Ahhh WTF happened to gas prices?
I filled my car with gas a little more than a week ago. The gas price was under $2/gal. for regular. When I went to get gas at the end of last week the price per gallon had jumped 20 cents. Since then it has gone up 4 cents.
This makes me wonder where that hydrogen fuel cell is... So in the mean time, has anyone considered another solution to the rising gas prices; whether it is hybrid, smaller gasoline vehicle, diesel, etc? I personally wouldn't mind owning a VW TDI and have considered buying one. A few months ago I heard something about modifying current gas engines to run on direct injected hydrogen. Has anyone else hear anything about this? Jam it back in, in the dark. "In a somewhat related statement. Hugging fat people is soft and comfy. <3" - Jan "Jesus, Gumby. There's no real rhyme or reason as to why the gas prices fluctuate as they do. Just be thankful you don't have to pay the same as Europe.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
This reminds me of some whacky website I got linked to earlier today.

Just imagine if gas ever got as expensive as milk! I always try to keep in mind that no matter how bad gas prices are, there is always some other practical item that costs more.

I haven't changed my driving habits or car. I drive a full sized SUV and fill up about every 5 days or so. Costs me about $40 per fill up. Have thought about getting a new economic car, but then it would be car payments on top of buying gas.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I'm lucky it's under $2.00. I can't even imagine what the prices would be in the next 20 years, >_<

Besides heaven, of course. FELIPE NO |
Well, it hit a floor of $2.05 around here and has been around there if not ten cents higher.
Merv -- there are some places that are still paying very little for gas. There's a joint in Canada. Can't remember the city x_X But some poster here mentioned when the gas prices boomed that his prices weren't even rattled. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

It could be worse. Some people pay prices like that per litre.

Merv: I live in Oregon and it had been at 1.95-2.02 a gallon 2-3 weeks ago. There's nowhere I can't reach. "In a somewhat related statement. Hugging fat people is soft and comfy. <3" - Jan "Jesus, Gumby. You just...came up with that off the top of your head?" - Alice |
Wah Wah Wah. People whine every time, yet we pay a quarter what the rest of the world pays.
What we NEED is to go back to gas rationing. Taxes won't work because rich people don't care. Limit people to 5 gallons of gas a week and FORCE them to start conserving and carpooling. People are too dumb to care about the future. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
What we need in a solution, not a jackass holding the country hostage with gas ration. Besides I can't get to and from work on 5 gallons a week, I currently use 10 gallons a week in my eco Civic DX and I only live 20 miles from my work. I know people who drive more than twice that to get to work. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? "In a somewhat related statement. Be happy you don't live in Montreal. Gas here is ridiculous. Likewise, I'm happy that I'm not in Europe because gas there is even more expensive than it is here.

You are about 3000 miles from where I am. So what makes your guys prices so much higher there?

In Vancouver, the gas prices change about 5 times each day, at every location, with very little pattern. Theres a segment on a radio channel that tells us where the gas is cheapest in the city.

Where the hell do you live where its under 2 dollars a gallon? Here its at a level 2.30-2.60 a gallon.

I think a lot of the price fluctuations between states has to do with taxes and laws regarding environmental standards. It's annoying that Maryland has higher prices than its neighbors (PA, NJ, NC, VA (outside of DC)).

One reason gas prices are so high is also due to mixes and regulations each state wants to meet. Get a few types of national fuels, eliminate state-to-state mixtures and prices would drop by $0.20 easy. That is a good chunk of the processing, in fact. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

2.45 in LA. Right when i get out of LA, prices start to decrease into the 2.20's. I see a trend.

I've heard that Toyota make's the best hybrids. With one of their newer bybrids able to get up to 60 miles a gallon. Usually a average of 40 mpg. Next time I get a vehicle I'll probably look into that. I was speaking idiomatically. |

There was an article about the Oil Sands in Alberta. There's enough untapped oil there to last all of North America over 50 years. It's estimated that the oil reserves there are 2nd only to Saudi Arabia, and may even be more.
And yet, every day gas gets more expensive. Although, here in Nova Scotia it's $.94 a litre, which isn't TOO bad I guess. FELIPE NO |
