Imagine that meeting.

"Hey guys, what should we do for the $150 super edition of the game?"

"How about we include replica night vision goggles?"

"That is a terrible idea, what is wrong with you?"

"Ok fine. How about we include fully functional night vision goggles."

"DO IT"

This shit is likely to get people into more trouble than even those damn brass knuckles, even if these are legal.

Gotta wonder just how shitty they are going to be though, considering the price point.

In before they'll also have an Ultra Prestige edition, now it has a M4 with SOPMOD.

Either way, the prestige looks fuckin' ballin'. However I am not sure if I should get it.

Probably.

What the fuck? No really, what the god damn fuck? Can Activision refrain from making some ridiculous piece of shit plastic edition to go with their games?

The steelbook looks nice enough though, that said nowhere is showing it available for ordering yet.

Are you kidding, Omagnus? Combine these night vision goggles with the Batarang from Arkham Asylum and you've got the best night out ever.

They'll keep making stupid shit to put in Limited Edition boxes just as long as people idiots keep buying them.

I do actually own quite a few collectors editions and shit but I've never paid more than the standard game costs. I suspect I may not be able to get my hands on these night vision goggles (Or the batarang) for such a low price. That said, Amazon generally discounts the fuck out of CE's after a week or so (As there aren't enough retards to pay full price for a slightly different case and some extra kawaii artwork in Britain generally) so there will probably be a few of these knocking about cheap somewhere down the line. Hell, Amazon still have that silly Halo 3 with a helmet edition in stock.

See I am getting the Batman Arkham Asylum collector's edition, more for the book than the batarang (though that is cool), but through discounts and what-not I'm not paying more than a few quid over the standard game price. This though, with night vision goggles, is probably going to be ludicrously expensive. Plus looking at the video, they looked pretty damn cheap and tacky. I actually was really surprised when he said they were functional NVGs.

You can buy night vision goggles off amazon, so I expect they are legal, at least, in gun totin' America. They've got some cheap toy ones (that claim to be functional) for like $70, and some serious business ones that range from $700 to $3000+.

I'm just going to go with the steelbook version though, who needs more plastic crap at this point?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I agree with Omagnus though; the tin looks amazing. Does it have the concept art book on it too?

It may be the version I may only get.

The steelbook seems to have everything that the Prestige Edition has minus the goggles, so I imagine the markup on that thing won't even justify the price.

There's nothing illegal about night vision goggles, Skills was saying that they might cause problems like the brass knuckles did, despite the fact that night vision goggles are perfectly legal (unlike knuckle dusters).

And you don't need more plastic crap but you do need a metal dvd case?

Edit: Ha ha ha, Amazon are listing the standard edition as having a £55 rrp (Discounted already to £44.96). There's no way I'd buy this on release date, it'll be half that price within two weeks. Interestingly, they're showing Halo ODST as £49.99 discounted to £29.96. I'm amazed that Amazon would think that MW2 is going to outsell a Halo game, especially as ODST comes with Beta access for Halo Reach. The H3 Beta sold thousands of copies of Crackdown after all.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

This is true, but there is also how CoD4 multiplayer eventually became more popular on Live than Halo 3 multiplayer (which had till then been #1). Dunno what the situation is now, but they're certainly not playing Team Fortress 2.

Seems the Prestige Edition has a price:

Quote:
Activision UK hasn't been able to give us a price for the Modern Warfare 2 "Prestige Edition" yet, but over in the US Infinity Ward has said that it will have a suggested retail price of USD 149.

Also according to the Infinity Ward Twitter, the vanilla steelbook edition will retail for USD 79.
[ source ]

I'm still planning to go for the steelbook version, provided it's a sensible price, but the Prestige thing can get bent.

Also Shin, you're forgetting how well World at War sold despite it being a sub-par rip off of CoD4. That sold bucket loads, and a proper sequel to CoD4 is probably going to do very well. In fact, the biggest wall to sales might end up being Activision's greed and their desire to up the price because they think they can get away with it (which sadly they probably can).

I guess so. I'm more surprised that Halo is so cheap, rather than MW2 so expensive. Halo 3 CE is still on sale for £40 now (Classics edition is only £20) and they're planning the new one for less than that? I suppose their pricing policy is based to some extent on the number of pre-orders they get before they finalise the price, there must just be a lot more people wanting to get hold of this than I first thought.

As for the "limited" editions (Only 200,000 made, get it while it's hot!), you know that they're just going to put a pound sign in front of those prices when it comes out over here right? £80 is a stupid amount to pay for a computer game, especially one that'll be available for £30 in the second hand bins five days later. Even if you had your heart set on the metal tin but wanted to play it on launch day I'd suggest renting it for a week or so then buying the tin when the price has come down to normal levels.

Not being funny mate, but Call of Duty 4 has only just started dropping in price, and is currently going for just under £30, which is only £10 down on retail. Considering that game has now been out for getting on 2 years, I'm pretty sure Modern Warfare 2 is not going to be £30 after five days.

You've obviously never bought a game second hand in Brighton then. I can guarantee you there'll be a second hand copy at GAME, going for £30 by the Friday after release, if not more than one. Not the tin box one certainly but there'll be a copy of the game for that price. I'd also expect the retail price to be in line with every other game after a week, i.e. £40 rather than the £55 currently listed.

I could be wrong but that's the way it's gone with every single game released since I've owned a Playstation, I don't expect to see any changes soon. Does your local GAME let you know if there's a second hand copy in stock when you go to buy a new game? The Brighton store do, even if it's at the other branch so it's very rare I'd ever buy a brand new game as people often take things back oddly early once they've got all the easy achievements and there's often a "Store" copy in there too.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

For really popular games, like CoD4, I've heard it's difficult to come by many used copies, but if you've got someone in your area who buys shit, plays it and returns it quickly then that's good for you I guess. That said, most used copies of recent releases I've ever seen have been just shy of the actual game's price, or in some cases the same thing.

I'm sure that they do say they've got used copies of games, but I don't actually shop in stores all that much, I tend to get most stuff online where I have cheaper prices, online cashback and discount codes.

I agree that the game will probably be going for £40 before too long, but I would fully expect it to stay at that price point for a long, long time. Especially since that's happened with CoD4.

Anyways, I have quite a bit of loyality points built up so I'm not really going to be paying much, if anything for MW2.

Around here, I've seen sealed copies of the CoD4 reprint with the extra maps for £50. Second-hand copies of the regular edition still run around £35. Criminally expensive much? In contrast, I only paid £15 for a second-hand copy of World at War, which has been out for a mere fraction of the time. I dread to imagine how much second-hand copies of MW2 will be...

It's one of the main reasons I've taken to doing all my shopping online, and on the rare occasion I actually buy a newly-released title, I always order it from GAME.

For example, I've never seen ice-climbing implemented in videogames before. The heartbeat monitor has only been used in AvP and Rainbow Six series, as far as I know. Can't recall snowmobile rides in action titles except for NOLF series, too (and you couldn't shoot you way there).

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
