Sellouts and Reprints

This topic is about issues of comics that sellout and (hopefully) get reprinted. I'll post what sellout and if the issue is getting another printing.

1) What If? Avengers Disassembled Sells Out (from silverbulletcomicbooks.com):

Posted: Thursday, November 16
Posted By: Keith Dallas

This year’s slew of 'What If?' comics looks to the near past and presents a new take on some of the greatest stories to come through Marvel in the past several years. The first offering, 'What If? Avengers Disassembled', gave fans a new ending to that milestone story in Avengers history. The response from fans has been great and the issue has sold out at Diamond. Marvel does not plan on going back to press on What If? Avengers Disassembled, but retailers are advised to check their orders on the other upcoming What If? one-shots, including 'What If? X-Men Age of Apocalypse'.

2) DC Comics Rushes Action Comics #844 Back to Press (from silverbulletcomicbooks.com)

Posted: Thursday, November 16
Posted By: Keith Dallas

After a quick sell out at DC Comics, ACTION COMICS #844 is being rushed back to press for a second printing. This issue features the debut of the new creative team of writers Geoff Johns & Richard Donner and artist Adam Kubert.

"It's been an absolute honor to be a part of ACTION COMICS with Dick, Adam, (colorist) Dave Stewart, (letterer) Rob Leigh, (editor) Matt Idelson and (associate editor) Nachie Castro," says Johns. "I'm incredibly proud of the work we're all doing and thankful for the retailers and readers giving our run on ACTION a go."

ACTION COMICS #844 Second Printing (OCT068020) features a recolored version of the original cover by Adam Kubert, and is scheduled to arrive in stores on December 6.

To ensure delivery on December 6, retailers must place orders by Sunday, November 26. Please note that quantities will be limited and may sell out before November 26.

Also, retailers may order one copy of the ACTION COMICS #844 VARIANT EDITION, featuring a cover by Andy Kubert, for every ten copies of the ACTION COMICS #844 Second Printing (OCT068020) ordered through November 26. The ACTION COMICS #844 VARIANT EDITION now may be ordered under the Diamond item code OCT068021.

3) CIVIL WAR: Choosing Sides Sells Out (from silverbulletcomicbooks.com)

Posted: Tuesday, November 14
Posted By: Keith Dallas

The red-hot one-shot that gave first looks at books like the all-new, all deadly Thunderbolts; Omega Flight; and Iron Fist; as well as providing a glipse at where Ant-Man and even Howard the Duck stand on Civil War has sold out. CIVIL WAR: CHOOSING SIDES featured an all-star creative team and proved to be a smash hit with both retailers and fans alike!

A late addition to the Civil War checklist, CHOOSING SIDES is just one of four new specials designed to enrich the Civil War epic unfolding throughout the Marvel Universe. Given the rapid sell-out of this special, retailers are urged to check their orders on the following upcoming one-shots: CIVIL WAR: WAR CRIMES, in which the Kingpin of crime enters the War; WINTER SOLDIER: WINTER KILLS, which finds the Winter Soldier facing off with both the Young Avengers and his former team mates the Invaders; and IRON MAN/CAPTAIN AMERICA: CASUALTIES OF WAR, where a last ditch effort made by the leaders of Civil War to put an end to the War could lead to making matters far worse!

As Civil War continues to tear apart the Marvel Universe, and with promises of long-reaching ramifications by the stories end, fans are encouraged to strap in for the wild ride the final months will prove to be!

Despite requests from retailers and fans for a second printing, no decision has been made at this time. Although CIVIL WAR: CHOOSING SIDES has sold out at Diamond, there may be some copies available at retailers across the country.

4) Civil War Implications Lead to Black Panther #21 Second Printing (froms silverbulletcomicbooks.com):

Posted: Friday, November 3
Posted By: Keith Dallas

Black Panther and Storm's decision to enter Civil War at the end of Black Panther #21 has sent shockwaves through comic book shops, leading the issue to sell out at Diamond.

Marvel is going back to press with a second printing on Black Panther #21, complete with the fan-favorite Civil War second printing cover treatment. Marvel has also announced that Black Panther #22 will feature the Civil War cover treatments seen on all the CW tie-ins.

"Both retailers and fans alike have demanded this and we're happy to provide a second printing of #21 as well as a Civil War cover treatment for BP #22," says Marvel's Vice President of Sales David Gabriel. "The second printing cover will also sport our now famous CW second print cover treatments. This is great news for fans of the Black Panther and of Civil War! Thanks to all the retailers and fans for continuing the success of this event."

Visiting Namor in Atlantis as a part of their World Tour/Honeymoon, T'Challa and Ororo are persuaded by Namor to take a stand in the escalating Civil War ripping through America. The possibility of Iron Man's plan for a United States overrun by militaristic super heroes cannot be allowed. Civil War is about to get International.

