So, I was washing dishes yesterday and listening to the metal channel on our digital cable, and I heard a song by Epicurean. I thought it was pretty fucking awesome, what with my predilection towards the more melodic forms of metal.


Then I thought "Goddammit, System of a Down isn't metal." Then they played some Byzantine, and all was fine.

Anyways, to the point: anyone have any Epicurean? I'll play you in backrubs.

I've been listening to the Buried Inside album that KrelEN posted in the MEC months ago, and it's pretty damned good. <3 minimalist metal with hardcore screaming.

The Diablo Swing Orchestra album was uploaded to the MEC a while back, and I have to say that it's fucking groovy. love it to pieces. I've got Poetic Pitbull Revolution bookmarked on my mp3 player for use in a future mix cd.

See, I hate Limp Bizkit, but there's still some KoRn that I actually enjoy (see: Untouchables, Issues).

But what about Crotchduster. They're about as metal as they come, and they aren't angry.

Also, if anger is the only criteria we're going by here, then everything Trent Reznor touches (except for perfect drug and ghosts i-iv) is pure metal. Boy has issues.

I didn't think that was anger, I thought that was "holy fuck he's claustrophobic, so this will be fucking hilarious/creepy" I mean, they put Malefic in the back of a HEARSE. It's so absurd it reaches simultaneous heights of hilarity/horror.

A friend of mine is letting me borrow a couple of grindcore-ish albums:

Swarrrm - Nise Kyuseishu Domo
Holy fucking shit. Seriously, I swear the Japanese are better at making fucking batshit insane noisy music than Americans are. I mean, look at fucking Merzbow, Boris, and Melt Banana. Oh and this. I have no clue what the hell was going on in the album, but it's largely enjoyable. There seems to be actual song structure going on, too. Maybe.

Anaal Nathrakh - Hell Is Empty, and All the Devils Are Here
Again. Fucking nuts, but in a completely different way. I guess that's the difference between death/grind (this album) and avant/grind (the other album). There's moments of eerie beauty on this bitch.

I may be uploading both to the MEC sometime soon.

I was seriously going to bump this thread because I've been absorbing Om's "Advaitic Songs" for about a month now, and holy shit. It's completely fabulous.

Another album I've been spinning too much is Diablo Swing Orchestra's Pandora's Piñata. I know that calling them "metal" might be a bit off, but then genre descrtors really aren't sufficient given how much stuff they just throw in nowadays. Whatever they are, I've listened to the full album at least twice a week since it came out.
