder stuff, though I don't know if you heard songs such as Highway Song or Roulette off of Steal This Album, those aren't as hard, but still have a distinct charm.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I disagree, I think metal bands should be able to dabble in other types of music, just like any other band of any genre, I like bands who mix it up a bit genre-wise. Like I said before, I appreciate the harder stuff from SOAD more than some of their newer, shittier soft stuff, but I can appreciate some acoustic from time to time, especially when it's done well.

Well sorry...

Anyways, question for the Winnipeg folks here, know of any good metal shows coming up soon? I (regretfully) missed the Opeth show, so I'm in need of a good metal show to go to soon.

Thanks knkwzrd, I'll have to make note of that...Not too excited about Mastodon and Lamb of God, but Slayer and the rest should be ok.

Wow, I listened to Dream Theater for the first time yesterday...

I had never heard anything they did (for some reason), but they're amazing!

I dl'd Glass Prison, Under the Glass Moon, As I Am, and two others that I don't remember, but they were all awesome!

Anyone have suggestions on a good album, because I'll probably pick one up when I have cash?

Man, I haven't been in these forums forever, I'll update my music tastes at the moment.

Top 5 metal bands I listen to at the moment.

Opeth
Mastodon
Dream Theater
Trivium(ironic, as this whole page is about them)
3 inches of blood

I missed the chance to go to a Mastodon show in Montreal, that pissed me off, as I'd have loved to go to Montreal AND see Mastodon.

Anyone here bought Blood Mountain yet?

I only recently started listening to Rush, and WOW, I was missing out. Rush is now one of my favourite bands ever. Best part, their albums are like 7.99 each at HMV, it's kick ass!

There are SO many covers of Rush songs that have been done too, EVERYONE has covered Tom Sawyer at some point.(MSI, Deadsy, Beastie Boys(just a remix), etc...)

So yeah, definitely check out Rush!

I know where you're coming from musically too, I love TONS of different styles of music, Alexisonfire IS awesome, but I get dissed from metal and hardcore friends for listening to them. Also, I listen to lots of Indie stuff, which also gets dissed lots, but stuff like Death From Above 1979 and Metric (even though both of those bands broke up), and pretty much anything off of Last Gang Records is wicked. I also listen to TONS of Neil Young, I own like 16 Neil Young albums!(If you're looking for good guitar work, check out some Neil Young stuff from the 70's, some is wicked, especially albums such as Zuma(1975) and if you're into Blues Rock, check out RE-AC-TOR(1982). I know it's not metal and I shouldn't be pushing it in the Metal thread, but it might work for you...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
