And Alkonost, they alternate between the male and female vocals though.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Arkona has a female vocalist. The band also happens to kick serious ass.
And Alkonost, they alternate between the male and female vocals though.
Thanks. I'll check Arkona and Alkonost right away.

EDIT: Ohh God dammit! I downloaded the Arkona discography to discover that it was another band from Poland or something =( . Oh well, let's try again later...

Okay, this one's a follow-up to my latest band post:

Thanks, downloading (again). I did manage to download that Nevid debut after all, listening to it right now. I couldn't get into Butterfly Temple much but this seems actually better.

For the record, the new Testament is... eh, sounds decent, but I might have to listen to it again, it wasn't overwhelmingly awesome or anything, and that's a bad sign for thrash. :P Still, not too bad, considering the latest outputs by the big thrash names such as Overkill, Exodus, etc. who completely and utterly SUCK.

And that new Moonsorrow EP was pretty badass too. They managed to make For Whom The Bell Tolls sound completely like their own song.

I have a question for those of you familiar with music on a bit of a technical level. Does anyone have any recommendations of metal songs that are in 3/4 time? I'm interested in this because I find it fun to waltz to things of this sort instead of more traditional waltzing songs like classical music and to slow country songs (hooray for living in bumfuck Wyoming). Any picks I should look into?

3/4? Hmmm... Moonspell's Awake comes to mind. (If I even remember correctly - was it in 3/4...?)

Lately I've been listening to Mar De Grises. Anyone heard of them? If so, could you give me some recommendations of similar sounding bands?

I'm quite the Metal newbie. I used to listen to it a lot years and years ago, but stopped after discovering electronic music. Now I'm just starting to get back into it.

Never heard of them, but reviews on M-A compare them vaguely to My Dying Bride and old Anathema, but then, you probably heard those too since they're far less obscure... anyway, you might want to check out their last.fm page too.

I just thought i'd randomly post.

I've been listening to Epica's newest album, and it's fucking amazing. I need to get more of their earlier albums, but this town can't order them, so it's sorta shitty. Looks like Ebay will be my next stop.

IMO "The Phantom Agony" isn't too impressive (but by no means sub-standard) but "Consign to Oblivion" is INSANE.

So Judas Priest, Heaven and Hell, Motorhead and Testament are going to tour together. Who's going? I know I am. This is going to be a legendary tour!

They're hitting Winnipeg, but minus Motörhead and Heaven and Hell.

Mind you, I've already seen all of those bands except Testament.

Opeth's new album has been out a couple of days thus far. Thoughts? I know there are some Opeth-haters in the mist so we can keep that down to a bare minimum thanks.

I think the album is fantastic. It definitely branches off into a more progressive/experimental direction. Mikael sings cleanly more often and more with distorted guitar this time and they make heavy use of the keyboards as well as adding woodwinds. Not sure if they're sampled or live but they are done well. It's not as focused as their previous albums but I find the songs to be quite, not as memorable as previous albums and the playing rock solid.

Also, Origin is touring with Abysmal Dawn. Two great technical brutal death metal bands. I'll definitely be there.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I... I really don't care for the new Opeth album whatsoever.

Maybe it will grow on me.

I got the new Turisas album recently, and, while it's perhaps not as over the top as Battle Metal (which was, like, HOLY SHIT SO MUCH STUFF) it's actually quite an enjoyable album regardless. I'm not sure if it's better or worse, but it's definitely enjoyable.

I heard The Varangian Way has better production value than Battle Metal, which means better sound quality/mixin/stuff. Though it's a great album, I still feel Battle Metal to be a bit closer to my liking.

Yeah, Battle Metal is probably the album I prefer, but there are some very nice moments throughout The Varangian Way as well. The last track is quite ace, I have to say. The riffing seems to be a bit better overall, too. I should re-listen to Battle Metal though.

Any Dethklok fans make it to the show in Vegas last night? They were there with Soylent Green and Chimaira. It was ridiculously awesome. They had videos up on all the screens made for each song, Murmaider and Thunderhorse probably being the best ones. After they played Thunderhorse as their "last song," they came back a few minutes later and did Go Into the Water and Fansong for the encore. Fucking amazing.

So apparently we only get Testament in that whole tour... I can't seem to be able to get over that. It pisses me off too much. The best lineup/tour in the history of everything and no Montreal dates... what in the fucking fuck.

You should feel lucky that you live in an area where you are even remotely near a performing center. The closest I can possibly go to see that show is 5 hours away . Although I think I'll go anyway.

Man, I can't believe I wasn't enjoying IMMORTAL all these years!! Better late than never. I still can't believe I never listened to their stuff before. I mean, I'm not a big black metal fan. Some are good, some I find monotonous. And the thing that puts me off is the bad production, the sound just sounds bad. But man, am I loving Immortal right now. Can you guys recommend similar bands I should listen to?

I think I'm entering a black metal phase right now.
