XP reinstall hangs at 34 minutes

So I'm reinstalling XP Home (SP1), and the install is stuck on 34 minutes remaining, the bullet that says "Preparing Installation." It's been on this for about an hour; the odd thing is that the flashing squares on the bottom right are still moving, indicating progress. It says it's "installing devices." It's been a while since I reinstalled XP Home, so I don't remember about how long it took. Any ideas on why this seems to be hanging?

Edit:
I should point out that I can move the on-screen mouse, so it's not like the computer has frozen. Also, I noticed that the drive hadn't been spinning, so I ejected the disc, and sure enough, and nothing changed on the screen. Does this mean I might have a bad drive?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Have your tried doing the installation again? Sometimes it just fucks up for no apparent reason.

Are you using a burned disc? Is the disc clean?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Yeah I've retried the installation a few times... I have two drives, and the same thing happens in each drive. It's a genuine XP disc that came with the system. It hangs at the same spot each time. I'll try cleaning the disc, but aside from that I don't know what else I can try.

Really sucks hardcore too because I'm selling the computer and only reformatted so the buyer would have a clean system. Looks like that plan backfired.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

34 minutes is the point where Setup installs devices. If it hangs, then you've either got a corrupted CD (check the Microsoft KB article), or you've got faulty hardware. I encountered this with a bad laptop video card.

Thanks a lot for those links, Zergrinch. I removed my three PCI cards (audio, video, capture) and the setup went through smoothly. I appreciate your help.

I was speaking idiomatically.