The Royal Couple of Wakanda are now a part of Civil War so don't dare miss Black Panther #21 Second Printing Variant and Black Panther #22.

Immortal Iron Fist #1 Sells Out (from silverbulletcomicbooks.com):

Posted: Tuesday, December 5
Posted By: Keith Dallas

Danny Rand has his own title again, and it’s an unqualified success as Immortal Iron Fist #1 has sold out at Diamond. Currently, Marvel has no plans to go back to press on the scorching hot issue.

The adventures of the Immortal Iron Fist continue as writers Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction, artist David Aja and special guest artist John Severin bring you the next chapter of the Iron Fist legacy in issue #2 after the red-hot reaction Immortal Iron Fist #1 received from fans and critics.

Koben Kelly of Newsarama.com said the Immortal Iron Fist “is set up to become the next huge title for Marvel fans in the coming year.”

Tobey Cook of SilverBulletComicBooks.com gave it a “5 out 5” and said “Brubaker, Fraction and Aja have a real hit on their hands here, and I predict it won’t be long before this is one of Marvel’s top-selling titles. It’s just that good.”

Richard George of IGN.com called the series “fantastic,” “absolutely brilliant” and “the best thing I’ve read this week.”

And there is even more action and intrigue in issue #2 including Danny searching for his legacy, a run-in with Hydra and a visit from his former partner…Luke Cage!

Danny Rand is unraveling the truth behind the Iron Fist, along with the help of a living legend long-thought dead who was once an Iron Fist himself! Unfortunately for Danny, searching for the truth about himself and the legacy of his powers won’t be easy, especially when Hydra has targeted the Rand Corporation.

Catch the next issue of Immortal Iron Fist and see why many are calling this book the break-out book of the year!

Be advised, copies of Immortal Iron Fist #1 may still be available at the retail level.

Print This Item

The biggest and baddest menance to wreck havoc on the Marvel Universe is back and fans couldn’t be happier. Onslaught Reborn #1 has sold out at Diamond, and writer Jeph Loeb is ecstatic with the response the limited series has received thus far. Marvel has no plans at the moment to go back to press on the issue, but it is being considered.

"This is delightful on so many levels. First off, the fans and retailers who believed in Rob and I and a story that is fun and unpredictable -- we THANK YOU! Secondly, to have my first book coming back to Marvel sell out -- and at a very big number too -- is very sweet.”

“And mostly, since a substantial portion of the proceeds from the entire mini-series goes to THE SAM LOEB COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP FUND -- it shows me, once again, that the comic book community CARES. Sam will be gone 18 months to this day -- and I miss him more than anyone can imagine, and we work in the imagination business! But, he'd be smiling, not just for the success, but for Rob too who 10 years later has this kind of good fortune. Onslaught ROCKS! And wait until you see the Joe Mad cover for Issue #2!!!"

Onslaught has returned and his first target: Franklin Richards. After taking on the Fantastic Four, it’s time for the rest of the Marvel Universe to feel his wrath. And Onslaught has no plans of stopping there, either.

Be advised, copies of Onslaught Reborn #1 may still be available at the retail level.

3) Sought After Civil War Tie-Ins Reprinted

Posted: Wednesday, January 10
Posted By: Kevin Noel Olson

Three Civil War one-shots, Civil War: War Crimes, Winter Soldier: Winter Kills, and Iron Man/Captain America; Casualties of War, have all sold out at Diamond. Marvel is going back to press on these quick sellouts, reprinting the one-shots in Civil War: Casualties of War, a comic similar to the Civil War reprint comics Civil War Amazing Spider-Man: Decisions and Civil War Thunderbolts: Swimming With Sharks.

Plus, the much sought after Black Panther’s Civil War tie-in issues have become so red hot that Marvel is releasing Black Panther: War Crimes, a similar reprinting that collects Black Panther #21-23 which have all sold out at Diamond.

Though not originally announced as a part of the larger Civil War event, the one-shots making up Civil War: Casualties of War have proven to be engrossing reads adding increased depth to the crossover, while Black Panther’s Civil War tie-ins have proved to be intriguing chapters of the Civil War story.

Kevin Powers of SilverBulletComicBooks.com called Winter Soldier: Winter Kills “phenomenal” and “one of the most genuine, character driven stories I have read in a while.”

Nick Marino of AvengersForever.org has called Black Panther “a hot topic of discussion” and “a fun comic book with a unique take on Civil War.”

Black Panther still has a large role to play in Civil War as well as a new, high-profile role in the post-Civil War Marvel Universe, so pick up Black Panther: War Crimes for the beginning of large changes in the lives of T’Challa and Ororo and for three important, stand-alone Civil War stories all inside one comic, do not miss Civil War: Casualties of War.

Please note, copies of Civil War: War Crimes, Winter Soldier: Winter Kills, and Iron Man/Captain America; Casualties of War may still be available at the retailer level.
